Has anyone looked into Civil Infrastructure Platform's Linux 4.4 kernel? Civil Infrastructure Platform are currently backporting SOME security patches to that kernel and I'm guessing only some security patches get backported, so, VERY LIMITED support. I'm sure the older GPU render method(s) can be upstreamed or semi-upstramed, but security-wise, it wouldn't be a great idea. You'd still have to use older MESA and Xorg or heavily patch both. Security-wise, both methods aren't safe at all.

Also, cross compiling the kernel shouldn't be a difficult task. I've done it before for ARM and ARM64 plenty of times. I compile with Clang and I highly recommend using Clang to build Linux kernels.
