Most decent hotels request that you refrain from going through the hotel and reception or hotel in swimming gear, which I think is a bit like the high street, and to me is infinitely sensible. I do not want to be tucking into my Club sandwich and have some lardy ass in speedos go past.

The right time and the right place, the pool/beach and not elsewhere.

My problem is not with shirtlessnessessesessessings since I don't come across too much of that but my peeve is with too many people wearing flip-flops just about everywhere. The worst is airports. People traveling in them. But also a lot of other places. More gerls than guys but still both. I'm not talking the Jesus sandals or other Teva like gear, I mean the 3/8" foam with split toe flip-flops. How did that become so prevalent in recent years.

And whether it is those or the burlier sandals that show the toes, there are too many (mostly guys but some gerls too) with nastly looking toes/toenails that should not be walking around without socks and shoes on!!

As with any article of clothing, it depends entirely on where you are when you remove your shirt. Each piece of clothing has it's own circle of acceptance should that article of clothing be removed.

At the beach or your own backyard, take your shirt off if you want. At Starbucks or the local Apple store, I wouldn't recommend it..

I travel in them. Hell, I purposely make sure I'm wearing them on an airplane. I love the ease of kicking them off on the airplane once I'm seated. They're even (slightly) easier to take off than my Birkenstocks because of the thin rubber strap. Anyway, I don't know how popular "thongs" are in the US, but they're everywhere in Australia, and I doubt many people here would mind if I wore them here. You can wear them all year round in Australia.

I only go shirtless when I'm alone on the moors. Great place to get a tan and exercise.

Worst are the guys who ride shirtless in cars with the window down and their arm holding the top of the car. What

makes me feel uncomfortable. im a pretty fit person, played sport all my life and go to the gym. its just my opinion and its not like im going to ask them to put a shirt on. i respect that theyre comfortable enough to take off their shirt but i would prefer it if they wouldnt. my family would be the same, so i guess that shows how much im like them.

Why not ask ugly people to wear full face masks? You've no right to judge people like that, Personally I'm a stick thin athletic type, I used to be a little overweight and it's opinions like that that made me feel so epicly low.

Personally I've no problem with nudity, full stop.

I work part time at a business that sells a shoes, among other things. I find that probably 1/2 the people wanting to buy shoes comes in with some type of thong or sandal on, then say "do you have any socks I can borrow?"

If you're fit, why not? However, it's always the obese types who think it's fine to go around without a shirt on

so its only okay if you're good looking?

really, there is nothing wrong with the human body in any shape or form.

No one has stated the obvious yet which is that this kind of thing is culturally based.

Personally I like to keep my shirt on in public, but in my area there is a large Central American population and almost all of the males take off their shirts on the first sunny day of the year and don't put it back on again until the Fall. This seems to be some kind of macho ritual. The guys actually preen and stretch and check each other out and so forth. They walk up and down the main street and hang out in front of the coffee bars doing this and invite "the ladies" to check them out.

Yes, it's old-fashioned, and (lamely) macho and stupid, etc. ... but to these guys, and in their culture it's the coolest manliest thing they can do and it would be foolish to try and stop it or protest over it.

Bottom line is that there should not be *any* laws about what you can or can't wear in public other than basic sanitation laws and common sense. In an ideal world you should be able to walk down the street stark naked and if it bothers someone else, that should be *their* problem, not yours. You might as well just get used to it now and save time.

We live in a body fascist world ;)

But if you don't make the effort to look after yourself, make the effort of putting something on

don't know what fascism has to do with it. but perhaps you meant superficial?

The beach is fine, but that's it. Well, unless you're in Berlin in the summer. But that has to do with more than shirts. ;)

Well, too bad that is has gone downhill over the last couple of years... :(

Anyway though, I think if we were to talk about the other sex going topless, a lot less people would object. :D

This is an odd topic. As others have said, it depends to some degree on where you are. But it also depends on what you are doing. I'd say somewhere recreational, such as a beach, a pool area, or a park, it is perfectly acceptable for a man, particularly a fit one, to be shirtless on a warm day, regardless of what he's doing specifically (could be a BBQ, or relaxing, or hanging out with friends, or exercising). Likewise in your own yard.

Outside of that, in more commercial/urban settings, yeah, its probably out of place to be shirtless - unless you are exercising. At least where I'm from no one thinks twice about a shirtless dude who is jogging, or cycling, even if its near shops and such. But if its a shirtless guy looking in the shop windows or something, yeah, that's pretty weird.

Agreed, it honestly really doesn't bother me, although I'd prefer if full nudity were kept to the beach and pools and such. It would be a little weird walking into a restaurant or shop and having a large bunch of nude people. But toplessness, eh, no big deal, men and women both should be able to take their shirts off, gosh, they're just breasts.

OK ... if a woman can whip her boob out to breast feed during our council meetings then it should be OK for men to remove their shirts anytime .... anywhere!
:D:apple:

I have no problem with nudity in public. Obviously, a privately owned business of any sort can choose whether or not clothing is required.

is a "beater" (basically an under shirt tank top thing for those who refer to it differently) acceptable? cuz im going for a run in a few minutes and its humid and hot as hell out!:p
