I remember paying $4k or better for my PowerBook Duo 230 with the full dock, monitor, and extra 80MB hard drive in the dock. If it fits the OPs needs then it's the right product for him. Enjoy your new tool good sir.

To the OP... do you have the $14,600 ROM Excercise machine found in Sky Mall?

A custom computer is never cheap, so 2.5k for a computer that light, that fast, and that powerful is a steal. If you needed that much memory, then it's perfect for you. Think of how much it'll sell for if you ever want to sell it too.

a steal???

11" i5 256GB = $1500, OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS.

... oh wait, you mean, like, it's a crime to pay this much for 480GB? ohhhh, okay. we're in agreement.

Here are the results of my OWC Mercury Aura Pro Express 480GB SSD:

Disk Speed Test Program:
Write: 247.0
Read: 267.3

X Bench:
264.51

the purchase also comes with the title of being "damn rich."

Hater's will hate.

it's one thing to spend $1400 to get ~ 200 more GBs. personally, i think that's crazy, (ludicrous!) but oh well.

it's quite another thing, however, to call this a 'steal'.

a steal?

A STEAL?!?!?!?!

don't stop there. tell me a new God lives in this computer that will turn pollution into legal weed that gives you psychic powers and super strength and all the children will have food and i will have a hot date tomorrow night. tell me what all the ghosts know and tell me when and where the future ends and give me the number to my local bookie.

As you can see in my sig I share this madness with the TO

I've got the 256GB first and planned on spending $1000 on a 27" mirror with thunderbolt port

As I use my air a lot on the go and don't need the fancy connectors of the thunderbolt display, I decided to get a cheaper 24" samsung display and spend the money on a huge SSD so I don't have to carry an external with me all the time.....

so for me (and that's just for me), spending that amount of money for a large and fast SSD is a better investment than having a display for $1K.

i am actually wait this setup too...

i am actually wait this setup too... i am waiting for TRIM to be supported with the OWC 480 GB blade SSD... then i am down...

i don't want to lug around an external.. need to have all my crap in one place.

Kudos for your setup.

In 1983 I paid $400 for a single 143 kilobyte Apple floppy drive.
In 1987 I paid about $1200+ for a 60 megabyte external RoDime hard drive for my Mac.

Those dollars were worth a lot more in the 1980's than in 2011, too.

The OP's purchase is hardly extravagant.

see, it's statements like this i find very hard to let pass.

we're not living in 1983. and no one said those purchases weren't extravagant then.

is OP killing old ladies by spending this cash? no.

is this (VERY) expensive? yes. please, let's not pretend it isn't.

If you're arguing that it's expensive to YOU, then sure. I believe you.

If you're making the claim that it's "expensive" in some other sense, then maybe you should define it, because I'm not seeing it.

It's a pointless argument, because it ultimately depends on an individual's finances and their opinions on the worth of money vs the worth of the OP's purchase.

I thought about that point too, but actually I trust the information OWC is providing on its website. so according to that the TRIM support that OS X is currently providing is far worse than the garbage collection of the sandforce controller.....probably that's just advertising but after all the information I gathered from the net I honestly think that TRIM is not needed with the OWC drive.

a $50 gallon of milk is expensive, to me, you, and George Washington's zombie.

SSD space is expensive as compared with HDD space. and the more you get on one stick the higher the price, per GB.

of course someone as rich and powerful as you would never waste their time thinking about these things.

P.S. i just saw that the 360GB stick is on sale for $750 on OWC, for those that care.

So again, you're just stating that what the OP paid for the SSD is expensive to YOU.

Agreed.
