The guy definitely needs to have a security detail if he's going to buy that many iPhones in NY! He was an easy target for criminals.

Not the brightest bulb to be walking the streets of crime-ridden NYC after being seen purchasing hundreds of iPhones at 1am. Bet he will never do that again. Maybe from now on just have them shipped to his business like a normal person.
Crime ridden? My dude crime is at absurdly low levels in NYC, the only reason the spike during cov19 and tail after looks so big is that crime has been so low that any increase is a huge percentage jump. I grew up in NYC, remember the early and mid-90s, the current crime rate is crazy low.

And I’d bet $100 right now that this guy was specifically targeted and not a random mugging.

If you can afford those many iPhones, either hire security when you get them or just have them shipped. I am glad the customer isn't seriously injured at least.

Word to the wise, NEVER fight off someone trying to rob you. He is lucky he escaped relatively unharmed. Just give them what they want.

Not such wise advice for all situations....

One reason we're seeing so much crime of this sort is the tendency to tell everyone not to fight back and to just let the people steal or rob from you. Thieves are learning it's easy to take whatever you want from stores or individuals since nobody will even try to stop you.

I agree that your life and health is worth a lot more than some small item(s) they might try to take from you at gun or knife-point. But when the stakes are higher and you believe you have a chance to fight back, I think you absolutely should.

if anyone is familiar with the area, there is no one around that late at night besides police and it is a big open block (the store is across the street from central park, the plaza hotel, etc). only the ultra-rich live in the surrounding buildings and no one else. 100% sure someone tipped these guys off or it is insurance fraud. If it is true, he must have parked pretty far away to have been in any kind of danger.

Ok honestly. I’ve been handling purchases and high technology for a lifetime and for the love of God. The absolute stupidity of someone just waltzing into an Apple Store to buy 300 phones and walk out with them is beyond my comprehension.

I’m shocked the store even agreed to the sale. It’s not exactly a trivial affair. And if it was executed through the business team then they should have had the phones direct shipped to the place of business.

Something about this entire arrangement smells off.

What I want to know is how was he able to carry 300 new iPhones with only having 2 hands. Apple bags are not designed to fit 300 new iPhones. Yes, Apple is all about saving the environment now (shrinking the iPhone) box but still. The Apple store clerk must be squeezing all the iPhones inside the box.

Maybe the Apple store employee told someone that this man just purchased 300 new iPhones. Make the jump?

Why would apple let an individual buy 300 at one ****? No red flags going off? In air can you explain why u need 300 iPhones? Um no? Lol. Deserved it probably
In most circumstances these sorts of transactions do not take place. Apple used to have very strict policies on bulk purchases as they were trying to avoid scalpers shipping devices off to China for sale on the grey market. That and export laws being potentially violated as a result. Something may have changed policy wise at Apple, but I doubt it was for the better.

This is pretty much the same moral that any episode of Unsolved Mysteries (the real ones, with Robert Stack)--DO NOT GO OUT ALONE AFTER DARK.

Probably came with his own bags. A few of those IKEA shopping bags may be enough
You are talking about this IKEA bag carrying 300 iPhones? Really, LOL? Bruhhhhhhhh!

That’s not exactly the most common area to get mugged these days, even at 1am. I’d say there’s a 99% chance this dude was specifically targeted (either that or this is insurance fraud, but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt)
I was thinking insurance fraud as well but this would only apply if he had very “special” coverage and usually on some sort of business policy. This wreaks of organized crime either way.
