I don't think you understand, but Apple strictly sold stock through its online distribution. It never shipped any stock to retail stores like it did with the iPhone. Not even for customer service purposes. I was told that stores will soon have them in stock though.

A. I was only explaining that IF it wasn't in stock he would be able to keep the defective one until they got him a new one.

B. You are incorrect. While they did not ship any for retail sales purposes Apple ALWAYS ships some for replacements. When the iPhone 5 came out there was not a single one in NYC for retail sales but I walked into Grand Central and they gave me a new one when my screen was popping out. I get that you dont believe me. That is fine, however they always get SOME for replacements and if they don't for whatever reason please see point A.

That's incorrect.

Well my store in NY had no replacement stock.

You're wrong buddy.

You're wrong buddy.

After this post I am done explaining. Please note that I said: IF they do not have replacement stock-- they will let you keep the defective one.

Why not read the whole post rather than just skimming for what YOU think is correct?

Apple changed the way they sell new products. What you knew all this time no longer applies apparently :)

Well they didn't let me keep mine. They had to send it in buddy.

I was promised a new replacement even after my return period expired by the store manager as soon as they get them.

We are not talking about iPhones or Retina MacBooks.
Maybe not ALL Apple stores have replacement watches but it has been confirmed that some do.

Well if that is the case, apparently the way it worked for so many years has changed for the worse.

I apologize for the misinformation, chief.

UPDATE 04/25/15

I couldn't see genius... Apple Store was flooding of people since it's in a big mall and I didn't make an appointment.

I'm pretty sure that they will help me replacing it. :D
tho I'm kinda worried about this supply constraint.

I would wait til they are readily available in store (assuming that happens within a year!!). At least that way you wouldn't be without the watch at all.

Case update - April 27 2015

I've been to Apple Store to talk to the genius today. They saw what's on the screen and try to figure out what to do next. Since there're no replacement units in store, my genius tried not to send it in to support center, which in case that I will be without my watch for couple of days. Instead, he made a phone call to an apple care support engineer located in TX, brought my watch to take some pictures of the part that has defect and send those photos to the engineer.

At last, I got a phone call from TX to set up for an express replacement. They put an hold on my credit card and will send me a replacement to my home address with return box. The replacement watch is heading on the way, will arrive in between this Weds - Thu. :D

I like seeing how quickly all this worked out for the OP. I shipped my defective watch to Apple yesterday. Hoping I have my replacement by Friday or Saturday the latest.

For the record I live in the Los Angeles area and not a single store in this area had watches in store for warranty replacements. I was told by every store I talked to that they were sending all watches out to the repair depot so Apple could "capture" them to track defects.

I think that May be a feature....

So I just found my watch has a small bulge on AMOLED screen.
It seems like internal parts has poked the panel away from the inside. :roll eyes:
There's no problem on screen operation, but it just bothers me.

I'm going to visit apple store near my home to surprise a genius.

Case update - April 29 2015

Replacement Watch has shipped by FedEx today. It will arrive tomorrow. :D
They shipped Watch Face only.

That's weird - mine's being replaced due to restarting and the red ! coming up - they're sending out a whole new box, including straps and whatnot.

I'm actually quite worried they have got enough bowls of water down on the floor so that the guide dogs of Apple's quality control inspectors don't get thirsty during the day!

How did that get through QA. It begs the question what short cuts they are taking to get supply out to customers.

I sorta doubt that. Apple is handling replacements of these items with a face only boxed replacement. Rick on Metagamers on YouTube shows a video of him opening his replacement watch due to screen separating issues. Check out the video for a understanding on what that looks like.

However; yours may be a one off... Just find that interesting they would waste a whole new kit on a defect watch when it's just the face/body that needs replacing.

Why does nobody here believe anything. Not that I should have to:

Currently there's a 3 week wait for the replacement, this *might* bump up, but isn't guaranteed. Apparently replacements are being shipped before regular orders. I assume they do it because people who have only had a product for 2 days shouldn't have *bits* of it replaced, meaning that serial numbers don't match and what have you.

They're letting me keep the old watch until the new one is shipped. It works, but reboots itself every couple of hours.

Really sucks that they didn't think to keep some back for those of us who received DOA ones.

It's out of the norm, that's why. Plus there is a helluva lot of misunderstandings and misinformed individuals here. So take no offense when there is more than normal reservations with info in this place.

That happened fast! Did you have applecare with the original watch order?

Yes I have. I've purchased AppleCare+ with it.

----------

It seems like they've had replacement unit at AppleCare Center.
The replacement one has manufactured just a week after my defected one.

Do you have AppleCare+ with it?
In my case, they could go with Express Replacement, covered by AppleCare+
The replacement unit has shipped right away, and arrived within 3 days from the day I visited Genius Bar.

The replacement watch has arrived. A Watch face only packaging is very interesting. And of course, all your data is backed up automatically and easily restorable onto your new watch. :D

Case update - April 30, 2015

So, my replacement unit has no problem on screen but a side button at this time.
Side button wiggles and rattles, Digital Crown is less smooth as previous one.
I called Apple Support and they set a new Express Replacement.

Oh btw, Apple Support rep said that the replacement units will be available in stock at Apple Store as early as May 18th.

My fiancee's 38mm SG sport had a chip on the screen. After some back and forth with customer service, we finally got a manager to ship a replacement out. That's out for delivery today. We dropped the bad one off at FedEx last night.

I hope the replacement is a full watch. No one told us anything about just sending back the face.
