I have a DP 1.25ghz MDD with 8 1tb drives that i want to raid into a raid 10.

Each set of 4 drives are plugged into a quad sata card that is bootable on mac os.
(i tried the rocketraid 2210's for G5 macs and for some odd reason, those are not bootable in the MDD)

So far everything i have tried has either made the MDD quit responding via usb shutoff, or it just halts and freezes with no user input other than to shut the whole system down.

What i want to do is create 2 striped raid arrays of 4 samsung evo disks (1 tb each) to make dual 4 tb, then i want to mirror those 2 stripes for redundancy.

I have tried using the terminal and at times it tells me that the disk names are incorrect even though i formatted them in disk utility to "01, 02, 03" etc.....

Other times it's telling me that JHFS+ is not a valid formatting structure and that i should use Journaled HFS+ and when i type that in, i get the same damn error.

I tried resetting PRAM, pressing the cuda button, changed the battery, changed the motherboard because i was getting usb controller faults, took out all cards other than video and sata cards and still am not able to make a damn raid 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HELP!!!

In Terminal, run:

diskutil list

Terminal will display a ilst of all attached disks. They will be 'identidified' as disk1, disk2, disk3, etc.

Use this identifier in place of the name that you assigned when formatting the disks.

well, setA worked but setB doing the exact same thing as before, hangs and loss of usb control

ok, i changed out a fan to blow on the underside of the mdd board and i was able to format setB. i think that chip was getting too warm so i swapped out the imac g5 fan for a constant blower fan.

anyways, now when i try to mirror the 2 halves, it screams about the JHFS+IMG_3582.jpeg

ok, it just didn't like the name Hotline Raid, so i shortened it to just Hotline and now it's formatting. then it hung again
