So I've had my iPhone 7 matte black since launch day and only put a case on it when i go to work since my phone is subject to potential drops. Well I just removed my case and on the side of the phone are a bunch of scratches down to the silver under the black. (I can't feel them if I run my finger across them, it's more that the color rubbed off)
So if you plan on keeping yours in a case make sure you keep every last particle of debris out of there.
Also somehow there's a small chip in the top left corner of the glass. I have never chipped, cracked or shattered an iPhone screen as long as I've had one (4, 5, 6, 6s) and have always just had a case with no screen protector. I didn't bother to worry at first about the potential issues of this phone but now I really am starting to wonder about the build quality of the 7. I have literally babied this phone thus far.

Yes pictures please. I have this phone with the silicone black case that I've been using off and on.

and this is why I hate 98% of all cases (besides bulky and completely ruining the user experience), they do more harm eventually then giving you that protection when dropping your iPhone on the floor.

Any small (miniscule) piece of sand can cause a bunch of (very small) scratches if it reaches the space between the back of the case and the back of your iPhone.
So to avoid this for 100%, you have to remove the case every single day to make sure this can not happen.... (something for the OCD people :p:p:p)

Tell me about it. It wasn't there before I put the case on yesterday either. What's funny is I wasn't around dust or anything at work yesterday. I was painting.

I'm skeptical. There's no case that would do that kind of damage -- those are deep scratches. You've either dropped it or done something more than just putting it in a case. I've had my phone for a few days, slid it across meeting tables, tossed it on the floor at the gym, and it's been in my gym bag -- no scratches or marks. Oh yeah, and I don't put a case on my phone.

The damage the pictures show is not consistent with your story ...

Hey you can choose not to believe me, however I have not dropped the phone. The case is xdesign which I had for previous phones as well.

Also the scratches aren't deep. I can't feel them if I run my finger over them. It's literally just the black coloring that has come off

I am inclined to agree with you on this. The most telling is the chipped screen. Not a case related issue. Plus, the case was only on it for one day

Looks more like you had sand in the case which can do this. That or it was a cheap Chinese case.

I put the case on daily for work. Take it off after. Been this way since I got the phone. It wasn't one day. If this was due to dropping it I wouldn't be running to this forum making up a lie about it. I'm a little too old for that.

Not saying you are lying, but could it be possible that some one dropped it and didn't tell you? I would be freaking out, if my phone was fine one day and the next day the screen is chipped and scratches are on it. I would not be blaming the case, i would be trying to figure out who damaged my phone.

I meant the scratches and chip weren't there before I put the case on in the morning, like I've done every morning before work since I got the phone.
And I'm usually working alone. And no one has handled my phone since I have gotten it. The black coming off I'm not super shocked about because I remember it being a problem with the 5. I'm not stoked about it by any means though. I just assume the removal of the case did it or some thing got in there. But I clean the case daily and never see anything more than finger print smudges. The chip is what has me scratching my head.
