Still lots of rendering artefacts in the hybrid roads. I would post some screenshots except Safari keeps crashing whenever I do.

Standard maps are starting to look absolutely beautiful, but Apple still clearly needs to tweak the label density.

Wow, it's really improving. Great to see (although it was inevitable).

Here's a question...is the updating of maps going to be integrated into the maps app after iOS6 is released, or only when the OS is updated?

Umm... given the results above i think the answer is both.
Map data will be a continuously updated and come live as it's processed.
The jump between Beta 1 and 2 even on the same day would also suggest that much improvement can come directly from the the on-device rendering engine. Code improvements to the engine are only going to be in iOS or Map.app updates.

I wonder if after release the Map.app will be a separate update instead of bundled with the OS from now on?

According to the Beta 2 release notes, earlier versions of iOS will still have Google Maps so it's probably still going to be a built-in app. If it's separate then it'll only be for iOS 6. I know that doesn't exactly answer your question but it's a bit more information :)

It appears to my untrained eye as if the beta 2 Apple Maps have made it so that the street/places names are visible from a wider zoom, as opposed to having to zoom in to find out the street name. Can anyone with iOS 6 say if this a valid statement?

Wow, these maps are shaping up to be looking extremely sexy! I'm sure that by the time Apple finishes this, we will have something beautiful to look at. Loving the look and feel of it already, and it's only going to get better from here on out. Apple once again is going to redefine the mapping experience!

Yes, check the screen shots above.

Yes I did. He asked a yes or no question. I responded with a yes....

I was also trolling.

Fair enough of you was trolling but you still didn't answer his question. He asked about flyover, you replied about 3D.

All terrain worldwide is 3D, but not everywhere has flyover.

Yes.

Contrary to several posts in this thread this does not appear to have added any additional data, which remains very poor. Just slightly more of the existing data is visable without having to zoom in.

It seems like London Underground stations have been added. No matter how much I zoomed in I couldn't get them to show up in 6b1, now they're always there.

I'm liking all these changes. Sounds promising and the maps definitely are looking very nice.

lol @ people using Beta 1 were complaining about how "this is how Maps is going to be! You only beta test final code!"

Of course they're going to improve it! :D

There are definitely POIs (stations, underground) and names of geographical areas that have been added to the maps since launch. Some of these started appearing in beta 1 maps so must be being added when they are ready.

The updated maps application in beta 2 is clearly displaying more info at a wider zoom level (as well as the new POIs that have been added). One way streets now have a small arrow too.

More significantly (I think) you can now distinguish between major and minor roads much more easily using their thickness on the map although this still isn't nearly as easy as google maps.

I still want to see some colour coding of roads (but I don't think we'l get it) and blue motorways in the UK. Plus blue motorway signs when using turn by turn and roundabout graphics that use them correctly in the UK!

Very happy to see that they are starting to populate NYC with traffic direction arrows...very useful when taking a taxi to the lower east side.
