What a freaking joke.

Combined, Mayweather and Pacquiao made $300M.
We have gone completely mad as a society.

This is typical of late stage empires, reminds me of the gladiator fights in the colosseum in Rome.

Well except the money is all going to the gladiators.
I don't know, the money is being coughed up by willing buyers (I wasn't one of them) so j don't see what's wrong with it.

But that raises an interesting question. If Pacquiao and Schwarzenegger got in to a fight, who would win? How about Pacquiao and Schwarzenegger when he was 36? :D

Size of a person does not determine how good they can take blows to the head. A professional boxer of any size could most likely knock Schwarzenegger out cold with just one good hook to the face.

I saw the fight and I expected mayweather to beat the breaks off Pacquiaio. The fight really was sad. Mayweather is a much bigger Pacquiaio and yet he did nothin to his to his face

This fight didn't even seem worth $1,000,000 let alone $300m+. What has America become that we are so inclined to pay for this unexciting ********? Plus, forty minutes of that for $99? Hell, if Americans want to waste money on entertainment Marvel should be charging $299 to see two hours worth of the Avengers... at least that looks expensive.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Applies to everyone. Even Mayweather. He can't fight forever, and if he keeps spending money at his current rate, he'll be broke 5 years after retirement and crying "I don't know what happened, my spending just got out of control" on ESPN: Broke Athletes Part 7. Hell, the guy can't even read, I doubt he can manage his money.

He pays his personal chef $1,000 per meal. At that rate, this fight should pay for his meals for the rest of his life ;).

what's so insane about people paying to watch sports?
do you think boxers are the only rich athletes?

Let me introduce you to these names: Tiger Woods, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, etc.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi. But yes all these guys are all massively overpaid. However, they earn their money more than a bank CEO does who simply doesn't. No human being could possibly earn that kind of money through skill and hard work. It's made mostly because of greedy media companies who will continue to milk the fools who pay the money.

Who are you to say if they are or are not overpaid?
So how much should they be paid?
Doesn't the market determine their salary/income?

And who determines the market? If you think that's based on whether people pay or don't pay you are very naive. HBO pretty much locked down the viewing of this fight. Was it worth $100? If you say yes then you need to wake up.

I didn't pay for it because I was busy and I'm not a boxing fan.

But who the **** do you think chose to pay $100?
The people who paid did.
Just because you think they shouldn't, doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to.

I'll admit I don't, but I would still prefer for the biggest fight of the year to at least include 180+ pound boxers. Welterweight range is too low for what we should expect from a professional match IMO.

Honestly those large fighters hit harder, but the fights are usually boring. They get tired fast and spend more time hugging than fighting. Welterweight is where some of the best fights happen.

I was working Saturday night so I didn't see the fight or even catch the highlights. I talked to some big fight fans on Sunday though and they said the fight was pretty disappointing.

I think fighting sports like boxing, UFC, etc. tend to be a lot more about the hype. Rarely does the actual fight live up to the anticipation. I can remember when I was a kid my dad and his friends would get together at someone's house to watch big fights with big names like Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, and Mike Tyson. The vast majority of the time people came away disappointed. Either it was boring and went to a decision or someone got knocked out too early.
