Last year, my wife got both the 6S and 6S+, the latter for work only. She put the 6S in the soft lined leather case that I got her for the regular 6S and then a silicone case for the 6S+. The 6S is flawless, looks like new. The 6S+ is all scratched up from dirt getting in it.

I am giving my 6 space grey to my mother and it looks brand new, again, in it's Apple leather case. My 7+ matte black is in the same case, I will do my usual 4-5 times a year cleaning of the inside and it should be fine.

I'm not here to say rather or not the op is lying or not, but my iPhone 5s was kept in an otter box defender it's whole time spent with me, phone was purchased new....until I took it off at the Apple Store on the release day of the 6 plus to trade it in. The side of the phone had all sorts of dings in it. I never even dropped the phone with the case on it. So it does happen. Believe me or don't believe me, is up to you, but I have no reason to lie about it.

I totally believe you, and I have had cases damage phones before too. My first ever iPhone, the iPhone 4, was damaged by an iFrogz case. The simple act of sliding the case on and off the phone scratched the antenna bands up pretty badly. The bead blasting on those bands exposed stuff like that pretty easily.

What I'm saying is what happened in the OP's pics does NOT look like that variety of damage, especially considering there are chunks taken out of the screen too. This phone was dropped.

I'll agree with that. Though some of it does. The part that pissed me off about mine is I left it in the otter box. Didn't take it out and put it in

I got a clear case since I bought the matte black for the color. Leather would defeat that purpose
Same here. I am loving this combination. I wanted this color to show through. In a leather case it hides the stealthyness of the black iPhones. Reminds me a lot of the Black and Slate iPhone 5

This is why i always use the apple silicone and leather case, both have a microfibre lining. I was planning on a cheap clear case with my JB but then realised this might happen.

I have taken my Matte black plus out in and out of 4 different cases without issues so far. And I have had the phone since the beginning. And I throw my phone all over the place. In my gym bag. Work bag. Pockets. No issues so far.

this is why i always use a skin. basically invisible but completely protects the finish. the big problem is that even that tiny amount of extra thickness makes most cases unusable. bought a very basic flexible rubber case from spigen that has plenty of room and that combo has worked great for my 6s+.

I've always used Apple's leather cases bc I let my phone sit on my console and it reduces the chance of it sliding off. I do work in a very dusty environment and take my phone out of the case for a cleaning every other week. Even after that, I've always found small dots and scratches from dust that works its way in. I've never been able to keep a phone in perfect condition and I don't expect too. Normal wear and tear is nothing to get worked up over and the argument of I spent such and such doesn't make sense to me. Everything that is used daily will show wear and tear, especially if used as often as a phone. The front end of my truck is full of rock chips in the paint and my windshield has small chips and cracks here and there. All to be expected from something used so much on a daily basis. I just enjoy what I have and don't stress the small stuff.

Mysterious scratch just happen from time to time. Once I took the case of my 6S plus and found this. It has been all the time on the apple silicone case but looks if I had dropped it, which obviously I didn't otherwise the screen would have also shattered. Did a coin or keys got between the case and the phone? Who knows but It happened, and I'm not sure how.

Not necessarily. I dropped my phones several time without breaking my screen. Just because you drop the phone doesn't mean the screen breaks.

I know that, but from the picture with the dent, it was really next to the screen, a dropped who could have caused that dent would probably have broken the screen right next to it.

possible the finish was applied improperly? On my matte black 7, I put on my old 6 spigen case without bothering to clean it, etc and it's not rubberized. Phone bounces around my gym bag, camelback on a few mountain bike rides etc and the black surface is perfect fortunately. So if no one fesses up to dropping it then that thing may've been anodized improperly.
