MBP 2021 16" keeps waking up external LG display

I did get it working (most of the time). I turned off the display Smart energy savings + deep sleep mode. As well as removing the display as a networking interface on macOS. I also reenabled the screen saver.

I couldn't pin point exactly what got working but I followed most of the advices on this thread.

I think the problem is related to either network or (most probable imo) charging. As someone pointed out even though the display is off, is still feeds electricity to the Mac…
 
Hi guys.

This was happening to me too with my brand new LG 27UP85NP-W.
If I choose Apple-Lock Screen I have the issue everyone is talking about - Mac screen goes full black and LG monitor too but after a few seconds the monitor lights up and stays like that.
If I choose Apple-Sleep the behaviour is the same but on the LG monitor a message appears "No signal - entering power save bla bla" and indeed it goes to sleep!!
Still this is not ideal because I need my Mac to stay awake rendering in Adobe Media Encoder with the screen locked/off and the Sleep option cancels the render. 🙁

Yes exactly.

I also found that the screen saver helps. Instead of Apple-Sleep try setting a corner to launch the screen saver. I have the computer to display sleep after 20 min. And it works.

Probably it will help, the issue for me was in programs that have access to the microphone and/or camera. E.g. when I had a call with Zoom and Zoom after that was working (not closed) - the monitor woke up constantly, if I closed Zoom - the monitor slept fine. The same with Slack. If I have at least one call with Slack - the monitor will not sleep, but if I just restart it - the monitor will sleep. I have MBP M2 Pro Max and monitor connected via HDMI.

I recently upgraded from a 2019 MacBook Pro with Intel i9 processor to a 2023 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 processor.

My LG 27UD58P-B 4K 27" display is now doing this - it will wake/sleep repeatedly all night long. I'm using a Caldigit TS3+ hub (which I used on previous intel machine successfully).

I've tried USB-C to DisplayPort cable and a normal full size Displayport cable - either cable have this issue.

I have another LG display connected - 27UL550-W - which does not exhibit this issue.

It seems related to the new Apple Silicon Macs.

I thought a hub would solve that issue, which seems to me related to charging from USB-C. But if you are using a hub, then the hub must be charging the Mac. Are both displays connected in the same way to the hub (USB-C or DisplayPort) ? Have you tried with only the 27UL550-W connected to the hub, and does it reproduces the issue ?

The fix for the moment seems to use either the screen saver or Sleep (not Lock Screen).
 
I wouldn't want to scream "Victory" too early… but 14.1.1 seems to solve my issue !!!
 
I have the same issue on my 16 M3 Max with a Samsung Odyssey G5 ultrawide and running 14.1.1. I am using a Belkin Thunderbolt 4 dock with the monitor connected to it via usb c to display port cable. The external display wakes up randomly and goes to sleep because it doesn’t receive a signal.

That didn't do it for me 🙁

Still happening to my two different setups total 4 monitors (LG, Samsung, BENQ), no exceptions (unless connected via the HDMI port).
When connected through a thunderbolt dock, macbook wakes up the dock first, then two monitors both light up and show "no signal". The same if one monitor is directly connected via a usb-c to DP 1.4 cable.

My current workaround is to set "Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off", so macbook is always awake and stops the spam.
 
Got the new Macbook Pro Max M3 and never had this problem with this setup:

LG 27uk650-w, USB-C
+
Dell 24", HDMI.

Switched the Dell to another LG (32UL950-W), USB-C, and start having this problem. Monitor keeps waiking up.
And worst: yesterday I couldn't sleep the mac. I turned sleep and it just flashed and keep on. On the 4 ou 5th try it start sleep mode.

The monitor has two USB-C on the back, may be change to another port will solve the problem? Will try out today. Noticed the problem only yesterday.
 
i wonder if this screen wake issue occurs on the Apple Studio Display too
 
While the display issue was solve on my Air M1, I had some issue with a Pro M3. Haven't investigated much though.
