I'll probably return mine, with this amount of ghosting I'd never be happy

So have you got one and notice the ghosting in normal use?

I just ask because for a lot of people the ghosting isn't an issue and they haven't noticed it.

Yes.
It‘s definitely noticeable, especially with text or images on a dark background.

Definitely return it then, or show it to them in-store and see if a replacement has the same issue? If it does then get your refund, but maybe a replacement will be better? Maybe not...

This is my second replacement unit.
All panels are equally ****.

Will either have to wait for the next 16" which can take up to sep/oct or get a different macbook/ laptop

10th Gen Intel will come but very similar to 9th Gen with 8 cores max.
Could you tell me more that may be implemented on the 2020/21 refresh 16” mbp? It doesn’t feel like it would be more of a upgrade and now this makes me more miserable. Do we see a refresh with 10 icores at any time or a mini-LED?

It's all speculation and considering Intel has had so many delays with their CPU's its anyones guess.

Intels 10th Gen Ice Lake CPU's bases on their 10nm process are only available in lower power forms so no good for the 16inch MBP and there has been no mention when suitable CPU will be available. I don't know of any info on AMD's next GPU's so that info is up in the air and the only possible future rumoured update is the possibility of MiniLED panels.

Apple could continue with traditional Retina panels and make the MiniLED a costly BTO option and currently no big jumps in CPU or GPU performance have been rumoured so I'd say now is a great time to buy a 16 inch MBP.

If you can wait then that will be better in the long run, as you'll get newer components, some of the issues may be addressed and you have more choices.

I wouldn't say people are blowing things out of proportion, but rather people come to a forum to discuss problems so you mostly see a one-sided view of things. The thousands of owners that don't have problems will remain quiet.

With that said, I do think the 16" MBP has some inherent issues:

1. Heat and fan noise when using an external monitor. Other than slowing down the CPU and making other changes will resolve this. There have been some videos out there that have good suggestions for mitigating the issue.

2. Screen quality/ghosting. This also seems like a real problem affecting people, and it seems that apple's choice of panels is of less quality then people come to expect for a 3,000 to 4,000 dollar laptop

3. Coil whine, this seems more like a lottery and it could occur in any model, its a topic that seems to be raised every model year.

4. Battery issues, I see a number of complaints on this, not sure if its software related.

5. Kernal Panics, not sure if its related to the T2, but there seems to be a segment of users dealing with this

6. Wifi performance - I'm largely ignorant of this, but some people seem unhappy about it.

7. Speaker popping issue Apple has promised an update to macOS to resolve this.

All in all, if it were me, I'd hit the pause button, but then I decided to vote on the quality issue with my wallet and buy a PC since when I was ready to replace my 2012 laptop the butterfly keyboard was the biggest headache.

I have experienced absolutely NONE of the issues stated above. NONE whatsoever so I may be one of the few lucky ones if that's the case.

The issue that I DO run into is waking this thing up when connected to my external display with the lid closed. After it has been asleep for awhile it won't wake. I don't have this problem on my MacBook Pro 13" 2018 so it's kind of annoying. Other than that, the 16-inch Mac has been great.

Honestly these forums as of late are just echo chambers of one person having a random issue and everyone piling on. I wouldn’t give them much thought

The 16 inch is the best laptop I’ve ever owned. I absolutely love it and don’t regret my purchase at all.
No they're not. What a silly comment.

You mean everyone has the same problems as I've had?

As I said in post #23, I really like the machine which works well. It's the crappy driver problems which are the negative hygiene factors. And the scratchtastic case.

Would I buy another; yes. It's great -- a thousand times better than the previous version with the crappy keyboard and no escape key (I hate using my wife's 15" machine)

This actually makes me so sad and the fact that they’re still using a 14nm process.. for the comet lake h, if we don’t get at least 10 cores. I would just have to wait a few more years.

Without getting too into the weeds, I think there has just been an increased number of people with repeat incidents creating new threads. For a while, that ruined the MacBook Air board.

Very true. Many members (mostly new ones) start a new thread on a subject that has been discussed at length many times. Research seems to be a lost art these days.

Thanks for all the responses~ Went ahead and purchased the 2.3 GHz i9 with 16 GB ram and 1 TB storage. Paid $2,299 ($500 off) new~ Can’t wait to start using it!

good decision. I will back up what others have said on here and it is a great computer. I am happy with mine and it never ceases to amaze me how quick it is. I have no regrets on my purchase.

Absolutely. I will attest to the fact that my 16" is trouble free. Got it at launch and it's been awesome. You will love using it.

If I visited this forum before buying my 16" (and I'm glad I didn't) I likely wouldn't have due to the amount of complaints.

I'm incredibly happy with mine. I had some kernel panics early on but those have disappeared with software updates. I upgraded from a 2014 15" and I couldn't be happier. The lack of ports and high CPU temps on the 2019 16" are a step backwards from the 2014 15" but the 16" is a significant improvement everywhere else. I loved the 2014 trackpad and the 2019 is even better. Keyboard is great, screen is amazing, CPU is fast, AMD GPU is fine but I miss Nvidia/CUDA libraries.

I think many of the complaints are blown out of proportion and make it seem like there are a disproportionate amount of issues that really don't occur very often out in the wild.

Strange view. You should visit and use it to make an informed decision. I’ll wager there are quite a few that wished they’d did and escaped the keyboard issue.
