alright well im mainly going to be taking notes on it and reports and thats about it for school. i will be making tiny short videos/music to go with that but it is just a tiny small part. i might have a game like spore or sims 3 and thats bout it.

Yeah it will do that just fine.

17" is too chunky and clumsy to lug around. IMHO

Depends on your point of view. I carry one around and do not find it clunky. I also have a plastic MB as a point of reference. Perhaps one handed holding is a little bad...but that is it. With that said, I'm 6-2, so relatively speaking, if I was small, like 5-2, then it might be a different game. Also, I almost never pull it out while on the move, its something I use in my lab, office ect.

Understood, but if someone is going to comment about it, it helps to know what you're talking about, no?

Yes, I agree, but while I didn't know much about the comment made about the earphone out and microphone/line in jack, I did feel like I could comment about my experience, and some of the basic pros and cons of what I do know as well as my expertise in sales which is to ask the "customer" what they are using it for and where they will use it.

So are you saying only experts should comment- come on- what makes a great thread are all the personal experiences and expertise of our members here!!!

Oh yeah, and I happen to use the MacBook Pro's speakers all the time- to listen to online video content or listening to music for short bits of time or to buy music on iTunes...but I do use externals for streaming sporting events and my music during gatherings.

No, they don't need to be experts. But I'd appreciate it if they checked their facts before making snarky comments to me, which is what I was specifically addressing, which was my point. If someone's going to debate the merits between a model in regards to graphics and resolution, they should probably know which model it is that the OP is asking about. I did, the other commenter did not. Opinions are great, but not paying attention to what the person is asking in the first place (which he did not) is kinda harming the purpose and the value of the response.

I was in sales too, for 10 years, and know fully well what is required to information gather. I gathered the OP was looking at the 15" for $1699 and the 13" for $1499, based upon what he said in the first post. Based on that, my comment of the 15" not having an edge on graphics performance (except in terms of resolution) is accurate. Why did I know that? 1 minute internet research.

I am sorry- I missed the snarky comments to you. I only saw one indirect comment about graphics perfomance- perhaps I missed it- again- sorry.

I have to say the the OP was not clear and never mentioned the word new- thread title or post. Instead we made the assumption they were talking new. The first thing I thought of on the OP was are they talking refurb, used or other....there are definately plenty of refurb. price points out there.

I'm also in this dilemma! On one hand I travel a lot, on the other I need the matt finish and those extra couple of inches are useful for photo editing, which is what I use it for. Thanks to all the squabbling this thread has been rather unhelpful.

Cheers.

I think the answer to this is easy. If you already have or are getting desktop stuff as well (I have a Mac Mini and a G5 plus a number of monitors) then the 13 inch, which I bought, is the best as you can use another system or link it to a desktop monitor.

But if it is your only computer the 15 inch makes better sense and it has a better screen. Also, if you need anything more than web surfing, word processing etc then the 15 inch makes more sense is you need near desktop functionality away from base (I don't).

So - easy. I'm taking my Macbook Pro 13 to Munich tomorrow - I must say that at this size it is already a substantial bit of kit and I wouldn't want to pack anything much larger or heavier in the one carry on bag I'm taking.
