would you like the MBA KB on the MBP?

Now, in that picture I actually like the look. However, the aluminum really isn't that shiny and such and in person I hate the black and silver of the Air. I don't mind the chiclets (I love my aluminum wired keyboard) but I love how the Pro looks, well, professional by being one color and I think that the current keyboard fits its design better.

Something tells me even though I hate it, I'm going to have to learn to like it. It's bound to be coming sooner rather than later in some way..

I hate it. I love the silver keys on my MBP already thanks. Its such a pleasure to type on and it really feels like a high quality keyboard.

i hope they dont change it.
there are people who like and dislike the chicklets, but theres not many (that i know of) that dislike the current keyboards.
i think they should stay how they are.

I think the current keyboard is entirely to prone to having the keys pop off. I'd welcome the chicklet style, and a more sturdy case. :D

i have to admit, it does look a bit like a dell, not that theirs anything wrong with that

am I the only person here disapointed with the MBP keyboard? may be Im out of luck but, mine isnt that soft, actually the Caps Lock key is the one I hate more... some times I have to hit it really hard to respond correctly... Also when typing some text I notice some missed caracters, its really annoying:(

it would be the case to ask for a keyboard replacement? seriously, my older cheap Toshiba laptop was so much more pleasant to type than my actual MBP, I was not expecting that for a $2.000 laptop!

just to answer one of your concerns.
the capslock key is really like that.. i don't know the exact word/term for it, but it's suppose to prevent you from accidentally hitting it when typing, that's why you need extra pressure when pressing it compared to the rest of the keys:D

Ha.
Seriously, though, for everyone who says they hope they don't change it to chicklets, what's your problem? It seems like a lot of the nay-sayers already have MBP's, so it's not like your going to instantly be forced to change your ALREADY EXISTING keyboard. If you don't like it, then you don't have to buy it.

You're right. The black keyboard is very G4. By the time some of us upgrade, we'll be back at the current silver keyboard.

makes some sense...

looking by this point of view it could be something desired after all :D

I believe the OP asked what people thought of the keyboard on a mbp..there was nothing asking about whether or not mbp owners would buy a mbp with a mba keyboard.

I think typing on my MBP keyboard is a much smoother and nicer experience than typing on my chicklet external keyboard. On the MBP, I can gently slide my fingertips across the surfaces from key-to-key as I am locating/aiming for the key I want. It's like caressing the keyboard while typing and the contoured shape of the tops of the keys respond back to my fingertips as they move over them and then finally respond back with a "comforting" cradle once the finger finds the key.

With the chicklet keyboard, the fingertips get hung up in the gaps in between the keys if I try to stroke it like I do the MBP keyboard. I in turn have to lift my fingers and basically be more attentive when I type. The chicklets are also just flat and really have no individual ergonomics designed into them. I think the chicklets worked good in old calculators where you're just using 1 finger, banging away the math.

There's a lot going on when typing and I think the current MBP keyboard does a much better job design wise addressing some of these things and this is why I think it is better suited for a high end product. There's just much more thought and detail that went into them. It's the whole "devil/god in the details" type of thing or the difference between the interior of a BMW and say an Acura - they're both nice per se, but the BMW is on a "ho notha level".

I'm less biased :p

I had a MBP from August 07 to March 08 and MBA till now. (MBP on order now again to btw)

Anyway Macbook Air keyboard is FAR superior in terms of typing and I love the look a LOT better... Seems to stay a lot cleaner as it's more difficult for hairs, etc to get into it.

....oh, I forgot to add that whatever Apple does, will they please put back the "enter" key on the lower right like my 12"PB.

From what I am hearing, the MBA KB is structurally and stylishly better than the current, and the current feels better. But I hope you realize that you can and will get used to it if forced to, so the feel arguement doesn't really hold water

I am not too biased. I have had a macbook, still have the thin wireless chicklet keyboard, and have had a powerbook 12" and currently have a mbp...haha if that makes sense.

Still not a big fan of the chicklet. Not responsive in the same way and the feel isnt as nice as the mbp/powerbook keys. The question presented is still: love it or hate it...and "getting used to it" doesn't really apply to this topic.

I can attest to the keys popping off. I was using my MBP in bed and fumbled a magazine onto the keyboard and broke 3 keys.

Luckily, they were easy to replace, but $9 a pop. From a durability standpoint i vote chicklet.

my Core Duo MBP has an enter key just to the left of the arrow keys. it was replaced by an option key either in the Core 2 Duo model or when the keyboard was updated to have the media key layout.
