Since I can't afford $10k Apple Watch Edition, this came across my mind. What if I spray painted my Sports Edition aluminum body with gold paint (don't care if it turns out matte gold, might look better to match my gold i6p).

Am I the only crazy person to think about this? Has anyone else thought about painting their new Apple Watch? If so, what color?

I'll be preordering the Sports Edition and will update this thread periodically. :)

It would look stupid and you'd ruin a $350+ dollar apple watch.

Maybe you are just crazy. Here's to the crazy ones... :D

As an alternative, anodized aluminium can be dyed (the surface layer of aluminium oxide absorbs and holds dye). It's how the colored iPhones are given their space grey or gold color.

And the watch is supposed to be water resistant - so it's an option.

You'll need a special dye IIRC. Probably best to stick to pale colors to minimize signs of unevenness or eventual wear
Not exactly how anodizing works....it's actually a chemical reaction between the metal and the acid bath which through an electrical charge actually changes the surface layer of the aluminum causing the color change.... not quite that simple but definitely not dyed.

No offense but, the only thing worse than gold is Faux gold.

Wait several months. I'm betting Apple will put out "gold" and "rose gold" aluminum versions to match the iPhones that'll be out in September. (Rose gold if the iPhone rumor turns out to be true)

They won't look like the Edition watches. They'll look like the iPhones. Like the Space Gray model matches the Space Gray iPhone.

Unless you pay a ton of money for a professional paint job from people that do this for a living, it's going to look like dick.

Subscribing to this thread so I can see how horrible the paint job comes out.

I can't wait to see all of the ways people add creativity to their watches. It is only a matter of time before etching/engraving patterns, pictures, and quotes becomes a thing.

Finally...someone's on-board! I'll keep this thread up-to-date. :D

I'm interested to see your outcome. To each his own. Who knows you might end up with something pretty cool looking. I personally wouldn't do it but I'm also not very good at that type of stuff. Keep us posted!

WOW, looks nice:eek:

Way to go!

Edit:
Pictures disappeared? Was that yours?
