i just saw an early hands-on video of the prime in the wild.

wow. that is a slim, lightweight, gorgeous machine.

it weighs less than the ipad2, is faster than the ipad2, has more battery life than the ipad2, and will probably cost about the same. impressive.

i doubt i will purchase it, but i am hoping it pushes apple to produce a really cool ipad3.

I hardly touched Flash when I had my Transformer and the experience wasn't great when it was working either.

However, Photon is even worst compared to Android's Flash.

It does look amazing, however, the big BUT is when and if Developers will produce content that utilises the cores. There's hardly any that I know of which do at this time and the way Tegra2 on the Android was a complete joke.

Its only now with ICS that HW is going to be implemented in the OS for better improvement in OS and browser.

The best selling point is the dock and new form factor of the tablet, its perfect.

maybe I am misunderstanding this core thing, but outside of games, does it matter whether developers utilize the cores? isn't the point that if i am reading a document in one app, and i am taking notes in another, and maybe recording something at the same time (actually, this sounds like everyday use for me) then everything will run smoothly/quickly? in the ipad2 i can do all of this ok, but there is noticeable lag in the rendering of pdfs and so forth.

Oh my, if you think the lag in PDF is bad then wait until you try Android:eek:

As for the core aspect the Transformer was a dual core and had a better spec on paper but despite that Honeycomb wasn't a great experience and never utilise the spec to its full potential. Even with all the cores is there any app that will use it at the moment, maybe photoshop when it arrives on Android but its the OS at fault.

Not sure if serious.

Have you actually used one of these things?

They are actually amazing. It's a hybrid laptop + tablet. If you click the tablet into keyboard you basically have a laptop with touchscreen. But you can also remove the keyboard and then you have a tablet.

But I'm not going to buy one though.

LOL. I have seen Flash on Android. Well, when it works i should say. So far, i haven't had any issues using Photon on my iPad. But you also have to make adjustments to bandwidth to get it working properly, which may be why you think it is 'worst'.

I saw the same hype for the motorola Xoom when it was announced. How did that fare? I think it looks like a nice device & the android fanboys need something. They are salivating & foaming @ the mouth to see something other than the iPad. I think it's funny how people are making a big deal about the keyboard. Yup, we've had iPad cases that have keyboards, so whatever.

Don't insult me I understand regarding settings.

Despite its issues Android is far better than Photon even on a good day.

Best competition for the iPad will be the Kindle Fire. Amazon is the only one that has the resources right now to compete with Apples App Store and iTunes, and a $199 price point tablet that has Amazon's name attached will undercut the iPad market.

Yeah, it doesn't have the same features, but at $199 there's not the expectation that it will either.

It goes beyond that though, unless you used a Transformer then I wouldn't just speculate because its the best combination by far. Nothing on the Ipad comes close at all.

I'm however, waiting for the new Android tabs with digitisers like the Samsung Note so I can have a portable art pad.

Insult you? I didn't insult you. You'll notice a complete lack of adjectives addressing you.

Not that Flash matters anymore, anyway. It's dead and Adobe has moved to HTML 5.

I apologise then I assumed you were being smart in your reply.

Long live HTML5 too, and consign Flash to the bin already.

This tablet looks like it may be an actual threat to the ipad, and to be honest I am thinking this tablet might even be better.

Thoughts?

I bet you the Asus tablet WILL NOT have 12-18 hours of battery (hence the Quad-Core sucker, android, and the graphics card)

This is with it docked and i believe they stuck a huge battery into the base of that keyboard. I can believe it can easily reach 12 hours. Probably not 18, but 12 is easily achievable between the battery in the talet portion and the additional battery in the keyboard.

I'm certainly interested especially w.r.t. ipad 2 and how the quad-core performs. I will read some reviews before forking out some cash as I wasn't all that impressed w/ galaxy 10.1 w/ its laggy animations being the biggest gripe.

The issue with Android is you WILL have to get dirty and make sure you're optimised. With the Transformer I got 6-7 hours really instead of 8 that is with everything optimised, having to download widgets to turn off wifi if standy etc. It was more hassle than it was worth since I leave the machine off and by the next morning half the battery was gone.

Hang on. I'm going to use your line.

"Unless you used a Transformer then I wouldn't just speculate because it's the best combination so far."

So I'm guessing you used it?

Have you used it for an extended amount of time? If not, you haveno idea if its the best combination or just another Android tablet.

I owned a Transformer for 6 months and an Ipad since release, a Samsung Tab 10.1 too. So go figure if you don't think I have a wide spectrum to judge opinions on.

I have the Original Transformer 101 which I sold the Prime is exactly the same configuration except more powerful in processing but the keyboard is still the same, in fact worse since its remove a usb port.

Yes but the format is the same, like an Ipad 1 and 2. We're discussing the keyboard and dock combination not reviewing the new hardware.

I own and am typing on a OG iPad. I also own but am ebaying (but having second thoughts) the transformer with the dock. Since everyone is being pretty cool considering android vs iOS can get heated I thought I'd voice as my first post my issues. I have owned many android tablets including the Dell Streak 7, the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Asus.

The Screen is the same IPS screen as the iPad 2 and is nice. It has 2 speakers but weak on sound compared to the iPad. The camera quality is nice. The dual core Tegra 2 is nice for detailed gameplay and movies. Plus the typing with the dock is very nice like a netbook. Asus has had 3 firmware updates and promises ICS on this as well. Battery life is 8 hours and more with the dock. A file system and being able to customize it as much as I want is fun in addition microsd slots and 2 USB ports. Sounds great right?

My problems.

You can have the most thought out best looking well created piece of hardware out there, but without a quality OS or apps to run on it, the it's boring. Now there is the Kal El release when there is barely anything for tablets or Tegra 2 in Androids App store? I can get Hbogo to work on my android phone but not on my tablet? Honeycomb does lag and fc at times, so I rooted and found me a custom rom. Cool enough. Runs faster, but still glitchy and still a lack of quality apps on a sweet piece of hardware.

So I am back showing love to my iPad. Everything works as far as apps go and I like that. Hate the RAM so I think iPad 2 but yeah if I pay that much I want at least a camera that works and a micro sd slot. I listed my Transformer and it is going for 400.00 right now. But then I think I should wait for ICS and possibly more apps since I like the TF. I just think I'm going to be disappointed with the iPad 2 and subpar camera. I want the most bang for my buck.

Confusion reigns for me.
