Is this guy crazy??

He must have a death wish. This must be planned. But if it is real, it makes me very angry that it was McGraw hill that spilled the beans.

^^^^^^You forgot the fact that the tablet does more than just gaming. What about newspapers? I'm sure jobs will get nyt and others on stage

I said App Developers, generic for whoever has content on....Yeah should have said content publishers/developers. That's a my bad.

I hope no double-pay

Did you want a 3rd OS? Start all over and forget the foundation of the app store?

I hope they aren't going to try to make us double pay for apps now. For example, I bought Logmein and Civilization for my iPhone...will I have to spend that money again to have those apps on my iPad? If that's the case then I will be annoyed that the iPad runs on iPhone OS because if it was MacOS powered I could just install my apps there without double-paying. Even Adobe allows you to have their (Creative Suite) software installed on a main computer and a laptop. Come'on Apple don't screw me!....

iPhone OS = NO BUY.
You must have more money than sense. If you really think Snow Leopard or any other desktop OS works well on a tablet, waste your money on one of those third-party mod books. iPhone OS is OS X with a different interface and lower CPU requirements.

The reason why tablets have failed so far is because of the software. You just don't get it.

You lack imagination and the capability to think outside the box.

If you think that it will be just an reader you are going to be in for a surprise!

Guys

If you think that this guys tole SJ's thunder then you probably think that the "Canvas" (I hope they call it that) is just going to be an ebook reader!

SJ would not have spent so much time waiting to perfect this one if it was not a truly cross-over device!

You can already put any app on multiple iphones/ipod touches (if they all use the same itunes account). Since the tablet runs iphone apps, you should be able to put your apps on there as well. However, the developers may charge you for new versions that are optimized for the tablet (i.e.: take advantage of the higher resolution, new UI paradigm, etc.). Since creating those apps will obviously take some amount of work, and since you paid $0.99-$9.99 for your iPhone apps in the first place, it seems fair for developers to charge if they have to do a bunch of work to create the new versions.

This is going to be classic tomorrow!!!
Look forward to all the posts by unhappy folks who's heads will implode when the new product is not what they expect.

Me. I'm just in it for any iLife/iWork updates if any. :)

Let's get more than an expensive PDF reader

My only worry is say the iTablet dies (perhaps dead batters and AC adapter doesn't work or you drop it), what would one do then for their classes as all their books are on the tablet? You'd be pretty screwed. Honestly, the only way I'd feel entirely safe is if I could use the books on my tablet, iPhone, and Macbook Pro. I know that he said it would be available on the iPhone but could you imagine doing all your work/studies off of an iPhone screen while you try to scrounge up money for a new tablet?

I really hope that Apple takes ebooks to a whole 'nuther level. I like the idea of getting your school books digitally...it will get rid of a lot of hassles. However, I don't want to pay $150/book for a glorified PDF. I want to see interactive content, rotatable/scalable 3D models, videos, audio, etc. They have an opportunity to take educational materials to the next level...I hope they do it.

Well, I would want the ebook to be more interactive. For instance, one could be reading along and jot down a note for a specific sentence/paragraph/section or just new ways to interact with the book like one does now but that makes it more organized.

Doubt it

Probably not. iPhone OS and probably not a full on Mac.

Tomorrow we will be saying, "Who cares?"

I don't expect this to be along the lines of the intro of OS X, Intel Macs, iPod, or iPhone. This tablet will probably be the best out there, but with iPhone OS, unless it's a very different version of that OS, makes this sound like a big PDA.

I was hoping this to have OS X.

I predict that the tablet will be called the iPad.
it will be an e reader, and media player, but it will also be a track pad for your Mac bringing multi touch to every mac it is plugged into, and making multi touch to computing and replacing the mouse and keyboard. Also with a display it will be multi function bringing up pallets for apps as you switch between them.

finally you will be able to run applications on your remote mac through screen sharing and will be able to access all your data on a Mac via Back to my mac.

It is going to change how we work with our data and how we access our data. The table will be the window on your data, you will not be able to live without it in 3 years.

this will be the biggest thing Steve Jobs has done. Bigger than GUI and bigger than the mouse, and bigger than a portable media player.

LOL. The free books isn't what jacks up the price. It's a controlled supply and a captive audience. Electronic books will be only cheap enough to ensure that the used book market dies. Then they'll jack the prices back up.

Actually it will significantly lower the bar to competition which ultimately will be a good thing.

+1

And once again we get the "it needs to run OS X" --> "iphone OS is OS X" loop.

That's why I wish (who knows, maybe it will) it could dual boot. Both worlds, less problems (because we all know there will be someone complaining no matter how good it may possibly be).

This would actually be good. Any student who can't manage to keep their iPad from failing deserves to fail. Thus this would help instructors and institutions of higher learning seperate the wheat from the chaff. Everyone thinks they are qualified to get a college education these days. Which is not the case.

So time to start thinning the herd. Seems a good place to start with something so easy and simple.

I was actually thinking just the other day. I guess this device/tablet will work with itunes and update same way/fashion that the iphone currently does. I suppose itunes will become like a book store, plus music, movies, tv, games, etc along with everything else that it already does. This got me thinking I hope itunes doesn't explode from internal server shock. That would be messy.

As we get closer to Wednesday this all reminds me of the movie "Chairman of the Board" starring Carrot Top. When Carrot Top has that great idea to design a TV dinner, that already has the TV inside the box. That's what I think we are getting closer to. That little black magic box is coming and it may be closer than we all thought. Soon perhaps we will have once device that can handle everything multimedia and telephone/internet related in one multi-cross platform device. The device to end all multi-tasking.

So, when I saw it's likely iPhone OS based I let out a moan. I guess more than anything I didn't want a big iPhone/iPod Touch. But now after thinking I've decided its a bit early for me to start hating something that hasn't been seen by more than like 30 people.

My biggest complaint with the device if it is just one big iPhone is I really, really want to use this at school and believe it or not, heresy I know, I want a stylus. I like handwriting notes and I in my mind Steve is going to be all like I have this thing way better than styluses, because writing is dead. It's a bunch of spaced letters, that you click, but since the screen is flat it's with no resistance at all. And the letters will be placed in a random order starting with QWERTY and I'll cry as I still blindly hand over 1000 dollars.
