Apple is so behind on AI it's too early for that. Maybe next year, or until Apple shows that it has any AI prowess beyond the black and white donkey kong games decades ago. For now, it's more appropriate for shareholders to pressure Apple on the opposite -- to explain why it has done so little in AI. Maybe some executives need to go.

Can you describe what other companies in this space are doing with ai and how customers are benefiting and exactly where apple is with ai?

Anyone who has used Siri should have no worries of some sentient killer robot coming out of Cupertino's laboratories.
Well, exactly this... Apple is so far behind in this area, it is a humiliation. Also, the first robot emerging from there will trip over its own charging cable because the battery won't get it down the first corridor.

They should have bought Google shares. Siri is not ready, Apple will have to use Google AI like Samsung.
Haha, I’m guessing that was sarcasm. For those that don’t know, Google was embarrassed beyond words and had to publicly apologize cos their Gemini AI is pure dumpster fire and their stock tanked 4%. Google might be all downhill from here because the entire company is infested with these crazy people.

Sure, here is GEMINI's answer. Too bad I couldn't ask Apple to answer your question.

Of course, I could have just used Chrome's "help me write," or ChatGPT, or Perplexity, or Bing, or Notion, or even freakin Grammarly.

Siri? "HERE IS WHAT I FOUND ON THE WEB"!!

And when you reply to the above, I can just use one of these many options to answer. But it's quicker just to do that yourself.

So you don’t really know? You have to ask?

I think you missed the point or were evidently refuted by having a case in point placed in your face and couldn't answer and had to resort to this.

I didn't HAVE TO ask. But I COULD ask many sources OTHER THAN Apple. And I didn't even have to type it out myself.

If you want a real refutation to what I said, if you want to defend Apple on AI, ask ChatGPT or Gemini. You wouldn't get it from Siri.

This is the problem with publicly traded companies. Making a lot of money isn't good enough and only new growth matters. This is what causes companies to do things like layoffs even when they know long term it's a bad idea. They do it because it boosts the quarterly bottom line. The iPhone alone cannot perpetuate growth forever and the shareholders are chomping at the bit to find out what's next. I think we all know at this point the Vision Pro isn't going to be the next iPhone. Apple has thrown literally everything they have at this thing and the real reception has been lukewarm at best. This is even after Apple's hype machine got this on morning shows, local news broadcasts, got Tik Tok influencers wearing it in public, made sure it was consistently in the media and made buying it into an experience where it's offered up on a platter by an Apple cheerleader who's job is to make sure the buyer believes it's amazing.
Apple's talk about AI has certainly lifted their stock price but so far it's all just talk. I believe share holders are having their doubts about what's actually behind the curtain and this is what's driving them to call to see Apple's hand.

Forced growth is why Apple sometimes participates in anti consumer behavior. If Apple can't grow with hardware then you can expect ads, tracking and more. Remember, shareholders are the boss.

“Apple may be quiet on AI, but it’s also the biggest buyer of AI companies.”

The power of silence in a noisy world.
"The power of silence in a noisy world" must be the philosophy on which they built Siri. Let's look forward to it breaking the silence with something useful in the future, maybe...

.

This AI imo is bigger than the Vision Pro.

Vision Pro is like AirPods Max. Niche for the time being. Btw we all called it. Vision Pro wasn’t a hit. It did fine and everyone who wanted one got one.
The product has been available for a month. You have no idea what its future holds nor its applications beyond the home user. Give it a few years and then make a prediction.

Apple has become Oppenheimer now.. it was Einstein not so long ago. Its sad to see their reputation taking such a massive hit as they shifted their focus so strongly towards the bottomline, in fact now it seems its the only thing they care about.
Uh OK. You make it as if Apple used to be some sort of charity company with saints in charge... It has always been about the bottom line! Their reputation has shifted from underdog to bully, I give you that, but that comes with being one of the largest companies in history.

On topic: I'm curious where this request for openness comes from, the timing feels a bit odd. I mean: which Apple AI are they talking about? I haven't seen a thing yet! And what could Apple possibly say? That they are creating an unsafe AI with a disregard for social impact?

You can trust that Apple will so neutered AI to protect against offending anyone that it will be useless except as marketing material.

You can already picture the adverts, some teenager wowed by an eraser tool in photos or auto translate in iMessage and this forum filled with awe and wow posts 😂

If they had anything decent or useful like Circle to Search on Android, I would eat my own iPhone.

Yes they have now become a bully and it's our responsibility to call them out in the loudest voice possible. You seem to be okay with it I feel.

Also Einstein was not a saint, but he insured that his inventions and research was not used for evil purposes. Oppenheimer allowed it to happen and spent the rest of his life regretting what he did.

Megyn Kelly has her own history of public embarrassments around race, but on the opposite side, I would take whatever she says with a grain of bias.

Also, Google stock had tanked last year when they first launched it (it was named Bard back then) it had hallucinated a question about space. They lost around 100 Billion that time, but quickly recovered their value.

It’s coming because investors are chasing the clear AI bubble we’re in. Just like Blockchain, everyone and their mother is slapping “AI” onto their products for a quick stock boost.
