I placed an order for the watch series 3 without any hiccups! Hopefully I’ll get by the 22nd. I hope it doesn’t get delayed :/

I am planning to purchase the iPhone X (Just ordered the Nike+ Space Gray w/o LTE last night) but I will say that if either of these don't meet my expectations I will have zero remorse in just returning them and get my money back. I think the watch will be great because I am going from series 0 to this one so the speed improvement should be substantial. The iPhone X concerns me with a few things (reachability for control center & notification center, How well FaceID works, If that protrusion at the top of the screen is annoying enough, and how annoying the software workarounds are for landscape apps/images, etc).

Why are people saying the 8/Plus won't sell because "It's basically the 7/Plus with a few minor updates" ...

Wasn't the 6s "Just the 6/Plus with a few minor updates"
Wasn't the 7 "Just the 6s/Plus with a few minor updates"

In reality, it has many updates... don't judge just because they aren't ones you can physically see....
All the other phones you mention were flagship products, promoted as such and allowed to shine as the best that Apple could make, and the best iPhones you could buy.

The 8 line is none of that; aside from the not inconsiderable fact that it looks just like an iPhone 6 from 2014 and is a tired design in its own right, it's been launched right alongside the X which is very clearly what the iPhone should be in 2017, the best Apple can make and the best iPhone you can buy. And it makes the 8 look thoroughly second best; a forgettable also ran. Why buy that?

I think they made a mistake in their product metrics. The 8 should have the same design as the X but without OLED and maybe missing some other features like the dual cameras. In that way this would be a super upgrade cycle and people would see the value in the new 8.

Of course. I look forward to them stopping selling all iPhones except the X, all iPads except the 12.9 pro, all iMacs and MacBooks except the top spec.

Perhaps get car manufacturers to only sell the top of the range models too?

"Now we have an iPhone at all price points, as long as its 999 and 1149"

Because it's a phone with new technology, great specs and a proven technology that works (Touch ID). And also, at the end of the day, it's a phone.

Huge benefit for you going from a 6 to even a regular 8 if you are a photo junkie in particular.

- 3 generation newer cpu/gpu (faster!)
- more storage (bigger!)
- HEIF (better quality, better compression)
- hardware OIS (better!)
- better flash with slow sync (in a pinch)
- double system memory (2GB vs 1GB) = better overall performance

This is how I feel. I'm on a 6. I was going to upgrade. Maybe even to a plus. The size still bothers me. I'm a small human so small hands, BUT I'm a photo junkie. Always taking photos and videos, cataloguing for family... love it! Incredible to believe how amazing smartphone cameras are these days.

64GB is probably too small. 128 GB for the 8+ would be perfect, but they only have 256. So that's $1200 CDN. Then I see the X is $1300. So maybe that's an option.

Then I realize that's almost the same cost as a Macbook! Gulp!

So for now, the parachute has been pulled on upgrading. I simply don't see the value.

Not even 'wowness' to compel a change (for me). Not judging others if they upgrade.

Cheers,
Brian

Bzzzzz.... take me to your leader.... bzzzz....

On a more serious note. My 6+ experience these days is basically this - load... refresh... load... refresh... load... refresh. One more gig of RAM and I would have been fine for another year. So, just get the X right? Sexiest unibrow in the galaxy, faster than the speed of light and will keep record of every little imperfection on my face. Except... it's not a + model. It's just the 4.7" in a sweet sweet disguise. Sorry, but I like having -useable- screen real estate and I'm used to carrying my iSurfboard anyway. The 8+ may not win me any dates with the ladies, nor have people turn their heads when I walk down the street going "oh, look at that cool guy!", but it's going to get the job done just as fast with a bigger usable screen and for less even. I'm going to miss the animoji feature though. That fox animoji really speaks to my inner closet furry... oh, bummer. I guess I am from another planet after all.

Good one :D

I'm a 6 plus launch day owner as well. I kinda got the X bug over the weekend but still not in love.

I didn't even bother looking at the 6S,7 or 8 as my 6 plus does everything I need.

You are a what?

Not surprising. I ordered a 64GB 4K Apple TV and a series 3 non-cellular watch for the wife at 3:02 eastern time, without a hiccup. The next month and a half of waiting for the X already feels like an eternity!

Ordered 64GB 4K TV at 8 am pacific.... arrival date is October 6!!

What I can use this as a phone (says someone who hates talking on the phone LOL). It is my mini iPad LOL oh and yeah I can talk if I want to LOL

It’s 2:00pm over where I live. I can still order any iPhone 8 I want and have it delivered by next Friday.

Seems like the watch was the most popular of the items launched today.

That couple hundred of dollars is quite psychologically significant in other currencies (I'm thinking CDN ). Its a lot of money for a phone - even if you do get better components. If the X is the size of a '8', then its a great size! Still, compare the cost of the '8' to X, and I'm thinking value of money, the extra cost etc - is it really worthwhile to be on the bleeding edge of an iPhone?

The difference in price between the 8 and the X is only a couple hundred dollars. For that you get a better camera, better screen, a larger screen but in a smaller package (the X is about the size of the 8 but offers a screen larger than the 8 Plus), and more.

We need to remember that the complainers here make up only a small portion of the total buyers. Most of those happy to buy the X aren't as actively voicing their opinions online. As always, MacRumors is more complainers than anything else sadly. Never anything good to say. Always nothing but bad news and complaint.

I have a 6 Plus and I'm not sure what I want. The 8 isn't a big enough upgrade simply because of the X. But the X is so pricey. I might just wait it out.

Not surprising - Apple shot themselves in the foot this year.

Who wants an 8 that looks identical to a 7? The odd person that appreciates 4k at 60p? Everyone else will appreciate the price drop in 7 more or go the full hog and cough up 1k for the X...
This is such a narrow view. Even with the lesser sales, the phone will still sell in massive numbers. There are people (like me) who are due for an upgrade after 6 and 6s. For them 8 is a massive improvement. And I have absolutely no issues with the looks. At this point all phones are subtle variations on rectangles. I could have considered x if the price differential was not this large. Just not worth paying money for simply removing bezels.

You are right. When I moved to S8, for a few weeks, I had a buyer's remorse. But now I don't feel anything. In fact I am pretty amazed sometimes when I look at the screen.

With the bezel less design, it's now hard to differentiate iPhone and Galaxy. Of course besides the notch. So I don't know how much cool factor Apple is holding now or will be holding when all the phones looks almost same.

That's why they kept the notch.
