just got off the phone with them. they gave me a case #, and I have to go back to my local Apple store, which is a 30 minute drive and they'll replace my case, but not the screen.
ugh

Replace the case huh? Since it's on the display back, they'll probably save money and time by replacing the whole shazzam, which means a new panel...

I really want to go back and get the case replaced, but at the same time I don't think I want to deal with those mac geniuses ever again.

Be happy about it; I think it's more than likely they'll replace the whole display part which includes a new panel. Trust me I don't like to see the Mac Geniuses either.

I hope they do, but I really think that they are just going to replace what they said they would.

Great! I found more defects on my MBP after the Apple store trip.
The top case is not aligned right and there's a gap between the top part and the base.

It looks like one of the clips didn't engage.

Try squeezing the two (top and botton) sections together putting a little back pressure on the top part. This may "snap" it together.

Otherwise go back to the apple store and have them fix it. Before you leave the store, check the entire Mac for any other defects.

If you want to do it yourself, here is a link to a video. Click on the Hard Drive Upgrade Tab and just select the MBP from the list:

try going back. If you complain enough they may replace it. Parts replaced have a 30 day warranty for a "repeat service".

also, I believe Apple remanufactures their LCD panels. You don't get a new one, or at least from what I saw when I replaced one yesterday.

Curious... what did you discover?

I applied some pressure to it, the clips engaged but now it looks a bit bent. Oh well

I just got a screen replacement on my MBP. Everything is fine, but there's a tiny dead pixel couple of inches away from the middle on the right side. It's especially seen on white backgrounds.
It's hard to spot, but once spotted I can't stop staring at it. It's very annoying. So am I pretty much screwed, since I doubt they'll replace it?

I having the same problem on mines, is not really that ad because it look like dust on the screen but afterwhile i tend to stare at it and it get worse. (get really annoying. I am going to return it on friday since I got it on tuesday.

Yeah I know what you mean. I really feel like they gave me a defective display on purpose. How many stuck pixels do you have?
Good luck having it replaced!

so the lady on the phone told the apple store to replace your case? what if the people at the store get mad at you for tattling on them and making them fix your computer? will they hold a grudge against you?

I have one which is red but u rarely notice it until you look into the screen, I just dont know this really sucks. I should expect better from apple since we paying a good amount of money for their products.

As much as i hate to say it but i don't think price is a guarantee of quality, not these days anyways,a good friend of mines dad just bought a new BMW that cost £47.000 and that had to go back on a couple of occasions for minor issues. Your right though you should expect better but unfortunately lemons slip through quality control

whoops, forgot about this thread.

but i noticed the LVDS cable didnt look "new" per say, as if it had been creased/taped before. Also they used masking tape to tape everything down...just the way they packaged the LCD led me to believe its probably just a new panel inside a returned clamshell from another computer repair.

is BMW expensive in where ever your from?
I really hate seriously, especially if they're giving you a hardtime for it. I'll call up tonight and make an important and see what's up with the laptop.

That's how mine is. It's kind of at the top so it's not that noticeable, but it's bugging me. I agree, we paid a premium price and got a crappy service instead.
The fact the very 1st screen my MBP came with was absolutely dead pixel free, but it had other problems that weren't that big once you think about it makes me very angry. I shouldn't have gotten a replacement in the first place. Now I'm stuck with an even more screwed up screen.
