I totally agree with you. I bought a SwitchEasy nude and don't plan on getting a free Apple case just to say I got it for free. Apple is a noble company and I'm glad they're still this sane with all this success :D

I would love to return this phone at this point, but it's really hard. After spending certain amount of dollars on accessories and apps, I'm pretty much trap in Apple's hand. Only thing I can think of is to eat the sufferening for a year, turn this iPhone into a iTouch later on and switch to Android.

Btw I had a Eris for awhile, never seens that drop before when I death grip it. Only issue about the Eris is that it's slower than the iPhone 3G.

i'm getting my money back and if you don't feel like send your refund to the first two guys, i'll send you a self addressed envelope :D

Thank God Steve stood up for what's right. And along those lines, I am perfectly happy with my iPhone 4 and the Bumper I bought on Day 1 and don't want Apple's money at all. I wasn't raised to take money I don't deserve. In fact, I'd like them to charge me an additional $29.00 to offset someone else's free case if that's what it takes as a gesture to show Apple how happy we are with what they do for us.

Look what we're doing to Apple. We can't let this happen.

wow you are such a righteous man. The daily struggles you face must be minuscule to this then.

My i4 works fine and now apparently i'm getting a free bumper/case/jiffy bag from apple, so yes, i'm happy :)

Im the same sure I can make my bars drop if I want to but I never hold the phone like that and even when I do I never drop a call. So I guess im getting a free case now.

not at all because they made such a big deal about this phone and its sleek design. i will be most certainly returning the black one for a white one now.

Probably will be a ***** case from Honk Kong or something like that, do you really think they will make 3M cases that will worth something? it's a lot of money.

If you have bought a bumper just to fix your reception then you have every right to accept a refund that you are being OFFERED. Nobody cares about how you were raised if you're going to get on a soapbox and boast about how righteous you are. Talk about a contradiction.

.

I think it's MORE than they should have done.

They had the data. The facts. They are in the clear.

And yet they throw a bone to the rabid iPhone 4 hacks
and arm chair cell phone engineers. I'm impressed.

They should have given out free "GET A LIFE" bumper stickers.

.

how many times do people have to mention that only a few people bought it for $700, AT&T just helps out others. It is still a $700 phone
You're basically paying for the phone in installments when you go with a subsidized plan. Those installments are included in the bill (just not itemized).

Just in case, I'm going to keep checking my local Apple stores to see if I can get a bumper since I'd prefer than over some other case. Then I'll just get a refund!

Be curious to see how they handle this ...

I have a case I bought at AT&T ... no receipt any more as I disposed of it when I knew that the case was fine.

Will they still refund what I spent on the case?

And the answer is ....

Q: Will the refund include third party cases?
A: There's a very small number of third party cases out there. So no.
Q: Well it's interesting, there aren't any cases out there, and it's hard to get cases now. If the third party case buyers can produce a receipt, why not give them one?
Steve: It's really simple, if we tell people what our next product is, they stop buying our current products. Sometimes websites buy stolen property and they get out there... and case makers have a history of showing off their new cases for our new products. The case vendors haven't had a history of helping to keep our work under wraps.

So, in other words, those of us who went out and bought cases - because we were told that would help - are to be punished for Gizmodo's actions?

Having this press conference is worse than not having it!

Steve: "yes we have problems...but so does everyone else."

Then instead of addressing the problem...

Steve: "the problem is minute, less than 1% of users...but we still love you!"

Steve: "free cases for everyone, yay!!!"

?????????

I love the "we love our customers, but we won't fix the ****** phone we made, we'll just give you a piece of plastic to wrap around it"

I think they love their shareholders even more.. and if you're both.. 1 out of 2 isn't bad.

What I think is funny is this.....

The bumper does not fix the problem.

I carry a blackberry 9000 on ATT for work AND an iPhone 4. The blackberry does drop the signal like he showed I have proved it at my home, although it doesnt drop it as much. I think that is the way the blackberry is reporting bars just like how the iPhone reported bars BEFORE the 4.0.1 update.

Bottom line, where I live, which now has 2-3 bars after update, so not a perfect signal (even though ATT website shows me in perfect area) the signal goes down if I hold it the certain way WHETHER I HAVE A BUMPER ON OR NOT.
Blackberry goes down as well, just not as much like the iPhone 4 before the software update.

Im keeping mine.

Ive owned them all from palm years ago to microsoft and I liked the Iphone and iPod so much....

I now own 2 macbook pros (me and my wife) and a time capsule as of a month ago.

Wouldnt go back to microsoft computer for NOTHING, and I have to work on them everyday for Toshiba Medical as a service engineer.
