I was a huge fan of max tech, but now he’s just a clickbait troll. It’s getting super annoying , what do you guys feel ?

He created a video now where he said the apple event is announced , my heart skipped a beat only to find out it’s fake after frantically searching through macrumours.

This is very disingenuous. To add that he deletes any comment that calls him out on being clickbait

I never heard of him, but checked his last uploaded video and I annoyed myself about the fact that he needs to advertise something in the video description and pinned comment.

Seems like a good reason to forget about him and just go back to watching normal TV. 😉
he’s actually quite popular and he does offer insights that others neglect but his latest video really put me off

I got his YouTube notification saying that the latest Apple event is announced and I frantically was checking Mac rumours for an updated

Then I came to the realisation that I’m a fool who has been clickbaited . I feel awful

I don't like calling a person's content clickbait, cause that seems a bit insulting. I would say that channel's content is often inaccurate and represents a single use case for a piece of technology.

But honestly I would extend that to any large YouTube channel. At some point, the educational or actually helpful content is lost, and it just becomes about growing the channel, and in turn, making money off content. The viewer is less of an interest to big YouTubers, in my mind.

EDIT: I'm an idiot and didn't actually look up the video in question. Yeah, @Newgoblin49, that latest video is incredibly deceiving!

I used to watch but then they became more hyperbolic than Apple themselves, and at least Apple does it in a fancy, flashy way. I don’t know if the content changed, my reaction changed, or some combination thereof but I don’t watch that channel anymore.

I don't know what people are considering to be the golden era of MacTech, but they first got on my radar during the SSD speed debacle back in 2022 and it seemed to have so many people in thrall that I went through step by step to figure out if there was any useful information provided at all. There wasn't.

As far as I can tell, MaxTech has always been click bait. Maybe it's gotten worse, I don't watch their videos, but I don't see how it could have.

This is shocking , didn’t know it’s this bad

You’re probably right , his insights were good though

You can't get good insight from bad information. I think people implicitly trust confidence and MaxTech was overflowing with that, and mix in a bit of confirmation bias because they were saying things were fact that aligned with how some people felt. Once people started noticing the lack of clothes on the emperor though, it dismantled the illusion that the confidence inspired.

You know, I've just completely lost interest in tech YouTube. Dunno what you think, but I feel it's basically become influencers flexing on how much money they have to buy the newest, best product (EVERY SINGLE VIDEO is sponsored, it seems like).

Not that that wasn't the case before, cause it absolutely was, but I feel there were fewer people doing it back in 2019-2020 than there are now.

Hell, a video came up on my YT feed of a 20-year-old's apartment tour. That guy's my age and literally is just bragging about all the stuff he has. It's pointless, and honestly really disgusting. Guess people think that's okay to do--but when real people meet them in real life, no one's gonna want to talk to them or be their friend because all they do is flex on their wealth and have zero regard for others' feelings. Social media culture is so disgusting. One of the many reasons I don't like it.
He’s been this way for a while now…. I used to watch his channel but it got annoying so no more. He’s the LTT of the Apple world 😂
I quit watching when they were wrong about WWDC 2021. Their M1 videos were really great, I thought. Kinda went downhill after that, to be honest.

They did a Samsung vs pixel vs iPhone video last and the third brother was there

Thank you!! Yeah no, I stopped watching them a long time ago, so I was completely oblivious that there was a third person making an appearance recently. I mean, I have nothing against that, but it's interesting to me.

A bit of me feels like these “Influencers” are buying products and returning it within the return window

As @Analog Kid has pointed out , I think further analysis needs to be done on their bad data and a detailed explanation needs to be posted.

I’ve just realised I’ve been mislead all this while , imagine the 10s of 1000s of others who are too.

@Analog Kid I promise I'll take the time to read the post you linked, because I'm aware it provides important context. But for now, I will say that benchmarks are artificial and are honestly a terrible way to measure things.

I also think a lot of YouTubers are dishonest when it comes to actually reporting the data. I can't think of specific examples, but don't you think there's at least one instance where someone either manipulated the results, or otherwise cheated by purposefully using slower/faster drives? I get that's not the case here, but it honestly seems like a problem that would've happened. I don't know for sure though.

Tech channels on YouTube nowadays feel like those shopping channels from 80/90’s. Just bunch of copy paste unboxing/reviews with same format and content. I’m even considering unsubscribing from MKBHD now when he started advertising chargers and beds on his channel. Super annoying.
