I replaced my 6S battery last January and, since this summer (6 months later) the performance has been dropped dramatically. After a full charge, this morning it have lost 25% of charge in 20 minutes and many times when it has less than 20% the iPhone shuts down. With less than a year, the new battery has worst performance than the original with two years. The iOS battery health indicator is at 92%.
I called Apple service and they told me that the battery is out of guarantee, because the replacements only have 6 months.
My impression is that the replacement batteries they’re using have a very poor quality and they loose performance very soon.

This is interesting. I have a 6s and had the battery replaced for free under the warranty program from a few years ago. It was replaced in July 2017. Oddly, after only 370 cycles, the battery health via the battery app was at 80% and I got an unexpected shutdown.

I took it in last week for the $29 replacement and even the tech thought it was strange it had depleted that quickly. Their diagnostic showed everything else to be functioning fine. The replacement only took about 45 minutes which was nice. I’m curious to see how this one holds up.

I also went to the biggest Apple Premium Reseller in the country (Switch in Belgium) and I made my appointment through Apple's official support app. I had to choose between them (Switch) and the Apple Store in Brussels which is 50 kilometers from where I live but the traffic jam can make this relatively short distance a living hell. Once it took me 2 hours to get to Brussels at the airport. Switch on the other hand is in the range of 20 kilometers from where I live and in 15-20 minutes I am there with very little traffic jam.

Switch also charged me 39 euro for the battery replacement om my iPhone 6s. It took them 1 hour to replace the battery.

aMac sends it to Apple, that's why it took nearly 2 weeks, no problem though, I have a Xs, the one needing the battery replaced is for my girl.

Will they replace 5S battery? SE and 5S are pretty identical. anyone tried? thanks.

That’s the same as saying only Apple can fix your gear at premium prices or you’re at your own. Sounds like a monopoly to me o_O and yet another example of excessive greed.
Yes that’s the reason why they intro the T2 chip on all their new hardwares... Lock down OS and soon will be lock down repair.....:apple:

Make an appointment through Apple Support and use the battery replacement time an opportunity to get some shopping done while you wait.
My wife didn’t see the need in getting her 64GB SE battery replacement until it was done. She definitely noticed the performance improvement

I hate shopping almost more than I hate waiting in line for something. But, I did look into this further. There is an authorized Apple repair place near my home. If I can drop my phone off and get it back the same day from them then I’ll do it.

I’ve definitely noticed my battery life is not what it used to be. My plan was to eventually take it to someone my wife knows who has a business servicing cell phones. He swapped out her battery for free.

I bought a 6s on eBay last year with the intent of getting a new battery under this program. I took it in to the Apple Store a few weeks ago and they said my screen was coming off a little so they couldn't change the battery. I feared my plan had backfired but then they told me they were going to give me a brand new phone for the same $29. Brand new 128GB iPhone 6s for $185 all in sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Yes and no.. did you ask them to fix the screen or just replace the battery? If you asked them to replace the battery, the screen has nothing to do with it. The phone was working right and i wiess the screen wasnt issue until apple said it? It is like a car repairer refuse to fix the broken engine because the bumper was scratched or the side windows was jammed...

I’m guessing the screen was lifting due to a swollen battery, and the 6s may have been one that was covered by and extended service bulletin for those with bad batteries.

I brought both of my sons iPhone 7's in even though they were showing 84%. The rep proceeded to tell me if it was showing under 80% it would not cost me anything but since it was I would be charged $29. He proceeded to process the order and said 'Huh, looks like AppleCare is going to cover it'. In the end they couldn't get the home button to work after the batter replacement (I think on both of them) so they ended up replacing the screen as well. Cost me $0.

Similar thing happened to me.

With a new screen and new battery my phone almost feels the same way as it was in fall 2016.

I’d recommend this for anyone who has 85% or less reported absolutely.

