Side note - does anyone not use shaving cream and/or aftershave?

I use neither. Pretty much ever. I shave at a minimum MWF for work purposes, but I just use hot water. I get decent stubble, but just don't care.

The only time I use shaving cream is when I decide to grow out a beard of any length and am shaving it off. I never use aftershave, ever.

I personally have never issues with my 3-6 month old Gillette blades. Another way to not waste money shaving, I guess.

It makes your skin tough. Just like I never use chapstick in a climate where almost everyone does from late fall through winter. My lips are strong!

Try dollar shave club, I have heard good things from friends.

I use a combination of electric Norelco and throw away razors. I've consistently saved with electric for weeks at a time and it works well. Where it does not work as good is on several days of stubble. This is when the throw away razor comes into play.
