Yesterday I bought this exact configuration with the 512 GB. It has all that I need for desktop use. rMB M7 is my carry around.
the reality is that either is a (relatively) modern and capable (if expensive) machine that will perform well. the thing is always about looking ahead 3 or 4 years. USB-C/TB3 will eventually take over. it is a mess right now (and I don't know that I'll ever get over the loss of MagSafe) but will be ubiquitous soon enough and not having it will be a limit.
these new machines are part of a transition. they abandon the past but don't quite fulfill the future. I'd suggest waiting for the update, likely coming by mid 2017 when the full AMD RX GPU and Intel Kaby Lake CPU line is out and (at least some of) the inevitable issues have been addressed.
