Ghosting is really terrible on my machine (December built), causing motion sickness when focussing on texts while scrolling. @StolenPhone, do you know if they solved this issue in recent shipping models? The reason I ask is because I visited an Apple store a few weeks ago and I checked the demonstration model to see if it had the same smearing effect when scrolling though text websites. It may have been my imagination but it seemed that this model didn't have any smudging, which is odd as I read in this forum all screens are subject to the same type of ghosting. Not sure what to believe now and if there has been an update to the panel or some panels or worse than others. Anyway, I have Applecare, do you think 'ghosting' is enough reason to get a new model using Applecare?
Here is the ghosting on mine. It looks far worse IRL.

Wow that is bad... Just followed your example to check my screen and it does not do what yours does... thankfully.
That is a relief. Do you mind recording doing the same so I can send to the tech support tonight? Hopefully can get my screen replaced.

Just recorded it and watched back. It's the same as yours.... I think maybe the filming of it is exasperating it... IRL when I look at the screen and sling the window about there is very little ghosting! Confused!

Maybe I'm just not sensitive to it....?

Huh that is weird.. But good for you that you don't notice it.
Mine looks more worse IRL than the video.

@randomgeeza Have you tried scrolling white text (fine small font) on a black background? This way you should be able to notice the smearing effect.

It's hard evaluate the issue you're experiencing with a handheld video that's out of focus the entire time.

ETA: now that I upped the quality I can see the ghosting a little more clearly. I still think the video makes it look worse, but my machine does not smear like that.

I can see some ghosting going on when I move the window like done in the video. But tbh... who does that normally. I never noticed ghosting IRLC, but maby thats because I don’t use dark mode OS (?). Because to me, the ghosting seems to be a lot (!) worse when using dark mode....

Yeah it is not 100% focused all the time but it is truly Blurry IRL so the video represent quite good while stuff moves around on the screen. That is the motion blurr effect you see that my eyes pick up.

Ghosting is indeed there on the 16" model, at least compared to the pre 2016 models it is definitely noticeable now and shouldn't be the case if you know that older models had better screen response times. I would just like to know if there is anyone who can say that he/she doesn't observe any severe smearing when scrolling white text on a black background on the 16" model? I tried this on my 'old' MBP retina and no noticeable smearing. When I do this on the new 16" you can immediately see the difference (a lot of smearing). It feels like a (big) step backwards for an otherwise great machine.

All i'm saying is I don't really see anything worse than any other computer or monitor I have tried this on, and from you video I don't see anything severe.
I just compared with my Macbook pro 13" from 2015. That one also got some trailing/smearing but it is to an acceptable amount that it does not bother you.
If I do the same tests with both just dragging a window around, scrolling on this macforum with dark background and white text. The smearing or trailing on the 16" looks like the ghosting effect is doubled compared to the old one.

Right now the feeling is like I have just bought a brand new car from a dealership, everything works good and the performance is great. But the windshield makes everything smudgy when the car is moving. You could have it that way, but it is dragging the overall experience way down.

I tried watching an action movie scene with a lot of fast motion on my computer and it looked fine. What else am I supposed to do? I don’t read text while I’m scrolling - wtf? I stop scrolling to read text. I don’t drag windows around in little circles, I don’t take photos of my laptop screen. None of those are real uses, they’re just ways to see a problem that isn’t there unless you look for it. I never notice ghosting. The display on my 16” looks excellent to me and this would be at the bottom of my list of things to change about my MacBook Pro. There are plenty of software issues with Catalina, that and the Radeon card overheating are of much greater concern than something that will never even make itself known unless I go looking for it

The thing is dragging windows around is to show what the blurry effect is. I'm not sitting and dragging circles all day in normal use of course. And I'm also not reading text while scrolling. But the blurry effect when you scroll or move **** around is making some people here very uncomfortable (and me slightly nautious). Glad for you that this is not an issue that you consider a great deal.

But I have not noticed that the graphics card is overheating on my unit so for me that is a problem that I consider is on the bottom of my list. And of course I will not go looking for it because I have not noticed it. You see that you and I are not so much different know maybe?
