You forgot to add the price for the dongles!!!!

For $6699 you can't download from an SD card, plug in a ethernet cable, connect to HDMI, connect any legacy hard drives, etc etc.

Plus the cost of docking stations and dongles. There is now a healthy market for these as Apple are so out of touch with the Mac user.

Is that a joke?

That's $13.99 on Amazon, does that break the bank, then?

speccing this sucker out costs more than an imac pro. it can go beyond $5k easily with just a few bumps such as in ram and cpu upgrades, and the obvious tax not pictured here which is basically the cost of a laptop itself. boy, this is expensive! (literally in the words of the shopkeeper in zelda):

zelda, boy this is really expensive macbook.jpg

i am just incredibly disappointed that no other upgrades to the hardware (the casing, the ports, the webcam, etc) were made :(

That’s a beautifully well Specd’ machine, but likely for only those who require that much power in a chosen profession.

a lot of people actually get the companies they work for to buy this for them (totally specced out) as it is easily affordable in multi-million dollar budgets (think movie studios, production departments in finance firms like merrill lynch or deloitte and touche which are billion dollar operations). believe it or not, as i live in nyc and see it with my own eyes, there ARE a LOT of wealthy people out there who have serious cash to blow and this is just pennies.

I agree, i'm shocked at the price BUT for say an extreme sports film production company that for instance, spend 100K on a Phantom 8K camera etc, I guess the 7K price is OK for such an amazing tool. I guess, it's not a product for the domestic market at that price.

When guys like Louis Rossmann on YouTube bangs on the state of Apple repair and their policies, he has valid points.

That said, I do not understand these criticisms for the premium price charged for the maxed out accessories. EVERY OTHER PC LAPTOP CHARGES SIMILAR PRICES FOR SUCH.

If anything, that's what Dell, HP, Microsoft and the like are trying to do...copy Apple's hardware/ecosystem business model! AAA laptops with premium hardware are always going to have a premium price tag.

Why are people still complaining about dongles? My 'pro' hard drive has usb-c. My camera has wireless tethering. My flash drive is usb-c. Even my monitors are usb-c. Keyboard and trackpad are wireless..
The market is shifting towards usb-c hard and fast.

Beat me to it. I was just typing a similar example :)

I do a lot of heavy video & photo editing, but i couldn’t see myself spending nearly $7,000 on a macbook pro. Especially one that may still have a defective keyboard. Having said that, I could see some professionals spending that much. It’s a write off for them and I am sure they make the $$ spent back thru their work rather quickly.

I thought (by reading all these forums) that everyone here wanted updated Macs.
Now that we have them, everyone is birthing about them...
What gives..? Get life.
It's what wasn't updated that disappointed me. That being the screen resolution, price, and to some extent the keyboard (we don't know just how much has changed with that yet, though it's not looking very promising).

But at least I try to stay consistent. There are some on here who will be disappointed no matter what Apple does.

Its the machine we all would buy if money was not a question. I could buy it, but for what, bragging rights and just to say I have a powerful laptop many can only dream of? There are real professionals I'm sure who could buy this and get the ROI from it. Case in point, the professionals Apple used to demo the machine - video director for Despacito (to be honest that video could have been filmed on a iPad anyway), scientists working on HIV research, expensive art installations.

In 3 to 4 years, you probably will be able to pick up this same maxed out 2018 MBP for maybe about $1900. Yeah, I know, there will be an even better one you want 3 years from now. If your income can afford it, don't watch any faces and treat yourself. Its just gonna be an expensive Facebook/Macrumors/Spotify device.

For many, its obvious, we are reaching some sort of plateau in the need to upgrade to the latest. In the mean time, remember: food, rent, (if you have a family, pets) and the 2019 MacBook Pro is coming! :D

WTF?? With a unreliable keyboard hahahaha (laughing cause i dont know how to react to them anymore), apple is losing it! My 4000$ + dongles, maxxed 2016 model is on its 3th keyboard issue.... support needs my laptop for repairs 2 weeks per new keyboard... I bought a maxxed out model because its my workhorse, but i can just afford my computer to be away from me for 2 weeks for an indefinite amount of time each time the faulty keyboard decides to breaks again.. what a nightmare..

Such an amazing tool is a bit of an overstatement :D Well, first you would need camera dongles on top of that, then AppleCare to replace your keyboard one week later, then actually replace the keyboard when one letter gets stuck and so on.

...or you could buy a $2000 base model with a $1000 eGPU and get twice the effect for half the price

Are we complaining because Apple gives a select few people the OPTION to spec their machine to this price point? There's a lot to complain about, but I think we want Apple to provide options! If I had the need, I'm glad I could get 4TB of SSD storage in my portable computer. I don't have a need for that though. If they had a 128GB of RAM option, I'm glad that the people who need it could spend $20k to get one.

For the rest of us who need a Macbook Pro there are other options that will likely fit our budget for this kind of computer.
