More than 400 posts on this topic. Unbelievable!

The unbelievable thing is that on many post there are just people trying to downplay :apple:Pay just because it's an Apple service.
Their presence on a forum like this always have been puzzled me.

Haven't you noticed the US is WAY behind the rest of the world in pretty much every thing? High speed internet, these types of pay options infrastructure ect. We think we're the top poo but we aren't. All the bravado is simply our huge egos talking.

I'm an European guy traveling a lot worldwide for work, and believe me: you aren't behind.

Just like how Apple revolutionized mapping software with Apple Maps. And how they revolutionized social music interaction with Ping...

You are right. Apple doesn't always succeed in its plans, and ping is a good example. But most of the time they actually succeed.
Apple maps isn't the best device out there, but it's used on a daily basis by millions and millions (literally) of users. So much for a failure...

Poor battery life, LMFAO. You must be one of those that actually buys into the stupid Samsung commercials. Lets see last weekend I forgot my charger on a trip and got 2 heavy useage full days out of my 6 plus and still had 13% of the battery left late on the second day. These 2 days also included 7 hours of BT audio streaming while in travel.

I've had what I would call a medium but steady usage day today. Lets see where Im at approaching 7pm.... 67%... horrible.

Who speaks about poor battery life for an iPhone 6 is clearly just trolling the forum....

... as usual.
Every time Apple introduces something "new", Android lovers storm the forum screaming "we already have it since 1218!". But reality is that what they have on their droid barely is a gimmick, while Apple will push the new service with all their power. Apple isn't always successful in their attempts, for sure, but surely they have a significant impact on the market.

----------

Nobody use it could be an exaggeration, indeed, but the diffusion of Google wallet is very very limited considering the time it has been available...
Actually there are more words on the net about the yet to be started :apple:Pay than the two years old Google wallet. Enough said.

I could be wrong - but Apple also has a tendency to wait and create a plan to not only enter the market, but control it as much as possible in its favor. Not a bad or wrong strategy - just different. Google often introduces things as experiments or to have it adopted "freely" vs an orchestrated dealmaking process.

The upside, and I might be wrong on this - is that if Apple Pay takes off, it will only benefit google pay for those that use it as more places will have the NFC capabilities needed.

I had been using it for a while. with my old nexus 4 and currently with Moto X. It works in places that I shop at. I have yet to see apple pay in action - oh wait it doesn't exist yet. Whole Foods is one of the stores on the list of apple pay, I already use my google wallet to pay for stuff there but have yet to see any apple users use their iphones to pay for it because its not available yet.

Android lovers (users) already had it and used it for over a year and apple lovers are still talking about how its going to make an impact when it actually comes out.

huh?

I'm not sure about the nomenclature...

I know I need a new credit card terminal (the device that sits on our desk). At this time, with my processor, to use the only NFC terminal they offer they charge a greater monthly fee to process the transactions. This is the case even if I don't use the NFC feature. I *think* they are trying to bundle in more services (digital signature capture, recurring payments), but still trying to get to the bottom of it.

It *feels* like a money grab opportunity to up-sell from my current processing company. Why? Because they only have one terminal that supports NFC and it comes with lots of other bundled services. I'm hoping things will come more inline next year if this takes off and NFC becomes more prevalent. For starters, they should be offering more machines that read NFC.

I have shopped around for other processing companies, but the fees were higher than my current processing company based on our volumes.

A few other items -

- I did the majority of the research on NFC prior to Apple Pay. Primarily due to the Oct 2015 deadline. At that time I was thinking I'll just get the chip card reading machine and be done with it so I don't have to worry about next year.

- After the Apple announcement, I called them back and they confirmed Apple Pay would be the same as my earlier NFC research. With NFC only available at a higher monthly price through them.

- With the updated info, I'll just hold off until closer to the Oct 2015 deadline and hope something changes. I'm guessing there will be more inexpensive Swipe/Chip/NFC desktop terminals at different price points. Its funny that with the 2015 deadline, there are still lots of swipe only card readers that are available and being promoted.

The industry runs slow... I'm sure because us retailers don't like spending money upgrading. We also don't want to get burned buying something that will need to be replaced in a year or two if we can avoid it...

Right now, I'll spend my $$ on a iPhone 6 and wait on the Apple Pay support for our business for 6 months.
Have you thought about a complete POS solution rather than a cash register? At least with those, most upgrades are just done with USB add ons. Want a chip reader? Well a USB PIN pad, such as the Ingenico IPP350 has both EMV and NFC built in.

Also customers really do appreciate being able to slide/tap/insert the cards themselves as the card doesn't leave their hand.

