I am having some doubts. My new MBP doesn't make a constant buzz but when I start playing a game then it starts buzzing after a bit, on the right side. It keeps on buzzing for a while and then it stops. Then starts again, then it stops. This sounds like it's normally a fan, but it's a bit louder than I'd expect, should I worry?

Please help me,

-Prisca

No thats just your fans kicking up alot higher in speed to deal with the extra heat. As long as your not hearing a constant "buzzing" sound when your doing nothing or just on the internet its fine. The GPU and CPU when playing games actually use all of their strength and create alot more heat than just going on the internet and thats why you hear the fans kick way up higher in speed.

I bought my MBP last Wednesday and it was buzzing. I couldn't deal with it anymore and took it back Saturday and they exchanged it for a new one. The new one doesn't buzz but it slightly warmer when on AC Power.

What exactly does this buzzing sound like? Mine has a deep hum which seems to come from the right fan, wouldn't exactly call it a buzz. There's also more vibration than seems normal but I can't really tell if it's the fans or the drive, it almost feels like the center of the vibration is near the back middle (15" 2.6GHz, 200GB 7200rpm HD).

Seems to me only the 15" (penryn) models are having this issue and not the 17." Thank god I'm about to buy the 17" led model hi res.

oh noes, another problem...god, i guess i will never end up buying my mbp..everyday, a new annoying problem comes up :(

haha you do realize that 85% of the posts on here are people who have problems with their computer, and the amount of people on this board must be like less than 1% of all Macbook Pro users anyway.
What do YOU do when something breaks? Post it on a forum to see what other people did in your situation, right?

So don't worry so much about it. MBP's are pretty solid machines. All my friends who have them (old or new) haven't had any problems. I on the other hand have had lots, which is why im here :). And coz you guys are chill.

So don't stress and press the "order" button. :D

My new Penryn mbp has a slight hum/buzz coming from the right side fan. On the left side all I here is air moving. My old 2.16 mbp was almost silent. I still have a day or so to get it replaced as a doa. However, my screen is perfect no yellowing. Is it worth getting it replaced for the buzz, even though I may end up with a worse screen? Or should I wait and send the fan in for repair?

thanks,
Dan

without a doubt get it REPAIRED not replaced, the screen yellowing is like a toss up. Although out of the 3 MBP's ive had over the past 2 weeks, 2 have had the yellowing, and 2 have had this speaker buzz, so im wondering wtf is going on.

Well, that's IF you can get it repaired. I've had mine "looked at" twice by a "genius" and it's always in-spec. I think mine has buzzed a little less since I used smcFancontrol to spin the fans at maximum speed for awhile. I'm pretty convinced that the right fan is installed slightly tight and that is causing the buzzing. Or maybe I'm just slightly used to.

No i know what you mean, when i took it to the "genius" bar they told me it was within spec also lol.

Oh God.

My second new Mac in the past 4 months.

My iMac had a faulty hard drive fan which had to be replaced.

Now it seems that this new MBP has the same buzzing sound that you guys are describing.

I can just hear my father now,
"What? Again?! I thought you said Macs were good machines! I can't believe I have to take you to the store now, ask your mom."

Hi!

I am guessing this little more notorious buzz from the right speaker is more any kind of design issue.... Let's think a little... From the several MBP take apart sites, We can see that both fans are equal, so, why should only the right fan have this slight buzz????

I think it is mounted in a different position related to the left fan, and that causes it to have a slight more noticeable operating noise...

If you check youtube, you can hear how does a malfuntioning fan sounds!

And it is way a different sound!

An if you gently press the I, O, P or L keys, that sound should be notoriously reduced, so, I guess it should be some kind of vibration produced by the fan operation!

I'd say, enjoy your MBP! if we keep on looking for slight issues, they'll certain be there!

PS: I too have that slight noisier right fan....

I hear a slight buzz as well but i have to be really close to it. How noticeable is the buzz for those who took it back to the store and got a replacement?

I had a problem with the fan noise on the right side of the keyboard. I brought my MBP into an Apple Store on 6/4 morning and got a call on 6/8 evening saying that it was fixed and ready to be picked up. They replaced the right fan and all is well.