I had the reverse experience. I have a 6S Plus of my own that I brought in for battery change, but they told me it has water damage and wouldn’t do it for me! I haven’t dropped my phone into water but I do live in a horribly humid place, so humid my clothes feel damp and my camera lens grew moldy. Anyway, they said I can replace the phone for about $200!

My X was bought new in Jan and I have 93% is this worth getting the battery replaced? I also have Apple care until Jan 2020

I had the battery on my X replaced a couple of weeks ago. It's a release day unit and the battery capacity dropped to 90%, so I decided to replace it. I have Apple Care+, so I didn't have to pay the $29. The phone was ready in an hour.

I've been fast charging often and drained down a few times so low it turned off so I'm at 92% on my X I bought around release.

Would a replacement battery break seals and not make it waterproof?

88% on wife's X. Plan is to keep it till next announcement. Should we proceed with a replacement?

If you complain about the battery, they’ll oblige rather than argue. Just say something like “the battery discharges too fast below 40%”. If you erase the phone, I don’t think they can verify this. Even if they can, they won’t argue because you are paying for the new battery out of your pocket.

But that’s only until the end of this year. After that the old rules will likely apply which is if it doesn’t fail their tests they won’t do it. Paid or not. Because whatever the issue is, its not likely the battery

I just got mine replaced today at a Nashville-area Apple retailers (not an Apple store, but participating in Apple.com's service locator). They charged me $29.99 - yeah, a little extra but I don't care.

But I do care that when I picked it up they told me there was another $19.99 installation charge.
"The total on that today sir is $54.60."
Me: "Yeah, I was told it was $29 on Apple.com and that's what they said when I dropped it off."
"Oh, well I'll just waive that since s/he forgot to tell you that."
Me: "Good."

They removed the $19.99 + tx and I was on my way, but not impressed. I later double-checked Apple's website and there is NOTHING about an installation fee. Now, an independent reseller may have some room here to add fees, but here's an idea: DISCLOSE THEM UP FRONT. Otherwise, I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth and not inclined to do further business with you.

I’m hoping I don’t have to pay neither as I have AppleCare+ on my X as well. My appointment is on Friday afternoon.

iPhone SE says 85%, iMazing says 70%
Tend to believe iMazing on this, battery is bad, don’t last long.
In any case, glad I saw this. Booked time for replacement on Wednesday.
Who knows when and if Apple release a new small phone

I went to the Apple store in naples FL, after backing up the phone and then deleting the data at home. The verified the phone information and then asked me for return after an hour. Upon return i was told that they found water damage and since there is a risk of battery fire they won’t replace it! I asked them to completely drain the battery and then replace it but they refused. Water damage in my phone is impossible because I have never dropped it in water and since this is an iPhone 7 it is supposed to be water resistant. Naples FL is a rich neighborhood with old folks where Apple make good money. I think Apple is playing cheap. So disappointed!

Interesting, I just set up the "Mail me a Box" Repair on the website, and it said my Estimated Repair cost would be $0.

My iPhone X had a 12/10/18 Shipment date.

Future iPhones, such as the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, will also eventually receive performance management software until apple’s power management improves.

There, I fixed it for you. Remember, androids don’t experience this, so stop drinking apple’s coolaid of “its a limitation of the tech”

Hahahaha! That’s a good one. I’m assuming you’re just joking because no one is THAT... um...uninformed. My Nexus 6p that had catastrophic battery degradation at just over a year of regular but gentle use knows you are joking, too.

Everyone knows Lithium-ion batteries degrade. Degradation is inherent to the batteries.

I had planned to do this in Dec when they announced it earlier this year, but my iPhone 7+ is showing 93% and I don't want to be without the phone for a day or more just for this.

My phone is over 2 years old now and still at 93% is pretty good? Someone above with an iPhone X (much newer) and is already down to 88%. Is is because some people drain their iPhone lower on a daily basis?
Use another program cause what iOS is reporting is incorrect. I have a 6 and iOS reported 86% but it was down to 50% on coconut battery.