----------

I've noticed quite a few stores that are set up for NFC payment in the last few weeks. Once companies see the popularity and security of NFC payment many more will be on board. Don't expect the vendors with one store to adapt

There is an app called MasterCard Nearby and I've noticed a lot more stores popping up with contactless recently. It's a useful app to find out where you can pay with ApplePay

Everything Apple does is for their profit, for sure.
But quite often it also takes in consideration user's satisfaction, which is fine for me.
A worldwide adoption of :apple: Pay would be a good thing for Apple users and not an harm to others, so I don't understand all the naysayers on this thread.
But from years of participation here, I've leaned there are people here that just want Apple to fail, no matter what.

Congrats for being one of the few people using Google wallet out there...

Hardly unexpected on this forum.

Android and Apple users should just be excited that more vendors will take NFC payments regardless of who did it first, better or last. Who cares. As long as you can pay for things with the phone you have where you want to pay for them.

Dear Apple

Just roll it out in the UK, we are ready. We have the NFC terminals. Bring it. Let the US see what they are missing. Let them see how its done. Make them feel inadequate. They don't like that feeling. It'll make them rush to implement it quicker.

And yet we here in Canada have had chip and pin and NFC payment technology for years, as has Europe, and this has not made the Yanks jealous enough to catch up. Don't even get me started on Metric vs (the medieval) Imperial system.

We too are very ready for ApplePay.

You want retailers to sign on,simply give the terminals for free. Sure bill them same surcharges but at least provide terminals and or support training. But of course not because that would eat into apple profits as always apple profits always come first.

No special training to take Pay. If they take NFC, they can take Pay.

totally irrelevant, but I love the quote in your signature. :)

Pointless for the matter discussed on this thread.
Small dogs will just come later, as usual...

I disagree. I am more interested in the level of service than the method of payment accepted by a merchant. Plastic, check, cash, who cares as long as the product or service is satisfactory?

iOS is not exactly the big dog in mobile operating systems. Many of us prefer it to the big dog.

I do care about payment method. Definitely.
I would pay even more for a more secure and comfortable payment method.

It will never take off.

Non-sensicle crap, Apple need to focus on the core company and services before dipping hands into other business.

Mavericks? Disgrace until 10.9.4 & still buggy.
iOS 7? GUI disgrace.
iOS 8? Lol.
iPhone 6? Not an Apple product.

Actually iOS is the big dog, because it's revenues and not market share that counts.
Btw being an Apple user since 1989 I couldn't care less about being the big dog. I just want the user experience Apple is mostly providing too me in the last 25+ years. Leave the numbers to Samsung, selling millions of crappy cheap phones (and a very few good ones).

I'm with you in the matter, but you know, haters gonna hate.

I'm a long time Apple user too. Just not getting my bowels in an uproar about a service not yet available. I've lived without Apple Pay for a few years. I can wait until or whatever. Just not a biggie for me.

The shareholder in me appreciates your support!

This is all about making the iPhone more indispensable while also causing a hassle for anyone switching to Android.

Really it's not. This article is misleading. Apple pay/Android NFC/NFC credit cards, they're all the same.

Where you're being misled is thinking one payment trumps the other. If you accept one, you accept them all because it's all Near field communication (NFC)

I believe the problem is that they don't want to install POS that are only Apple compliant. They want to support multiple platforms and Apple Pay is closed.

No, it's not. :apple: Pay uses an EMV standard. It uses existing NFC payment terminals, and existing payment processing networks. The difference is on the backend at the issuing bank.

They work if you have used it in an ATM, believe it or not most ATMs use the magnetic strip to allow it to know to pull the card in or not. Try putting your card in the wrong way just to see for yourself. ATMs still rely on the strip for this one purpose even though it will still use the chip for the rest of the transaction

That is a great tip - if it actually reads the magnet strip that is, and not just uses it to check the orientation of the card.

I rarely use cash these days, but I will surely try it out :)

What happens if you decide to take a vacation outside a major city, your car needs gas, and the only gas station around only takes plastic?

Are you going to buy gas, or will you sit in your car and play with your iPhone until the gas station decides to get a NFC terminal? :D

Okay ... Well, now you're just getting ~crazy~. :D:D

No you can't use apple pay (or any form of nfc payment) unless the store has nfc terminals

I understand that.. ok let me explain it better. Can i use my iPhone 6 anywhere that accepts NFC payments? or do they also need to accept Apple pay. I am not sure what the difference is from apple pay and NFC

There is no difference as far as I know...if there is nfc there is apple pay
