15". Nuff said. In the next couple years you'll be wanting the extra resolution and graphical performance.

well i will be using it for daily use at school so the 13" is looking pretty good right now...

All I can tell you is my personal opinion, however I do have an Oct.08 uMBP 15" and a Jun09 uMBP 13", and I never bring the 15" anywhere anymore, unless I'm traveling for work (I don't want to bring my personal machine on business trips, despite it being more manageable for travel).

The 13" is so much easier to deal with, and @ 2.53Ghz, performs really well.

Neither of you said specifically which one it was. But thank you for the link.

Ok I am looking to buy a mbp but i dont know which one to get. Im looking at the 1,699.00 15" and the 1,499.00 13" Is there any difference between the two other than size and price? please and thanks

The $1699 15" has no graphics performance edge on the 13" $1499 model. Just resolution.

There's only one 15" MacBook Pro in production right now for $1699. No one said anything about refurbs, used, or otherwise. I think it was pretty clear when he mentioned a $1699 15" and a $1499 13".

Then 13" is the way to go. Taking a computer along for a ride with your textbooks and notebooks can be a pain in the back, especially if you walk to school and your campus is big.

That is not to say the 15" won't do just fine, but the 13" is just a bit more comfortable.

The 13"' 2.53 gHz does perform very well. The screen viewing angle issues are fixed with this generation. I think I will sell my Rev.B 1.6gHz Macbook Air and make this 13" MBP my daily driver. The Air is light, but I've got some video to edit and it's too slow and firewire free.

Yeah, because everyone on MR keeps up to date with exactly what is "in production" right now....

the 13" is a really sleek machine.

but...

the 13" does not currently have an option for the matte screen and a discreet graphics card.

These two options had me opting for the 15" instead of the 13". I play a bit of WoW, and work as concept artist.

It all boils down to what you need it to do, really. List down what you need to do with it and prioritize those. That will make your choice much easier.

Just know that whichever spec you choose you will end up with a terrific machine. :D

The 13" wins for portability. The 15" offers the faster graphics card and higher resolution while still being pretty portable. The 17" is not so comfortably portable anymore but offers an even higher resolution (which IMO is too high for the screen size).

I usually use my 13" MBP with an external monitor so the screen size or coating is a moot point. I also had absolutely no need for the faster graphics card since I've got a ten fold faster desktop PC for games, 3D modeling etc. I highly value the small size and very reasonable weight.

If it was my only computer and would mostly use it with its internal display then I'd probably pick the 15" though primarily for the added screen resolution.

I believe Shambo said IMHO so it is just an opinion-

Me, I do like to engage rationally in conversation and ask the OP what they are using it for, where, and how? That is the most important part of any decision when buying something.

I admit chunky and clumsy isn't the best word choice, but they are huge- and just because one says 2" is better doesn't mean 4 is best!

OP- please post how you are using the computer, where and how?

Yes thanks this is my point. I believe the top end 15" bad boy (which I have) is Apples sweet spot in price, size, portability, raw processing power, and critically future-proofing. Again I have to say to my detractors that this is IMHO.

Are you serious? I'm pretty sure everyone here is capable of typing "www.apple.com" and seeing what's available. Not that hard. They somehow found their way here, they can find their way there too.

I'd say go for the MBP 15". Trust me, the two inches will make a good difference when you play games and movies. Also, the 15" is as portable as the 13", not like the 17" which sucks when you have to carry it to uni or work every day.

That's subjective though. I've got both, and the 13 IMO is way more portable, not so much the wait but the bulk. When you take into account the smaller case you can get, it all adds up.

I didn't say people couldn't search for it, but not everyone wants to take the time to search for a price point on apple.com and compare specs for the OP.

But like I said "Not everyone keeps up with what is in production" which in NO way says it is difficult to search for it. That wasn't my point! It simply means not everyone knows which 15" mac is the 1699 one without searching for it.

everyone can make their own recommendations, but what if the OP never plays games or movies!?!? then your rec. doesn't fit their situation. (for instance I never watch movies or play games but for what I do the 15" is still the one.)

It is somewhat helpful for people to say these things, but what we need to know is how does the OP plan on using the laptop- we did get some info about using it as a student, but not details about what tasks. Because if only email, web, iphoto, iTunes is it then the 13" is probably enough in many situations, but if they are doing photoshop, huge excel docs, etc. then perhaps the 15"

Understood, but if someone is going to comment about it, it helps to know what you're talking about, no?

13" if you are gonna move it off your desk :) The cheaper 15" got no edge except the screen size, and if you are gonna use it in school that will just be cumbersome.

My only computer is the 13" MBP :)

alright well im mainly going to be taking notes on it and reports and thats about it for school. i will be making tiny short videos/music to go with that but it is just a tiny small part. i might have a game like spore or sims 3 and thats bout it.

MBP 15" has more speakers than the 13" too. And there are NO speaker grills on the 13", so the sound won't come out as strong regardless.

Yeah, but who wants to listen to apple notebook speakers?

Even the 17 doesn't have a good low range. If you're an audiophile theres simply no way that you can go without nice headphones or an external sound system.
