Apple Store in Aventura, Florida was closed today as of around 5pm. When I asked the employee at the front near the entrance, he said "Because of the death of someone in our family". He said they are going to a funeral.

Not sure if this is related to Steve Jobs or not.

No. Steve Jobs already had his funeral on October 7.

Must be a local store employee that passed away then...never seen an Apple store close in the middle of the day like that.

It's weird coincidence that some stores will close on Wednesday to view a live stream of the funeral for Jobs in Cupertino.

There isn't going to be a live stream of the funeral, they had a private funeral for his family. This Wednesday is a memorial service for Apple employees.

But what about this?

That event will reportedly also include a temporary closure of Apple's retail stores to allow employees to view a live webcast of the service.

Not sure anyone here follows Stephen Fry, but he tweeted these yesterday:

The weather here in the Bay Area is gorgeous. A sad event that I am attending, but as much a celebration of a great life as a mourning.

I don't know that there was ever a more beautiful memorial service. Everyone who spoke did so with such passion and love and simplicity.

But what about this?
That's different.

That's a company-wide event specifically for all current employees, just like a corporate all-hands meeting, etc. The intended audience is all current Apple employees.

The intended audience for yesterday's invitation-only event at Stanford were those in attendance. Someone (probably Steve) selected the people on the guest list.

It's not like everyone could see what's going on when Steve and Tim sat down in an office, just like we weren't invited to watch you eat dinner last night.

It seems to me that this all has been handled with dignity and good taste.

Too many funerals, memorials, tributes, and the like are media circuses. Jobs funeral and memorial services were, appropriately, private and intended for family and close friends.

I'm afraid I must disagree with those who want it streamed or otherwise dumped into the public domain. To put it into that context diminishes the dignity of the event. Some things just don't belong online.

Let those close to him grieve in private...

RIP

Too many celebrities want the perks of being famous without the burden. When you put yourself in the public eye, you no longer have the right to complain about a lack of privacy. People wanting such an event to be made public are only doing what they've been trained to do. You can't blame them alone. Celebrities have to take the good with the bad.

I recommend that people read the latest Rolling Stones issue, there is a whole lot about him that you can't find on the internet.

We can replace our iPhones, but we will never replace Steve Jobs.

The stars have shined brighter at night since he left...

Rest In Peace, Steve. :apple:

We will miss your genius and your quest for practical perfection.

3 Great Apples

3 of the greatest :apple:, the one Eve bit, the one that hit Newton in the head, and the one Steve built.

Sounds like a nice memorial and how Steve touched the lives of a lot of people, even among his peers and contemporaries.

It is a shame that all the kind remarks and warm remembrances come after the fact. It's like when you lose a family member and opine that you wished you told them you loved them more often.

Rest well Steve. :apple:

I am still devastated, in shock, and a little fearful, knowing he has gone. I also have such empathy for his family, may they find peace and joy, Rest In Peace Steve, you made such a dent on the universe, so big I feel it in my heart.
