I have used the keyboard dock combo. Types fine actually very well. Love that it charges the pad for an additional 5 hours. Nice rubber pads on the bottom keep it secure and scratch safe.

What is Apple made something like this.

Just like a normal iPad, but plug the screen into the keyboard and it reboots into OSX, pull the screen off and it flips back into an iPad again.

no thanks. i am actually pretty happy with ios. i figure you can just get an air if you want osx.

and, i definitely don't want to be plugging the keyboard into a tablet. as much as i like how asus has carved out a unique niche, i have to say i can't imagine dropping 150 dollars for a keyboard that will force me to turn my tablet into a laptop.

the cool thing (in my opinion) about the current system is that i can pair the keyboard with anything: my mbp, my ipod, and my ipad. sometimes, when i am translating, i have the source text on my ipad and i pair the keyboard with my ipod for the translation. it is quite convenient in class too, if you are a touch typist, because you can leave your ipod/ipad in the bag and just have the keyboard on your desk or lap.

in other words, i like the flexibility i have now.

To be fair I never used the keyboard as much as I originally imagined.

However, its also the ports. The lovely ports.

Yeah I was thinking the same this. I remember one manufacturer did this but it was Linus when it was a tablet & windows when it was docked. Neat concept but I don't think it went anywhere.

I like using the iPad as an in-between device. I think it's just fine for 90% of the stuff I do on my laptop. I just ordered the zagg folio for the iPad 2. Look forward too that when I want to type long form. I'm pretty good with my thumbs on this virtual keyboard though.

I tried out a colleague's zagg the other day. it is lightweight and pretty nice. personally, i am a fan of the apple keyboard + incase origami, but it's probably just personal preference. i am ok with the virtual keyboard, but not for long periods, and i really enjoy the ipad with the keyboard.

The Zagg really doesn't compete at all really, you can't use it on your lap, the keys are smaller and is in a non adjustable angles.

I do wish Apple would do a version similar though.

Sure you can use it on your lap. The keys are similar size to that of the Apple BT Wireless keyboard, which I also have. But you are right, you can't adjust the angle.

Really you can stop putting down iDevices and their accessories now. It's just annoying. I mean you have an excuse for everything. Hey I agree the Transformer Optimus Prime Tablet looks great with the keyboard dock and all. I'm humble enough to admit that and not have to knock down every aspect of it, as you have.

BTW, got my Kindle Fire today. Absolutely love it. Yes an Android device, and I love it.

firstly I think ios is the best tablet format.

I sold my ipad2 to get a transformer to then sell for an ipad2 again.

Im defending the transformer because of some of the incorrect and just misinformed statement some people have made. Sure its a Apple forum but it doesn't excuse for the people to make assumptions that have no grain of truth behind them. I'm sorry if I'm not praising Apple enough I try and add that to my todo list.

Wasn't aware that contributing to the board required joining a cult. Though it does appear from time to time that others believe it does. :)

I don't think you read what he was suggesting. You would have an OSX Air and when you detached the screen you would have an iPad.

i understood. i don't want osx on my ipad. not only would osx take up several gigabytes of space (7?) i don't need it. without the sandy bridge processor, what's the point? ios is great as it is.

...the Asus doesn't have a real keyboard either. Most tablets don't. How is this relevant?

Precisely. Also, bluetooth keyboards.

My prediction is somewhere around... some might buy it, some might not. iPad will probably still be the leader.

new transformer, old os. until ice cream sandwich, i doubt we see any big jumps. asus has been steadily nibbling away at apple's market share, but i don't think it will be any match for an ipad 3 with retina display in early spring. any weak sales ought to be blamed on android, and the current system of updating devices, in my opinion.

i'm android curious, but won't be spending any money on one until i feel a lot better about the os.

what is this nonsense about it having a keyboard? get a bluetooth keyboard for half the price and the ipad has one too.

Prime running ICS. I have to admit, it looks much more advanced than iPad 2. The moment ForeFlight is available for Android, I would gladly give up my iPad 2 for this.

Sure. It is more advanced, because it is a product that doesn't exist yet! Last I heard, the Transformer is shipping with Honeycomb and it is merely upgradable, with no date for ICS. If past precedent is any predictor, we may not see it until spring. By then, we will have an iPad 3 and the market will look completely different.

That's the problem with Android. When will it be released, who is going to get it, and when will they receive it?

Specs don't mean anything for these Android tablets, imo. They all suck in performance.

So the Asus Transformer Prime finally popped up for sale. The specs are solid:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&camp=201-273-3-20-01&creativeASIN=B0871XGQLI

I use my iPad to take notes, but the lack of a real keyboard can be annoying at times. Anyone else thinking about picking one of these up?

Specs are secondary to software, which in turn creates the User Experience.

How good is the software? How well does it run? Quality?

The game isn't really about specs anymore.

Shocking...

Another "Newbie" Dump/Run Post. Nothing more than troll bait. Same as on the iPhone forum.

This used to be a good Mac site for info, and solid feedback. Now it's just a "Mine is bigger than yours" site...
