MBP M1 not getting gigabit wifi speeds?

My internet plan is only 500/25 so I can't test if I would actually get these results real world, but my M1 MacBook Air negotiates the full 1200mbit/s when im in the same room as the router (and dosen't drop much when I go to adjacent rooms)
And I get the full 500mbit/s in speedtests

The wireless diagnostics are also useful - ignore the diag window and drop down the Window menu option to access other useful utils like wifi scan, performane, sniffer, etc

Nice. I’m currently using a few Apple AirPort Extreme AC units, each with a gigabit ethernet backhaul. After shutting down my guest network, which really never got used, I can get up to 450Mbit/sec over wifi (1.2Gbit service to the house).

That’s actually improved from ~300Mbit I was getting with the guest network active. I’m thinking it was causing some channel crowding or something.

Ah! Can I ask you what you get for wired speeds through the ethernet port on your bridged AC? In other words, what do you get connected via ethernet on the router not connected directly to your ISP?

I'm thinking of replacing my AC with something like the Amplifi HD, but maybe I should just buy a second old Extreme AC?

I don't have a really good way to test, actually. At the moment, I don't have a network-attached SSD (my NAS is all spinning HDDs) to do a good test with. Testing with spinning HDDs won't be useful. However, via my Mac and/or PCs connected via ethernet, get internet speeds of 940+ Mbit/sec (I currently have 1.2Gbit service to the house), all without appearing to disrupt other internal network traffic (Sonos, 5 continuous-stream Nest cameras, etc.). So I know that the gigabit ethernet network in the house can carry pretty close to practical data speed limits; thus the Airports' gigabit ethernet ports don't seem to be a significant bottleneck.

Now, while it may seem useless to have 1.2Gbit (theoretical peak) to the house when the network inside the house is limited to 1.0Gbit (theoretical peak), the cable modem conveniently has 4 ethernet ports. One is connected to my main gigabit switch for virtually everything in the house, and another connects directly to the Cisco Meraki hardware VPN device I need for my work PC, dividing it into two separate network segments. The VPN is provisioned for about 300Mbit/sec (max. I can get from work), so I'm able to get essentially full performance service out of my hardware work VPN, plus gigabit service for the rest of the house without one impacting the other. Works out great. And I've seen 900+ Mbit/sec speeds from the general house network while still getting around 300Mbit/sec off the VPN simultaneously (later at night, of course, when the rest of the neighborhood cable service isn't saturated, too).

Did anyone re-test their speeds here after Monterey?

My 2020 M1 MacBook still running Big Sur does 700Mbps.
My 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro running Monterey does 400Mbps.

Both sitting right next to the router.

It's irritating.

I can't get my M1 Air to connect to 1200 Mbps no matter what even tho the AX router is only 2 meters away.
It used to connect to 866 Mbps couple of days ago but since then it's always at 600 Mbps which equals to about 415 Mbps in real world tests.
NSS is always 1. 🤔

I would makenthat 5GHZ channel around 139 or higher and then you'll get the speeds!

My router (RT-AX88U) doesn't allow channels above 128 (probably country specific restriction) and even on these "high" channels the Air can't connect, looks like they're full of noise (or airport/weather radars or whatever).

I managed to connect the Air M1 to ISP's 802.11ac router at 866 Mbps and it's using 2 spatial streams there. I'll switch to ISP's router for LAN and get a good Aruba AP or something for 802.11ax WIFI, don't need two routers anyway.

If that happens again then I would consider getting a good router like the new Synology RS660ax might be better buy!

Likely the channel it was on originally had interference from another nearby router or device.

Nope, I'm alone on these 5 GHz channels, 99% of the people in the building are still using 2.4 GHz.

Default settings have most of the features disabled but it works full speed. As soon as I change pretty much anything WIFI related the speed drops so I decided to leave it as it is. I'm using that AP for 802.11ax only and the ISP router's AP for everything else (b/g/n/ac).

Hey guys - trying to troubleshoot why my M1 MBP isn't pulling the gigabit speeds my router is supposed to put out. On an ethernet connection it gets there (~900mbps) but am getting ~400mbps sitting next to it on wifi.

Not that 400mbps is a big deal, but just would like to understand why considering the MBP supports 802.11ax which should support 1,300mbps?

Do you have handoff and Universal Control enabled? If so, disable it and retest.

You are testing two different systems (M1 and M1 Max) on different OS'es.
You cannot conclude that this is a Monterey issue.

I did not have Big Sur on my M1 14" as it comes with Monterey pre-installed.
But I can confirm it can reach between 700 and 800 Mbps with a good signal:
