The more I see the watch the more I like it and I don't really like watches.

Still don't know if I woukd get one because i don't wear any jewelry at all and chaff at the thought of wearing any. Never say never I guess.

How are people on MacRumors so "meh" about the Watch? I'm betting on *much* more hype and marketing before the actual release/pre-order, so I'll also wager that all the "meh"s we're seeing now will flip soon enough.

Who cares if the "mehs" flip or not? To me, the noise volume is always commensurate with the generally perceived quality and desirability of the product.

Meh... all that talk about Switzerland being 'in deep ****', they got nothing to worry about...

If Apple sells as many watches as they seem to think they will sell, there is no way it would not impact Switzerland.

I never wait for second gen. I love new technology and am always ready to try it. And, I can't think of a time when I've been disappointed, either. So, bring on the :apple: Watch - I am ready.

If it was a real stand-alone iOS device with a GSM radio, l would want one. As an iPhone accessory, meh.
I've been using a 6th gen iPod Nano as a watch (w/Lunatik band) for the past few weeks. Battery life has been quite good (4-5 days), and doesn't drop significantly when playing a few podcast episodes an hour of music a day. Nike+ works well.

I agree with you that if the aWatch becomes a standalone device (with longer than 1 day battery life when using it simply as a watch) then I'll be very interested in it.

Not for me. I see no point. I have all of my apps on my phone. I can tell what time it is on my phone. If anything, I'd get a Fitbit Force 2, if they ever even get made. I'm about as pro-Apple as it gets, I just don't see a use for this. Don't get me wrong, it looks cool. I just wouldn't ever need it.

I would be interested in this if... It were more attractive/elegant, as well made but round, thinner, had better battery life. I also wouldn't mind a cheaper version that had a b&w paper white display, (who needs color on a tiny screen, especially in harsh daylight).

See the words that don't go together.

Mass Production - Which we know Apple does well.

Gold Expensive Designer Business Leaders and high flyers special items.

I still don't see why those is their own private jets want to show off a $350 watch and then say, yeah I know it's exactly the same as the one you have, but my one has a thin gold case round the outside.

That explains all luxury watches.

----------

I am being cautious about this one right now, but looking at that interface, I am nowhere near sold on it right now. The amount of info packed on that screen is nowhere near the clean interface I expect. Having sensors to track my physical activity is very nice and could be a big thing as a runner, though I already have a nike+ gps watch, as I imagine many other active people do (or equivalent of course). Healthkit makes the jump seem like it could be worthwhile as my cals are already being tracked there, but, and it's a big but, they have to clean up that interface big time. Multiple screens to get at finer grains of info like we see on other ios devices would go a long way here.

Have to see on the final of course, right now...I am concerned.

They have not even shown the interface yet.

ipod - walkman, portable CD and other media portable players have nothing to worry about.
iphone - cell phone KINGs of the day have nothing to worry about.
iTunes - CD sales have nothing to worry about
ipad - Microsoft XP Tablet edition has nothing to worry about
Apple watch - ____________________________________

You are forgetting one MASSIVE difference here.

Those other devices all performed and were bought for the function they performed, and Apple came up with a device that performed that function better or in a more easy to use manner.

We are leaving that space now and entering into fashion and taste.

Or course people buy a cheap watch so they can tell the time, but anything, even a $5 casio can do that. They buy it as they like the look or it, or enjoy the quality of it, the actual mechanics of the timepiece.

If the swiss made poor smartwatches and Apples smartwatch was better then yes I agree, but as the moment, the two devices may as well be a fridge and a lawnmower.

Yep it'll sell like hot cakes and i'm sure down the line i'll be convinced i need it in my life. However...

I fail to see it's value currently even with my fervent imagination.

I don't wear watches as they're uncomfortable, whether it's my hairy arms, boney wrists or sweat, i find all watches to be rather nasty and smelly things after a few months. Bling is great and all but these things just weren't made for me.

For the vast majority they are gonna be on these things like dog **** and I think they nailed the design for fashionista.

Well

If you are saying:

Plastic Ring = Apple Watch quality
Gold Ring = Apple Watch quality with a gold case around the outside.

If you are saying that, that in effect a normal Aluminium / Stainless steel has the same quality/value perception as a plastic ring then I guess you are right.

I myself would see a Plastic ring and a Gold ring as miles apart.
I would not however class an Apple watch with a high polished quality stainless steel case, THAT much different from the exact same item in every way apart from a gold case.

Okay but you realize high end Swiss watch makers do the exact same thing right? They take the identical internals and out them in a more expensive housing with a more expensive band.

:D

Well, there has to be MORE for a product to change from mass market to very high end than just changing the case material.

Take a Volkswagen Beetle in brushed Aluminum or high quality polished steel, and sell millions of them.
Remove the body and replace it with a thin gold body. It's still not a luxury car.

For me anyway, personally, just the case/body material change is not enough to transform the entire product into something else.
Not when the other 95% of the device is exactly the same

You really don't understand the watch industry.

Oh yes, I'm sure they do.
I would guess the internals are not exactly low end ones though.

I have no idea, but I would take a wild guess the quality of the moment, jewels etc would get better in the more expensive watches.

But I accept they don't make a different movement for every single case of course :)

those who buy swiss watch usually have 2 or more watches at home. Plus i really dont see this watch being a competition to the current swiss watches, totally different segment no matter how Apple tries to convince us with those flashy Paris shows.

This misses why most people buy expensive watches. While a portion of the audience is interested in the intricate details of precision time keeping, the bulk of sales are as status pieces, which apple will likely impact.

I'd be a lot more excited for this product if I thought I'd be able to afford one.

I'm expecting the one I'd want (black stainless steel w/ black metal band) to cost $500+, and that's just too much IMO.

Not the same market

For the top end one, it is the same market. If this is useful enough those people will want them on their wrist mist times which means they will probably buy less of the other watches

It is probably worse for the mid range watches.

I've spent enough in the last 12 months on an iPad mini Retina, a MacBook Air, and now the iPhone 6. I'm not dropping several hundred on a smartwatch that requires that I have my phone to begin with. I'll just use the phone. AND, it's the first generation of the Apple Watch, and I'm not going to be one of their guinea pigs. I'll wait until they refine this product and then see if there is a need for it in my lifestyle.

My life essentially won't be complete until I get my :apple:WATCH.

*slowly pushes iPhone 6 Plus away from view*
