As a GW Alum I am L-I-V-I-D. Best record in the country, ranked #6 and all we get is a stinking 8 seed and basically a road game. Plus, if we survive that we get Duke in another road game. Disgraceful job by the tourney committee.
I love my A-10 brethren, but they got what they deserved. I thought maybe a 6 seed, but 8 isn't unreasonable. How about playing a non-conference schedule that isn't one of the fifteen worst in the country?

All right, everyone, get your prognosticating hats on because the time has come for the 2006 MacRumors NCAA Tournament Challenge.

First, you'll need a Yahoo! ID to sign up. Once you have one of those, you should be able to go here:

http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/men and sign up to participate in the You Pick 'Em game.

The Group is MacRumors NCAA Challenge

The password is "n0pbg5", with a zero, not an "oh".

Now I f'd up and got my picks listed as "MacRumors NCAA Tournament" because I didn't know what the hell I was doing. The rest of you should probably set your pick name as your MR user name or something so we can more easily track it. Mine will be easy to see since it will be at the bottom.

If anyone has trouble, post or PM and I'll try to fix these instructions. Good luck to everyone! Don't forget to have your picks completed by tournament time (the play-in game doesn't count).

Thanks for setting up, emw! Have fun in Hawaii!

GO UCONN!!!

Now that I have an avatar for this year, I've updated it for the tournament to Jim Calhoun cutting down the nets! Just like he'll be doing this year! :D

Seedings

Ok, so the seedings sucked. Pitt was #15 in one poll, #16 in another, then beat, on consecutive nights, Louisville, West Virginia, and Villanova, before finally falling to a red-hot Syracuse team on some questionable officiating at the end of the game. How's that translate to a #5 seed where your 2nd-round game is against Kansas? GW *really* got screwed though. I don't care who you play, it's tough to go through a whole season with only two losses. Granted, they didn't deserve a 1-4 seed, but a #5-6 would've been fair. Syracuse, yes they've had an amazing run through the Big East tournament, but a #5 seed is very generous. Especially when Georgetown (#7 seed), Marquette (#7 seed), and West Virginia (#6 seed), all of which are clearly better teams in the Big East, are ranked lower. Tennessee, losers of 4 of their last 6, get a #2 seed? Air Force gets in but Cincy is out? FOUR teams from the Missouri Valley?

There are alot of people who are going to think BC got screwed by being a #4 seed. I would've said a #5 seed would be more appropriate. This is a team that lost to Maryland, Georgia Tech, by 18 at home to NC State (granted they did later beat NC State on the road), by 14 to Virginia, and just squeaked by VA Tech. Fortunately for them, their second-rounder is against Nevada (if Nevada wins), which also got a gift #5. How Nevada got a #5 but GW got a #8 is beyond me.

There's going to be alot of upsets in the second round. This is one year when the seedings seem to have little resemblance to the strength of the teams, especially 3/4/5/6 seeds. As usual, Duke was gifted with the easiest bracket, so they'll probably win their bracket. But they won't make it past the semi's.

Toughest bracket? I'd say Oakland. #1-5 = Memphis, UCLA, Gonzaga, Kansas, Pitt. Wow.

All I'm saying is I can't wait for the Memphis v Duke rematch in the final four, but with Memphis coming out as the winner. Go Tigers (LSU, too, but not as much)!

All I have to say is...

YAY for my tiny school (Bradley University) actually making it!!!!

That itself makes me proud.

Being from the Peoria area originally (Pekin), I was happy to see this as well. My parents are still there, so they were excited as well.

I hope they do well - although Kansas has come on strong lately, and they'll remember last year's Bucknell fiasco...

I hope we see that. Memphis has to get by both Kansas and UCLA on the way, and Duke could be surprised by an Iowa or Texas en route. It should be another good tournament.

As the reigning champion, I walk the stage wearing my tiarra one last month, only a miracle could allow me to repeat.

While I reflect back on my reign as Champion I would like to thank those that were so bad at choosing winners that even I could win it all. I would like to thank the ever so graceful in losing, emw, for his outstanding avatar work.

Yes I strut the stage with my champion avatar, with sound and fury, signifying nothing but WINNER!

GO HEELS KICK BUTT!!!!!

To everyone participating in the Yahoo! Tournament (currently 9, which is a little disappointing, I must say), remember that picks must be submitted by Thursday at 9:10am EST!

Make 'em good (but not so good that you beat me ;))

Man I am really iffy about my bracket. Hopefully everything falls into place.
I threw one together just to have something, since this is a hectic week. Not sure I like it yet, I'll have to look at it again tomorrow.

Yep...my entry is in. For now. I might change it later. Then again, I might not. The suspense is killing me.

I just signed up, so make that 10, but I haven't entered anything, yet. This one could have some surprises in it. This year, we gotta try and keep emw from flying off, while helping stubeeef to land. :D

Edit: I note only 1 out of 6 SI Writers have picked Memphis to make it to the final four. I'll be happy to differ with Sports Illustrated, because I think Memphis will find a way to handle Kansas, and I think (read: hope Gonzaga has its game on and) UCLA will get upset, early on.

Monmouth Wins the playin game, and my wolfpack are on the front page of espn
I have them over California, 1st round, but they're going to need some help from above against Texas. Maybe the spirit of Valvano will show up.
