I'm sitting outside on my deck using my glossy display in direct sunlight -- something I could never do with my matte display on my old laptop. I'm glad I made the switch to glossy.

If you've got it at the wrong angle it's like looking in a mirror, but shift it just a degree one direction or the other and it's completely usable.

Well this is the best I can do right now. I do have lights on around me and there isn't any glare problems at all. These photos don't do justice for the true beauty of the screen. (Lame iPhone camera)

Tried to have one with font and one without.

Looking at the menu bar on the top it seems perfectly readable :)

Sarcastic or not, here's the image.

It's 1680x1050 so it fits the hi-res screens on the 15" perfectly.

Sure that's the high res screen? Looks 1440x900 to me.

C64,

Thanks for the link. I'm looking forward to his full review. I'm used to a an older 17" iMac 2006 and a 13" 2008 Macbook so I hope the font won't be an issue.

Dunno about anyone else but I think the hi-res glossy has a nice semi security feature built in: Other people to the side of you will have trouble seeing the contents of your screen :)

Sure it's not a proper security screen filter but at least you'll be able to tell if they are trying look at your :apple:. Of course they'll all be sat next the person with the matte hi-res :)

I'm not a photographer but these are quickies.

Room setting: 10x10 home office, 2 60 watt torchiere lamps (ceiling pointed) behind me right and left corners, one 40 watt overhead desk lamp about a foot higher than the external monitor, two large picture windows with shades open 3 feet to the right (my right) of the laptop, both blinds open...but it is overcast outside today. Typical home office really, nothing special.

The screen on the laptop is still SO bright (this is 2 clicks down from max) that it dwarfs the light from other sources. I can see some glare if I look real close and/or OCD about it, but otherwise, nothing.

I used the same image on the external monitor above it just for comparison. The external monitor is a 22" Samsung running 1680x1050, matte finish. You can see some yellowish tint...this monitor has been calibrated but thats about the best it can do. More than fine for how I use it (email/IM/Skype and other secondary monitor usage).

Is the HIGH res darker than the SD, because "2 clicks down from max" is looking dark and not bright in the picture. And how is the Screens Contrast?
Can you take a picture with a more bright bakgrund, like grass or water. :) Also 100% brigtness please :)

cheers

If it were turned up any brighter it would hurt my eyes. As it is, the screen outshines the ambient light in the room. Like I said, I'm no photographer so the pics aren't going to tell the whole story. Monitor preferences is one situation where a picture is NOT worth 1,000 words. You have to judge for yourself more often than not.

Here's one with the grass Apple native wallpaper shot....

ReallyBigFeet, is the safari page in the first pic scaled up? Cause if it's not,I'd be quite impressed that I can read it.

And,if it's no hassle, could you please take a close-up pic with a program like GarageBand opened,so we can see the menus and that? Cheers.

Thank You. :) I will definetly go for the HIGH-res Glossy. But of course I will check it out on an Apple store :) And please post the Alien VS Predator Wallpaper. It looked cool

I was amazed that no one but you did notice this.

I've reported those posts.

What's wrong with that picture? There's no doubt that auschwitz and other camps like it were imoral and wrong, but i don't understand why this thread should be locked beacuse of a picture. It's not like it glorifies what happend, it just shows what happend and how the camps looked.

Lighten up Francis.

It's a picture of a historical site of interest and reverence to many. How is this offensive?

Yes, it was scaled up by one zoom factor I think. As I've posted elsewhere, my vision is crap....I wear bifocals and I'm in my mid 40's. :(

Garageband isn't my thing, so I don't know what I'm doing in there. But I hope this helps.

Nice screen with bright green color by the looks of it, but it's a very dark room so for me that is not a real working solution.

I found that one and several others like it (Alien vs Predator playing pool, etc.) at http://wallbase.net/

Just do a search on Predator or anything else you'd like. While most are SFW, they do have some NSFW ones so use at your own risk. But some really good hi-res wallpapers to be found there.

Not really...I'm just not using a flash and giving you an ambient light shot. You can check out the image EXIF properties and see my exposure settings. Typical incandescent lighting sources, not overly bright and not too dark. To my naked eye, the MBP case is bright silver, not orange-ish like in the pics. YMMV of course. I can easily read a book in this lighting....I do often (for research, etc.).

But I thought I'd do this one just for you....I moved the laptop to our kitchen island countertop. There are 6 tube fluorescent bulbs directly over the laptop for this shot. That is far too bright of a working environment for me but it should be plenty bright enough for you.

How is my picture offensive? It has nothing that says, "Oh yay! Nazis!!" It's just a picture of the camp and its quite artistic if I do say so myself.
