I'll take one MacTab with a 3G data plan from Verizon please.

While I think this would make a great many people happy, for others it would cause all sorts of consternation. All of us who switched from another cell provider to AT&T to get an iPhone are now going to be asked to open ANOTHER account with a second wireless company that would most likely have new contract terms and termination dates. Ugh!

No one is asking you to open up a new 3G account. Talk about a panic attack.

Bring on the Tablet. I am ready for this. I don't know if it has a 7" or 10" screen, but I likely will have one... Things are really starting to get interesting!

So, since Apple isn't at MacWorld this year, this 'event' is basically taking the place of MacWorld for Apple announcements.

What happened at previous MacWorlds?

1. MacBook Pro upgrades (and PowerBook upgrades before that.) So we really should see an Arrandale upgrade. I *REALLY* hope we get a Clarksfield upgrade option (i.e. at least one quad-core option.)

2. iPhone update news, but not actual releases. So we may see an announcement of what is to be in iPhone OS 4.0, or what the Summer-release iPhone 3GSuperPlusPlus will be. (We don't have 'real' 4G out yet, so we won't see an 'iPhone 4G'.)

3. iLife and iWork updates; although these seem to have moved to a two-year release cycle, so we may not see these this year.

4. Often see iMac and/or Mac mini upgrades about this time. We just saw an iMac update, so the only possibility I see here is replacing the Core 2 Duo models with "Clarkdale" Core i3/i5 models. The Mac mini is due for an upgrade to an Arrandale, though.

5. The surprise. iPhone, MacBook Air, Time Capsule, iPod shuffle, Mac mini, and Safari were all 'surprise' announcements in January.

So don't get all worked up about a Tablet. He could devote nearly the whole show to it (as he did with the iPhone,) but I expect that if it happens, it will be the gotcha at the end.

Then again, with all the pre-launch hype, he might snub his nose, and not release it until one or two weeks later...

first: Arrandale-refreshed MBPs
second: $99 iPhone 3GS, and/or an iPod touch SE with camera
third: The Tablet.

My question is what graphics will be in the new 13" Macbook Pros. Same old same old 9400M, or else something new, like ION2, or else Nvidia or ATI dedicated switchable graphics? But if there's just the terrible Intel integrated graphics, then I may have to keep my old Macbook for some Mac OS X apps and go with a Windows 7 machine.

If something new and good in regard to graphics appears, I may wait for the revamped Macbooks to get them (I'm assuming they won't be revamped at this event).

All Things D claims that Apple's rumored media event will actually take place on Wednesday, January 27th rather than the 26th as originally rumored.Apple is, of course, rumored to be launching a new Tablet that may be called the iSlate.

Article Link: Major New Apple Product on January 27th?

In addition to the date change, Engadget (in the article below) is indicating that App developers have been working with SDKs for the new tablet so that they can make their software fit the screen resolution of the new device (i.e., from iPhone to Tablet-size resolution):

That seems obvious as it would help Apple to have additional software to show off on the new device. But I can't help but envy those folks who are in the know. As the article below indicates, it's a great time to be an App developer:

excuse me, but....
no sh**?
we know they rented out the center already. they only do events for major product launches. So maybe it's gonna be a day later, but all things in this article are pretty much considered fact by now.

But I'm hoping for a tablet mac too. I've been doing a lot more ereading for school via gutenberg.org and by buying books when necessary. I really want a 15 inch macbook, but the 13 inch already feels big for slugging around all day (especially compared to the fancy little netbooks I see popping up around campus). A tablet would fit well with my digital life.

May be, iSlate is subsidized by the publishing and media industry May be, there will be a publisher's clearinghouse type industry group with whom you will have to open a $20 a month account with a 2 year contract to get various newspapers, magazines, tv shows and movies. The delivery will be managed by itunes. Also, Apple may take a 30% cut on other pay per item purchases. ( as per another speculative news source ). May be Apple will share a penny or two of this revenue with the 3G providers too. The subsidies from the publishing industry will go to Apple and the 3G provider. ( Amazon does that with Kindle, they share a bit of the profits with the carrier for the minimal 3G usage ). So while signing up, you may have to pick the publishing industry group and 3G provider combo with Apple in the middle.

Now this is news.... and sure to anger the "full OS X or bust" crowd.

While I would not be surprised if an Apple tablet ran the iPhone OS, there is still the possiblity it runs OS X and uses the simulation software iPhone devs use for testing on a Mac to run iPhone class apps. So they shouldn't get mad just yet.

But knowing Apple, I am pretty sure it would end up being iPhone OS.

Judging by your sig, I'm sure you find these as credible as the "Kenyan birth certificate" that made the rounds a while back. Unfortunately, both are fakes.

Fakes. The "n draft" part gives it away. N is now a standard!

Lol 2 USB ports? No way! Funny fakes.

With all this media hype apple better deliver. Unlike one time when all we got was an expensive boom box and a very expensive leather case

:p

These are useless. Nice that someone used a printer and spent an hour typing these up... but, there is almost 0% chance these are real for what will be released. If this device has a clunky SATA and an optical drive, it will weigh far more than what a 7" is worth. In fact, it will look like a cube you lug around like a tumor.

I find it a little ironic that Apple pulled out of MacWorld because they didn't want to have to plan their release schedule aroudn the MacWorld dates.

Then this year comes around and they are likely to have a big product announcement right around MacWorld time anyway.

:)
