It looks like it belongs on an overpaid executive's desk and not something for serious work to be done on. It does have great tech though although i'm skeptical of how reliable they'd be in the long run.

i really dont think it looks that bad. simplistic and (seemingly) well put together. if i didnt have an mbp i'd rock it.....with ubuntu

"Wireless charging" is kinda only a gimmick at best.

The induction requires the computer to stand on pad to be charged and it's less effective than direct connections.
It's like them electrical toothbrushes :D

MagSafe is faster, more convenient and more effective than induction (yet).

Love the idea with the Latitude ON feature. Mobile processor just for email/web is quite nice - especially the battery power you will get out of it. That's really innovative of Dell.

Technically The MBP really has no competition. If your in the market for a mac, obviously any other computers become insignificant. If someone is looking for a computer in general, than yes, there obviously is some competition.

I think everyone is missing the point and just focusing on the looks. Some of the technology is really awesome.

Wireless charging
Wireless connection to display and USB
Touch sensitive screen bezel
Always on connection, even when your laptop is closed

I wouldn't mind having some of those tech in my MBP.

Thats all great technology, Well some of it anyway. But our MBP's have optical drives, the dell does not. It has a terrible Processor. The highest you can go is 1.6ghz. Thats terrible for a laptop like that, and on top of that, It has a terrible graphics card.

The tech is interesting. I would like some of these features (including the onboard scanner), but the computer itself is just an overpriced netbook upgrade. The inductive charger is an extra 400 dollarunies, and the starting price is 2gs. It seems the original sale of the computer lacked any mainstream operating system.
This is the part that kicked me in the face though,

"Data is not synced between Latitude ON and your data on the SSD."

The pinnacle feature of the laptop is its "latitude ON" functionality, which requires a completely different operating environment to work with.

I like the direction its going, but I can't really see this as a threat to a MBP, let alone a MBA.

I have to agree... Sad to say, there really is no direct competition for the MBP.

Some cool technology handcuffed by Windows and Dell's lousy support.

James

When's the last time Apple went to your house and fixed your computer for you? Dell does this. Or sent you replacement hardware in advance along with a pre-paid box with which to send your faulty hardware back in, so your downtime is dramatically reduced? Dell does this. Any examples of "lousy support" you have to back your claims?

yeah, who needs dual drive, BD writers, and quad core rigs? not me right!? I guess some folks stand by NO OSX no sale, i would rock whatever gave me the most features for the money. I would rock WIN7 in a heart beat and never skip a beat.

I have to agree... Sad to say, there really is no direct competition for the MBP.
