I can’t really tell much difference when it comes to how slippery the backs are, but I much prefer the look and feel of the matte glass.

Apple loves slippery iPhones. They get dropped much more frequently—time for repair or new phone. The 6 series was the slipperiest dry object ever created by man. It literally wants to fly out of your hand. Absolute asinine design.
Don't put it past them. Their business is selling iPhones. The more that crash to the ground the better

The vast majority put their phones in cases. Apple sells cases. They don't want people using Applecare. That cuts into their profits. Better to create software that slows down older phones, and get people to upgrade.

Makes sense, matte glass usually is slicker than shiny glass (try running your finger across your MacBook trackpad vs your iPhone or iPad screen). I also don't tend to like the feel of it, hope they revert for next years models (or go with a different (ceramic?) material instead)...

Nothing weird about it. I can't stand cases, either. Not only do they make the phone larger and more of a PITA to slip in/out of pockets, but they also hide the beautiful design of the phone! Oh and skins/wraps also suck because no matter how perfectly you apply them, they still are at least .03mm thick (or whatever) - you can feel the edge, wherever it may be, and it's annoying.

For me, it's naked, all the way, with AppleCare in case I drop the phone (that's happened once, in the past 11 years of using iPhones)

I can understand that. As long as you enjoy the iPhone without a case is cool... some people don’t use a case because they want to show off the new phone they have, it’s only good for the user, I’m sure no one else cares which iPhone we have. I have dry hands most of the time, plus I always use a case.

Put the Apple made clear case on it, and it ends up feeling just like the X’s Max back did. So you can still see it and grip it, liking it this way!

It’s slippery. I truly don’t get what all the fuss is about with regards to the matte coating providing better grip.

I picked up the Pro 256 GB in midnight green. Great phone overall, but it’s a lot more slippery than my iPhone 8 was with the glass back.

Glass just hooks onto your palm. The matte finish does not stick at all. So I’m very confused why so many people and YouTubers have been reporting this phone to have a better grip. In my experience thus far, it’s the complete opposite.

I couldn’t agree with you more, it was my first thought when I held mine. I was excited as I thought my XS Max had a good grip, so any better would have been fantastic.

I find it way more grippy too, it's the first time I'm going naked since iPhone 6s Plus, 7 Plus, X, and XS Max. Different stokes for different folks.;)

They use cases because the phones are delicate and prone to damage. Its the stupidest design approach I have seen.
