I'm pro ApplePay ( use it on my iPhone and Apple Watch) and I use Android Pay on my Nexus. I love the convenience and simplicity. Opening a separate app and scanning the QR code seemed like a pain, I and I still don't like the Walmart plan. However, I have no issue using the Starbucks app to pay for my coffee. Maybe it's the loyalty points I get at Starbucks that makes me go through the extra steps but I fee somewhat like a hypocrite for hating the QR code method of payment.

Good riddance... Now hopefully walmart pay will fail and these retailers will move to apple pay and the other NFC payment options like they should have done in the first place.

Walmart Pay has been successful so far. And it hasn't been rolled out nationally yet. With the recent expansion to 600 additional stores, they'll use the experiences of customers to have it ready in time for the upcoming holiday season. If anything, it'll encourage other large retailers to come up with their own similar system. So it'll be Apple Pay, Android Pay, Samsung Pay, Walmart Pay, Google Wallet Coin, Target Pay supposedly in the works, etc, etc, etc.

All that money and work wasted for nothing. Not to mention slowing the adoption of contactless payments. Whoever came up with this CurrentC idea should be thrown in the pool. While wearing their most expensive outfit. And their phone in their pocket.

Hey Samsung Pay: take note
I don't understand. Samsung pay is one of the best mobile pay solutions available. I wish both Apple and Android Pay had an MST option. If they did, then I could see Samsung bowing out of that race.

MCX? That was a classic example of obstinate behavior in spite of overwhelming evidence that their idea was terrible.

I can't believe this far along and we're still fighting over payment systems. Even places that DO accept Apple Pay are a pain in the ass half the time. A couple weeks ago at a Dunkin Donuts I used my watch to pay for my purchase and the register spit out a receipt indicating it was paid for. The cashier refused to give me the receipt and immediately called a supervisor to the register who told me I had to use a different payment method because they don't accept Apple Pay "because it doesn't work." I showed them on my watch they the transaction went through and pointed out that the receipt said it was paid. The supervisor continued to try to tell me I hadn't paid for anything and she got on the phone to call the stores owner. I opened the Chase app on my phone and showed her when she got off the phone that the transaction was already pending on my credit card. She still insisted that they didn't get paid but gave me my coffee anyway and informed me that they don't accept Apple Pay and told me to have a nice day. I threw it in the trash and told her I'll get one somewhere else with the line of people behind me watching.

You are both correct. Have a friend who manages a fast food restaurant and explained to me that payment systems will charge your credit card. However, if the merchant's system is not configured, paying for a certain payment card or NFP, the merchant will not get paid. Just plan wrong, needs fixing.

Not necessarily. I mean, most people visit the same grocery store, gas station, etc. on a day to day basis, so it's not like people will need that many apps. Not to mention that a separate app makes it easier to offer rewards and stuff like mobile ordering/checkout, which saves far more time due to not having to wait in line in the first place.

Honestly, Apple Pay doesn't really add much other than a few seconds' worth of time savings. And that might even be questionable in a year or two as chip becomes faster.

you beat me to it

I might have gone along with this convoluted system if the stores shared some of the savings with me. If they gave me at least 1 percent on each scan maybe worth my effort. But, it was all about them, it appears.

That is why the Starbucks scan to pay app works because they build in a "rewards" program by using that payment option.

And it's pretty tightly integrated into iOS too. I don't think I'd bother even with the rewards if I couldn't add the Starbucks card to Wallet.

Given that it's only been available in the US since March I think it's a little premature to suggest it's one of the best.

You are mad at the wrong people. If Apple pay was better, you would be able to say "I want to pay by credit card" and then just tap your iPhone on the reader.

It is Apple that wants to make their own unique brand name (Apple pay) for everything.

Not likely. For many, Walmart is their only choice. The retailer had tens of millions if transactions each with its Walmart app before integrating Walmart Pay. It'll institute rewards later this year, integrated coupons already and Target is next up. And if course, there are tons of people that'll never buy and use an iPhone, so Samsung/Android it is.

As each retailer creates its own version, all that data stays with them and pays dividends in so many ways. One if the supposed benefits of MCX's now dead efforts.
