I have the same speaker buzz noise coming from the right side. I took it to the apple store and they said this is a normal sound. I will try again and take it to another store. Maybe it is a normal sound? Does anyone have a silent MBP?

The one im typing this on now has this noise, but the one i had before it that i got replaced because of yellowing, i never noticed it. The store also told me its normal but i really dont believe them because i think its the right fan. I put on fan control to test this out, and when i turned the fans to spin about 300RPMs faster and the sound on the right changed to a slightly louder and slightly higher pitched sound, so i really think its the right fan thats messed up.

RE: all people with a 'buzz' sound coming from the right side of the keyboard

this is not a specification, it's broken..

no matter what sales people say when you return it; it's broken!
as I stated earlier; mine was declared 'dead on delivery'..
if you can; compare to another version side by side to convince them..

my new replaced MBP 2.4 is totally silent :)

Do you guys get a weird buzzing sound from the MBP when you plug in headphones? I seem to get this sound when headphones are plugged in but I do not notice any noises when it's just the speakers/no headphones. It's still normal I'm assuming for the Penryn MBP like the SR MBP?

just checked.. it's a 00009C83

so what does that say?

Thats supposed o be the good one....

Ok im taking my MBP into another apple store to see if they arent stupid enough to say this is normal.

Question: if they offer me a replacement and say if i just want a refund would i still have to pay a restocking fee for a refund even if they are offering a replacement? Hypothetical of course.

Oh and since im going to a different apple store than the one where i bought it from, do i need my receit or can they just scan the barcode on the box and get the info?

No telling on the restocking fee. They don't need a receipt but it couldn't hurt to have it. Looking forward to your update - I have the exact same issue so I'm seeing how your situation pans out before I take mine in.

If you havnt seen my earlier post in the thread, the apple store i bought it from said it was normal even though their display model didnt have it, so im hoping the 2nd apple store in my area doesnt say the same thing.

I just came back from the apple store and they replaced mine with a new MBP:) The annoying fan noise is gone. The apple guy told me the fan was not aligned correctly and that was the cause of the noise. So he went ahead and migrated all of my information from the noisy MBP to the new one.

Good luck to the rest of you who have this problem.

I too had my new 2.5 replaced today. Guy took it in the back (where it was quiet) and came back a few mins later and said he understood why I wasn't happy. My new one is MUCH better. It might be perfect but I think I might hear a slight buzz from the right side. I may be hearing something too - my wife doesn't hear anything.

Ya im taking mine back to a genius at a different store tommorrow, i still cant believe that the geniuses at the initial store were so stupid. I mean the guy was trying to run that little app that gives your processor something to do, you know the fix to all the Core Duo processor whine even though that was a long time ago. I know it has to be the fan because i installed fan control to see if it was the fan and when i made the fans move faster the sound got slightly louder and changed to a higher pitch just as the fans were moving to higher speeds. So if the geniuses try to pass this off as normal i have my trump card :)

So what do you guys think i should do? Take it back and hope the another Genius will actually exchange it because this is very annoying. Refer to my post above to know what im talking about.

Take it back and either print out this thread or tell them to refer to it whilst they are looking at your Mac. You would at least have some verification that you are obviously not alone in experiencing this.

Anyone having trouble on any special order "15" or on any"17" ? Did everyone that is having a problem purchase their computer at an actual physical Apple Store or did some of you purchase yours on-line?

I believe i have this problem too, quite annoying. Do I just bring it into a mac genius? Or do I need to schedule an appointment over the phone? I do have applecare..

Im not sure if they let you schedule an appointment on the phone. I might be thinking of 1 on 1 training but idk. You can schedule an appointment by going to apple.com and in the search bar type in "Genius" and youll see the Genius bar pop up and you can set you appointment there.

UPDATE: Well i went to the 2nd apple store today to see what they say about the buzzing and of course the girl said "it was withing spec" but she actually let me get a refund and she waived the Restocking fee luckily for me. She did annoy me a little though because i asked her something about dead pixels but i cant remember what exactly, and then she unleashed this little tidbit of comedic gold on me "Most LCD's tend to have 2-3 dead pixels, and its very common" and im thinking to myself is she serious? Even the guy next to me at the genius bar looks at me and tells me that is flat out wrong. I mean i guess i missed the day that Marijauna was legalized because she had to be on something to honestly tell me that most LCDs have 2-3 dead pixels. I almost feel sorry for the people who dont know much about computers and go to the genius bar because some of these geniuses just arent so smart at all.

I plan on ordering a MBP 2.6 15" with 7200HDD online to replace it.

I have this too, on my 2.5 Penryn. My 2.2 Merom didn't have it.

Slight constant buzz coming from the right side.

Are they all like this then? Should I get someone to check the fan out or something? Don't want to replace it as it'll take 2+ weeks probably (CTO), and apart from that, it's mostly fine.

I have the buzzing right fan and a yellow bottom 1/3 screen. My screen is the glossy samsung 9c83. I'm giving Applecare one chance to get it right (I bought BTO). If my replacement isn't up to par, I will get a refund and buy another brand. Its depressing to find that Apple isn't top quality anymore...

some people shouldn't have said their MBPs were working "silently" to confuse others - working silently only applies to iPhone.

Im glad to hear that this is a fan issue and not a CPU whine issue.

Its a cheap component that apple can rectify quickly if they choose to admit it.

Im thinking of buying the new MBP so im gonna go to a few stores and check them out for this noise. I hope the noise is not there!!

I am having some doubts. My new MBP doesn't make a constant buzz but when I start playing a game then it starts buzzing after a bit, on the right side. It keeps on buzzing for a while and then it stops. Then starts again, then it stops. This sounds like it's normally a fan, but it's a bit louder than I'd expect, should I worry?

Please help me,

-Prisca
