I used to own that satin case. The amount of fingerprints that thing picks up is unmatched. I had to clean it every few hours. I wouldn't recommend it.

Why did you have to clean every few hours?? Were you constantly touching it every few hours? The only time you'd touch the case is if you are transporting it out of your laptop bag onto a table. Since my machine stays at home most of the time on my coffee table, finger prints aren't an issue for me.

Hey man, great job! I really liked the pictures. I ordered mine April 14th, it should be here between the 19th-22nd.

My question to you is: did you notice that holding the glossy mbp at a certain angle the screen would flip down and close?

I actually went to the Apple store to check it out. The glass is so heavy or the hinge is weaker on the glossy ones. They just shut close when for example lying on bed and holding the laptop at less that 90º.

Can you tell me if your antiglare WITH the case does that? Or if it holds it still.

Thanks

Im really likeing the silver bezel after your great pictures. Im really thinking that I will get the anti-glare when I upgrade next year. Have you watched a movie on it yet? How does the screen look?

hi guys- i just wanted to post a tip. The high resolution 15 inch MBP with antiglare are in stores now... I called yesterday and they didnt have them but today they have the antiglare hi res.

I checked in all of the NYC stores

to the OP-love the pics. thanks for taking so many of the antiglare. i think the 15 inch MBP look much better than the 17 inch MBP with antiglare. it just feels more natural and fitting my style. I have the iMac and love the look with the black and white but would've preferred if they were all white like the old iMacs. i guess im not the big fan of the black bezel... altho it would fit my new ipad, imacs.

So are the viewing angles better on the hi-res? Meaning is it something other than a TN panel?

Not a fan of the aluminum bezel. The black makes sense because it essentially makes the screen stick out more because you're not "distracted" by the bezel.

Do you know if they had the high-res glossy version?

IIRC TN goes to yellow at extreme angles, which is seen in the 8th and last pictures in the above posts; I would think that its a TN panel :( As far as TN goes, there are some nicer displays out there, but they're still not-accurate-enough.

Any experience with the see-through case or with Incase's version? I want a case but i a) don't want it to distract from the natural looks of the MBP and b) don't want the case to look trashed... scratches, fingerprints, etc. Any suggestions?!

I've seen the 17" anti-glare screen too. I can also read the text on it.

If you can read the text on the 17" anti-glare, which is 1920 x 1200 resolution, then the text on the 15" high resolution, which is 1680 x 1050 resolution, will appear bigger. So yes, go for it.

Just wondering how you know the text on the 15 in high res will appear bigger then the 17 in? I'm interested in the 15 in high res as I do like that resolution but I've never seen in on a 15 inch screen before. I actually have that resolution on an older 17 inch MBP. I took a look at a new 17 inch today and the text seemed a little small to me. Certainly readable. But a little more difficult I guess.
if the 15 high res looks a little bigger I'd think I'd be ok but they didn't have one on display and Im a little nervous about trying it sight unseen.

Is the a rule of thumb when comparing the resolution vs the screen size?

Thanks

so it has a white bezel because of the anti glare? or is it because of the hi-res?

Is this a guess or have you been told by them? Cheers.

I just bought the 15 inch high res- anti glare.... LOVE IT!!!

my god the thing is so amazing. the colors are crisp and I love the extra pixels- it blows out my 2006 MBP matte 15 inch.

What really sold me on the anti glare was I was in the apple store playing with the glossy MBPs. it's not very sunny right now in NYC- kinda overcast but I was in the Upper West side mac store which has the natural sky lights up in hte ceilings and I could see the reflections. it wasn't overwhelming but I prefer to use my MBP in my apartment which has a lot of direct sunlight.

I would suggest everyone to go to a store and play with the matte and glossy. Pictures don't do any of the models justice. You have to see how it will suit you.

I have a hunch that the hi-res glossy will be in on monday. it seems like they're trickling in every day- first the standard res models then the anti glare--> eventually the glossy hi res. the sales people are super nice. they tolerated my constant question peppering. hehe.

the silver bezel is only for anti glare models.

Oh, I misspoke a little. If we are comparing same screen size to same screen size, then the higher resolution screen will have smaller and the lower resolution screen will be bigger.

In this case, the comparison is a 1680 x 1050 15.4" screen vs. 1920 x 1200 17" screen. Now that I think about it, I believe the text sizes are almost identical.

Thank you for the pictures. Is it possible to post some pictures containing text on the screen, so we can see if the text is readable?

Here is a shot of today's Yahoo page.

This one is probably the most useful. I have sample of 10, 12, 14, and 16 point in Word. Notice how I can easily have two Word windows open at same time. The Zoom is set to 125%.

I know what you're talking about. I had the 15" MBP (Late 2008) glossy model. The screen (even without a Speck Case attached) would close by itself if the laptop is inverted. I'm happy to say that with the April 2010 MBP, and even with the Speck Case attached to the lid, it is much sturdier. If you keep the screen at about 110 Deg, grab the bass of the laptop and hold it in the air, rotate the base toward you, I notice that the lid will only start closing on itself at about 80 deg of rotation. This to me is acceptable, because even if you are laying in bed or again a wall, there is no way you would be rotating the base greater than 80 deg. At 45 deg rotation toward you, there is no movement in the lid (with Speck case attached). Apple definitely improved the hinge, similar to how the 13" model has a tight hinge.

Right, thanks for the response. I noticed that all the glossy 15" at the store would close when held up at a certain degree. I believe it's the glass on the top of the screen that make it heavier.

Thanks, I hope you enjoy your new toy. I'll enjoy mine next week.

Thanks again for posting your pictures. From what I can gather, text is still very readable at 1680 x 1050. Since I'm used to 1280 x 800 I was a little bit hesitant at how text would look on such a high-res screen, but I think I will be very happy if I would choose to go with the high-res screen.

Thanks for all the great pics.

You mentioned that the mbp you bought from the apple store came with 5gb of ram. Is that correct, or did you mean 4?

I was set on the std 15" Gloss, I'm not a big fan of high res screens they hurt my eyes.

But, after seeing you're photos I'm seriously reconsidering, the Matte Hi Res looks awesome!

Tough decision, no where is Sydney has HiRes on display yet.

More Waiting!!

thank you SO MUCH for these updates. this has made me a happy camper considering that i returned my standard resolution one yesterday to order a high-res glossy.

This is so frustrating.. I never thought twice about going for the glossy screen. I like my glossy black MacBook screen, but after seeing these pictures and reading about basically everyone buying the anti-glare. I like the esthetics of the black bezel, but this has something to it as well...

Doubt doubt doubt :(

These pictures have converted me!

I used to be a big fan of glossy but these pictures look great! I actually prefer the silver bezel now. It blends better with the bottom half and looks lighter and more sleek.

Who knows? Maybe the lack of glass even makes the antiglare model a bit lighter in weight?
