Now how many years will it take for it be available across their entire line of vehicles. I'm shopping for a new vehicle and although I like the CX-5 I may need to pass on it. Since 2018 CX-5 doesn't support CarPlay (yet). Mazda did you know its 2018?

I wouldn’t hold my breath.. I have a 2017 cx-9 and when I bought it a year ago, CarPlay was only a couple months away.. Here we are a year later, still no CarPlay...

WOW! Love all my Mazda friends! Love my CX-5 as well. As many mentioned, I don't need CarPlay in order to love it. I do hope older models get it. I have a 2016 and was just thinking of keeping it (I lease) because there is nothing I really need compared to a new one. If it gets CarPlay that seals the deal! Really hoping this happens!

The local Mazda dealer told me that they would be doing an update to the 2018 CX-5's to have carplay later this year. Clearly this press release says otherwise. I would take a look at the VW Tiguan. That has a pretty decent carplay implementation.

I had Mazda’s for the last 7 years, was getting a new car in May this year and looked elsewhere due to their lack of CarPlay and the continued promises it was coming and then it not showing up. Good to hear it’s finally coming (I would still never recommend the Mazda CX-3 to anyone, biggest mistake of my car buying life!)

When I went looking for a new car, the idea of Car Play never entered my mind in my choice
I bought the CX-5 because of the price, the way it looked and more importantly the way it handled
It checked every box I had in a new vehicle for me, and I looked at a lot of others

If it had Car Play I would prolly never even use it
Just doesn't really matter to me at all

Had an Alpine iLX-007 unit installed on my 2013 Mazda CX-5 to get CarPlay. Now that I've had it for several years, for me, its a must have. I love my Mazda and I would love to upgrade to a 2018 CX-5, but with no CarPlay, I will wait or get a CR-V.

Makes me wonder why Apple would ever want to get invol

Car companies move at a snails pace. It's a very very complex, messy business to be in automotive in general. I'm just glad carplay even exists.

After market units are just $500. Your buying decision should not depend on the availability of car play but other factors.
Sometimes they're even cheaper. I paid closer to 400 for my pioneer unit. My 2010 jeep compass has had carplay since 2015. The only reason this even warrants an article should be because it's pathetically late for any vehicle to not already come with it.

Land Rover Discovery (2018) doesn't have CarPlay/Android Auto either... anxiously waiting an update.

With so much of the system preferences and adjustments as part of the infotainment unit, is it even possible to replace the OEM with an aftermarket head unit?

If you are going to go this route I would get a unit with wireless carplay for some future proofing.
I already bought it. :) I think Alphine is the only one to offer wireless right now and it’s a bit more than I wanted to spend. I always plug my phone in anyway to keep it charged so no big deal.

I did exactly that - came close to buying the 2018 CX-5, but the lack of legroom in the back seat made me look at the CR-V (which comes with Car Play across the line). Same price as the Mazda, and better for our needs. Love the Honda.

Pioneer and JVC do as well, Kenwood for some reason only offers wireless android auto right now for some reason.

If you love your Mazda there's no way you would go to CR-V LOL
I wouldn't jump on 2018 CX-5 just yet with the new cylinder deactivation. I'm letting that mature a little bit as other companies have tried it and failed. Not saying Mazda will fail but I'm personally no guinea pig. Just like iPhone X at $999...this year's model will be cheaper and better.

Wow, all these posts and not single peep from the usual suspects about wireless CarPlay not being available on most models that support wired CarPlay.

Ah ok. I don’t get what the big deal is. I have a lightning cable that I always keep in my car.

This might just a new england problem, but Mazdas seem to rust faster than any other car around here. Don't get me wrong, they all rust eventually. But I see 2015 Mazdas showing signs of rust around the wheel wells with no other sign of damage, and 2010 Mazdas with full on rust spots. If there is rust on the painted surface that soon, I don't even want to know what it's like under the car. At least Hondas and Toyotas give you more time before the rust starts to show.

It's probably a good car for other parts of the country that don't have salt-water soaked roads for 4 months of the year. And it's probably a decent car to lease - the prices are low and rust isn't an issue if you only have it for two winters at most. But man I would not recommend buying one for a long loan term to anyone around here.
