Do we really need a million inches of wasted space on the top and bottom of these renderings? It is making the phone needlessly tall. One can only hope that Apple has more common sense than these incessant rendering people.

A big company like Apple doesn't take a dump without a plan. If Apple is doing it, then they must be pretty confident that people want bigger screen phones and that they will sell a lot of them. And that confidence isn't just a guess, they research. Some of that research doesn't always serve well (iPhone 5C), but Apple has been more successful than not in figuring out what people want (or at least what they will buy).

Yes - as you can see in my post you quoted I state I think there are enough who want larger screens and that Apple sees this and will/should act to offer more choices.

The 5C was the second best selling phone in the US last quarter - it outsold the GS4. By no means is the 5C a failure - though people were expecting it to be the low cost version. That's what happens when people take their own assumptions and opinions and tout them as fact before Apple announces anything.

Can't you download a camera app that has a timer?

He could, but why is such a basic feature not included in the stock camera app? Is it that hard for a big company like Apple to add this?

Where's the wasted space and how is it any different from the current iPhone? That's where the camera, headset and home button are.

I'd be fine with asymmetrical top and bottom if it meant the smallest overall device with a 4.7". I don't want them to get rid of the home button so there's clearly more space they can take away from the top than the bottom.

Yea I agree. By the looks of this though, the 4,7" phone will be bigger than the 4".

I have an eight year old daughter. The iPhone 5 is allready big for her tiny pockets. Apple needs to atleast have one phone model to accomodate kids imo.
You're letting an 8yr old carry an ip5 around on her own...Wow. hope u have damage insurance when it's dropped or theft insurance when it's stolen..

They could change the shape/size of the home button to save space and they could move the front facing camera to the right of the speak to save more space. I personally believe they could push the screen even further left/right so it isn't as wide as in these renderings as well.

Just because they can, doesn't mean they will.

I would love to have the 5.5 inch model. 4.7 is still to small. Not much bigger than the current 5s model.

True.

I figured it out and to fit a 4.7" display, they really wouldn't have to bulk the phone up at all. Cut half off the bezels on the sides and trim the top and bottom down a few mm and you'll have a 4.7" display in a device that's only a few mm taller and wider.

I hope they don't change the size or shape of the home button. It's perfect for TouchID. And I'm sure they know that.

That's the Apple Factor in play. By normal standards, the 5C was a success. But by Apple standards, it was a failure, mainly because, as you said, the price.

Some random poster on a rumors forum doesn't need to give a fellow poster parenting advice....let him do what he wants. Its his kid, not yours.

In this context, it's more of Apple doesn't need to be concerned about 8 year old market than parental advice.

1080 screen resolution is enough for me, but I need 2gb RAM and 32gb base storage. With 2gb RAM, there will be far less reloading between apps, and with the current media size and the camera potentially supporting 4k recording, 16gb base storage size is too little for a premium model.

Wait - how was it a failure by Apple standards?

The only way it could be construed a failure at Apple would be if it sold less (or as much) as the 4S did in the year-before quarter.

The 5C was created to boost sales of the secondary device - it was never supposed to come anywhere near the 5S. Apple knew that. It was simply supposed to be a better/easier sell than the year old 5 would've been.

I think it accomplished that task.

Where is your evidence that people want larger iPhones? The majority of the news I read shows that people that want larger iPhones are in the minority.

Yet again, in denial. Where is this "news" you read? Your "news" isn't evidence or factual.

I don't think the 5C would come in the colors it does it Apple didn't have some eye for the "younger" cohort.

Though I don't see anything released this year as geared toward younger consumers. The 5C and 5S will still exist as the 4" offerings.

I agree with all of your specs - would love to see 2 GB RAM (even though I don't think we need it - I would probably not upgrade as often) and DEFINITELY want to see 32GB base storage option. I have a hard time with games and apps being as large as they are now. 16GB just doesn't cut it anymore.

Heck, with the iPad I plan on going with a 128GB next time. I just do too much on these devices to skimp on storage space and have to delete stuff. Its great that stuff is stored in the cloud, but things like apps and games can't be and there are times where I need media saved to my device - say when I'm traveling.

Apple, please release 3,5 inch phone. I am still on my 4s and do not want any bigger one - this one is perfect. Job's knew what he was doing.

Bud, I hate to break it to you - but you might as well try it out. The 3.5" iPhone is gone - after this year there won't be any left.

The 5/5C/5S is not really that much bigger. Get one and use it - you'll wonder how you ever thought that squatty 3.5" screen was ever good enough.

I came from a 4.5" device to a 5s. I'm glad I'll have a choice to get back to that approximate size again. I know a couple people with 5+" Samsung phones, pretty sure that's too big for what I want, but its nice to have options.

IMO, 4.7" is the perfect size for a smartphone. The 5.5" phones around today are unwieldy and difficult to use with one hand.

Not long ago 3.5" was the perfect smartphone. Then it was 4". Anything larger was unwieldy and difficult to use with one hand.

Now, apparently if Apple makes it, 4.7" is the perfect size for a smartphone. Gotta love it...

Michael

I am still not convinced that Apple will release a 5.5" phone. I can't see them releasing a 4.7" whilst announcing a bigger phone three months down the line. It could kill sales for the 4.7".
Personally I will get the 4.7" when it's released but if a 5.5" does turn up shortly afterwards I would take a close look at it

Maybe because no-one is interested in this feature. I have never needed that function and this is the first time I have heard of anyone else needing it.

Apple surely does analyses on the app store, specifically analysing large volume apps with interesting features. That's what I would do. It is the best environment to find out what the customer wants.

If the iPhone was going in production in July, could it go on sale before September?

Only if the goal is to sell it directly from the factory parking lot in small batches.

It takes time to produce sufficient quantities and to distribute these to all sales points.

I have gnote 2, and while its size is not bad at all, it IS big for better or worse. Those who swear by 4" size will quickly adapt to 4.7 while those who wanting to go all the way will take 5.5.

This year may be the only year Apple will have all 4, 4.7, 5.5 in the catalog at the same time, which will be an interesting market research material.
