The Sport band makes the 42mm Watches look too big as the sports band doenst lay arround you wrists seamlessly.
Try Any other Band and you will see wat I mean.
In my opinion a man with 160-170mm wrists and a 60mm with should not think about buying a 38mm Watch as the Watches looks really much smaller in real.

EDIT:
And on your last Pictures with the Smaller Band i would say it fits good.
At least a man should wear a to big watch as a watch which looks like a kids or women watch.

The images of the 42mm may look a bit large due to the larger (m/l) band used for the tryouts. For me, this meant using the very last hole, and the resultant excess slack wrapped all the way around my wrist. It looked like I was wearing two bands.

Thank you! I was just wondering that when I tried on the 42mm sport today. I was using the last hole as well, and it still was loose on my wrist. Now, that I think about it, he did say I was using the larger band. When I tried on the 38mm, I wasn't close to the last hole.

I just properly measured my wrist and its 158mm.

Exactly.

Yeah, I had the same complaint. They don't even have any of the S/M bands on hand to try out the 42mm. I ended up putting the white 38mm S/M band on just to see what it looked like without the excess bulk at the top.

In the end, I still prefer the size of the 38mm.

Are these both 38

Ohhh I didn't know the 38 bands could fit the 42. I wish the employee would have told me that today.

So I decided to measure my wrist and it turns out it is about 160mm. I've seen quite a lot pictures in this topic from people with wrist ranging from 155 to 170 mm where the 42mm Apple Watch looked ridiculous on. The 38mm seems definitely a better fit to me.

And yes, I'm aware of the fact that pictures don't show the reality, but I'm sure about one thing: I will not have the Apple Watch to look big at all. In fact, I'd rather have that it's a little too small than a little too big. 38mm seems to be a 'safer' choice. :)

Unfortunately I can't try it out. Two reasons: the closest Apple Store is at least two hours of driving, second (and the most important reason): in my country it's just not possible to try out the Apple Watch. :p

I have just got back from my second viewing of the Apple Watch SS Link Bracelet.

Really helpful guy at Apple..

Please note I have a 170mm wrist.

Included is a picture next to my TAG 38mm Carrara, gives you an idea of the size.

Im sticking with the 38mm as the 42 did look ok but it felt more raised off my wrist and stuck out allot more.

Sorry I didn't get pictures of the 42mm as i new straight away once I had it on it was too big.

I preordered a 38mm, but was worried that it would be too small on my 160mm long wrists. Went to a try on appointment and tried on both the 38 and 42 mm models. Liked how much more "discrete" the 38 was compared to the 42, so I'm sticking with it. :)

Thanks for posting these pictures. I have 160mm wrists and wear a 38mm Movado watch. After reading people's comments about how the 38mm is too small, I feel a lot better about my choice with the pictures you posted.

No problem,I was the same so I had to go and try them on. I walked away happy the 38mm was the correct size for me.

Which one looks better on me? Does the 42mm look OK because that's the one I bought.

I ordered the 38mm SS with link bracelet and I'm so glad I did. After trying them on last night I know I made the right choice. The 42mm looked like a television on my pencil wrists.

Man some of you have some tiny wrists. Had my try on. I was sure the 42 was the 38 till I saw the label on the glass. Both are small. The 38 is tiny tiny.

Ok, I have been sooo torn about the size and I keep going back and forth on it. I didn't decide on ordering a watch until I was able to get my arse to an Apple Store for a tryon experience. I am a very skinny 6'1" with very small wrists. I have never been into "oversized" watches and my current Movado watch I have used for years is actually considered a ladies watch (but it doesn't look feminine on me). But guess what I ordered? A 42mm stainless with a classic buckle. The thing is I really like leather bands and the leather band on the 38 just seemed to skinny and didn't look quite right on me. Yes the 42 is a big jump in watch size from what I am used to, but I think it has a great look on me and I will be interacting with this device much more than any watch I have ever owned, so IMHO bigger is better in my case.

Sorry for the long winded rant. I am just excited that I have made my mind up. June can't come quick enough! :)

I didn't want to admit it...

...but the 42 was the winner for me. I tried them all on. Since I was late in the game, the Apple Store rep was super nice and let me go past the quota. But I have to say, that 38 is no longer an option. It's a serious decision since the only one I would have received on the 24th would have been a 38. But the 42 was just right for me, so I'll wait for it. I liked the SS and the black sport version, btw.

My wrist is 170 mm btw.

I'm glad similar people on this forum were candid as to their discovery. Anyone in my wrist range should think about your choice.

That's a 38mm it looks huge still damn

Btw anyone still measuring wrist circumference that has NOTHING TO DO. Measure width.

I popped into Apple IFC Store in Hong Kong and thought that the 38mm (Milanese Loop looked better on me than the 42mm (Bright Blue Leather Loop). Tried it with the White Sports Band with the 38mm SS (No photo) but did like it... I wasn't keen on White at first. My wrist size is 165mm

Definitely going to stick with my ordered the 38mm SS Milanese Loop with extra Blue Sports Band. Can't wait till 24th April!

I got to try on both the 38mm Sport and 42mm SS yesterday at the local store. What do you think about the sizes of these? My wrists are 170mm around and about 55mm across.

This is the watch I wear today - a 34mm wide Skagen. In terms of width that sits directly between the 38mm and 42mm Apple Watches.

Here's the 38mm Sport with white band. This is the model I have on pre-order based on my initial guess at what would be a good size.

And this is the 42mm SS:

I don't feel that either size looks silly and I probably came away from the store more confused than before! I have quite large hands for my wrist size so perhaps that's one reason why.

A few things I noticed when trying on some watch/band combinations:

  • The SS has a much more noticeable weight to it. In fact, the 42mm SS is approximately twice the weight of the 38mm Sport and it definitely feels that way. That makes me happy with my choice of a Sport model as I'd rather have a watch that's as unobtrusive as possible.
  • I really liked the Milanese loop band. I always found that metal bands of any type pinched and tugged my arm hairs throughout the day. No such problems with the Milanese loop. The links are extremely fine - much more refined than it appears in photos. I could see myself pairing that with the Sport watch for the odd formal occasion.
  • The leather loop is also pretty nice. More flexible than I imagined and the adjustability is great.

I ordered the 38mm Sports on reservation day, went into the Apple Store yesterday to try on a few and was horrified that even on my (very) super skinny wrists the 38mm looked....ridiculous. I've since made an additional order for a 42mm now.

But, this only works with the sports, I tried on the 42mm Milanese loop and THAT looked ridiculous.
