I was a Mazda driver for years and now my family has a Honda and a Chevrolet. Not sure how that happened. I'll be back in a Mazda in a few years for the driving experience. Great cars.
He isn't necessarily wrong about Mazda. It's just that their market share is irrelevant to most people buying cars. It should be irrelevant. Mazda has always been an afterthought from a business standpoint. They were Ford's red headed step child for the longest time and now seem to be the son-in-law of Toyota. Without help from their automotive brethren, Mazda wouldn't exist.But... what you said isn't a fact... lol

and yet they make the best Japanese cars.
WOW! Love all my Mazda friends! Love my CX-5 as well. As many mentioned, I don't need CarPlay in order to love it. I do hope older models get it. I have a 2016 and was just thinking of keeping it (I lease) because there is nothing I really need compared to a new one. If it gets CarPlay that seals the deal! Really hoping this happens!
I had Mazda’s for the last 7 years, was getting a new car in May this year and looked elsewhere due to their lack of CarPlay and the continued promises it was coming and then it not showing up. Good to hear it’s finally coming (I would still never recommend the Mazda CX-3 to anyone, biggest mistake of my car buying life!)
This might just a new england problem, but Mazdas seem to rust faster than any other car around here. Don't get me wrong, they all rust eventually. But I see 2015 Mazdas showing signs of rust around the wheel wells with no other sign of damage, and 2010 Mazdas with full on rust spots. If there is rust on the painted surface that soon, I don't even want to know what it's like under the car. At least Hondas and Toyotas give you more time before the rust starts to show.
It's probably a good car for other parts of the country that don't have salt-water soaked roads for 4 months of the year. And it's probably a decent car to lease - the prices are low and rust isn't an issue if you only have it for two winters at most. But man I would not recommend buying one for a long loan term to anyone around here.
He is wrong, actually. According to data from April 2017, Ford is #1 with 14.6% market share in USA while Mazda is in place #17 with 1.7% market share. That is actual middle of the pack...He isn't necessarily wrong about Mazda. It's just that their market share is irrelevant to most people buying cars. It should be irrelevant. Fans of Mazda (count me as one) shouldn't confuse the brand with the business when attacking "haters" - your word, not mine. Two different topics.
Good, you are one data point. When I went looking for a new car, the idea of Car Play never entered my mind in my choice
I bought the CX-5 because of the price, the way it looked and more importantly the way it handled
It checked every box I had in a new vehicle for me, and I looked at a lot of others
If it had Car Play I would prolly never even use it
Just doesn't really matter to me at all
The only thing with lower market share than Mazda is Windows Phone.
There is no after market unit for the 2017-18 CX-5. Some units can not be swapped out. You can check on Cutchfield.com to see if your Mazda had a compatible head unit. After market units are just $500. Your buying decision should not depend on the availability of car play but other factors.
I did exactly that - came close to buying the 2018 CX-5, but the lack of legroom in the back seat made me look at the CR-V (which comes with Car Play across the line). Same price as the Mazda, and better for our needs. Love the Honda.
Did it occur to you that maybe if you go through that many cars, they might be garbage?

Some Subaru cars still don't offer CarPlay.Does this mean that every traditional manufacturer (e.g. not Tesla) now offers CarPlay? I thought Toyota and Mazda were the last holdouts.
Edit: I did see the last line of the article but I'm looking for clarification on "one of the last"

They added it on the 2019 STI/WRX and forester. So every car they sell has it as of the 2019 model year. Some Subaru cars still don't offer CarPlay.
I gotta say Mazda really shows how not to do communication and product roll out. What, is this part of them run by interns or something? Long delays, vague promises, exceptions to supported models and years... Oh well.
