Sounds that way to me. 1 per phone #.

It won't be one per household right? I wouldn't want to try to preorder iPhones for my family on the 15th and then get hit with a "sorry you can only order one per household. Please wait until supplies are as not in demand"

That may cause some fights in the House :p

I have a Q: when I get the iPhone 4 and activate it via iTunes, etc. will my 3GS's SIM be canceled, or not work anymore?

If it has the same number as your new sim, then yes, the old sim will be deactivated.

Here's a question: after 18 years im finally allowed to get a phone, so i'm getting the iPhone 4. My question is - when preordering/reserving the iphone 4 im going to be adding a line to our family plan so how is it going to work? Do i need to open a line in advance beforehand or will Apple set it up for me, if they do this do i get to pick the area code i want/a list of numbers to choose from? Or what would be the best method for me to go about this? I know that since im a new customer i get the discounted price.

You preorder on Apple and they will give you some info to fill in, such as the account holder's SSN and some other stuff. You'll go in the store on launch day and they'll set you up with a new phone and numbers to choose from. Account holder must be present to sign the contract, doesn't matter who you are, they have to be there. Either way, AT&T or Apple, you have to go in store to add the line since it is a new contract.

If you are an existing customer, it is 1 iPhone per line.

I'm still kind of lost. Right now I do not have an iPhone but I do have AT&T with an upgrade date of 12/27/2010. In the keynote Jobs said "[AT&T's] offer is going to be if your contract expires anytime during 2010 you are immediately eligible for a new iPhone 4 at the same 199, 299 prices if you top up your contract to 2 years" So that would mean I'm eligible right? It says nothing about owning and iPhone right now, only that if you have an upgrade date in 2010 then you can upgrade early at the cheaper price. Well on the AT&T website it still says I'm not eligible for an iPhone upgrade:confused:.

i got a question i am ordering online to be delivered to my house. once i activate my new iphone via itunes my plan will stay exactly the same it wont change to the new plans they offer. because im one of those guys who are being grandfathered so it will still work if i do it on itunes?

and if i do indeed want to change my plan how would i do that.

Stop crying. Stop worrying. You're fine. AT&T CSRs and CERTAINLY the retail store people dunno wtf is going on because reading their company's own press releases is too hard.

Why is this so difficult for people to understand? There was a chart with 6 entries, and the OP wrote a nice flowchart for people who are too dumb to read/understand the chart. You're either paying 199/299 or 399/499 unless you decide to pay 599/699.

I may have missed this somewhere in the thread, but my wife's phone is eligible for the full subsidy, and mine is not because we are on a family plan. Both of our numbers are outside the state we currently live in. Can I use her eligibility to get a fully subsidized plan for my current line (not the primary line), update my line to a new local number and still keep the current data plan I have been on? I figured if I can do this, I can sell my 3GS and apply the money toward the purchase of a second phone for my wife. Could someone please tell me if I can do this? thanks!

Is this doable?

I have a Family plan with 2 lines my voice package is 59.99, my upgrade(iPhone) is 2/20/2011, but each of the other 2 lines are upgrade eligible in 11/2010. Can i use one of the other lines to get iPhone 4 and then get it switched to my non-eligible iPhone line?

Yes, see the upgrade guide.

The number change is completely unrelated. Just call AT&T and tell them you've moved and need a new #.

Once again, addressed in the upgrade guide. See "Upgrade Swap".

people who sold their iPhones but are eligible for upgrades in 2010? we can still get the 199/299 pricing?

Hope so for your sake. Who knows what AT&T will do between now and the 15th.

Dial *639# and compare the resulting message in the upgrade guide.

If I buy the iPhone 4 through at&t.com...

do I still need to enter the account holders SS number? or can I just go on and purchase it?..

What exactly does "As a valued AT&T customer, this line qualifies for discounted equipment pricing when you sign a new 2-year commitment." mean?

Do I qualify for the $199/$299 pricing or only a partial discount? I'm confused as some of my friends received slightly different worded texts such as:

"As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

This is detailed in the upgrade guide.

This question keeps getting multiple answers!
Can I pay with debit? I do not have a credit card.

All the questions I've seen for upgrade swaps only address people on the same account. If I want to upgrade swap a 3 gs with a 4 with someone on a different account, does the Iphone 4 first need to be activated on the account that's eligible for the upgrade. I'm just trying to avoid having to buy a new sim and micro sim if we don't have to, but I don't want the other person to be billed $400.00 for not activating.

I paid w/ a debit card.

Exactly.

I think there's a misconception. As long as your debit card can also be ran as credit, you should be fine. It doesn't absolutely require a credit card. I own no credit cards (and never will) and have never had a problem with it being ran as credit.

Yes the first message is from the AT&T website and the second is from the text they sent me. Thanks for the clarification.

I have a quick question. Sorry if this has been answered already. My wife & I are current at&t customers on a family plan together. I'm the primary account holder, and both our lines are upgrade eligible. Will I be able to preorder 2 iPhone 4's, 1 for each line, thru apples website? or would it be best to do it thru at&t's website? I plan on having them shipped to my house.
This will be the first time I've preordered so I'm not familiar with how it works.
Thanks in advance ...

about buying iPhone 4 through att.com.

do I have to use the same card that pays bills to get the iPhone 4 through att.com or can I use a whole new card? and can it be debit?
