Not bad! :D

Have you purchased many iPhone apps? It's worth sticking with the platform if you've invested in it.

That makes me think even more that you should wait. ;)

About $50 - not that much... To be frank, I don't see myself dropping the iPhone, I will definitely get the next one. The thing is, I have a plan available for an upgrade (with a free phone), and I don't know how long it will take for the new iPhone to come here to SA (usually it's a 3 month wait after it's released worldwide). And let's not pretend we're normal people who can have a free gadget available for pickup AND exercise patience for the next one to come out so we can compare on merit. ;)

I really like the Desire. I would seriously consider it if at&t offered it or any other quality Android device.

The Desire has only one weakness: it doesn't integrate as well with my Mac.

With the stuff announced so far for iPhone 4G, Froyo has it licked. However I can't shake the feeling that Steve-O has a few more tricks up his sleevefor the WWDC. ;)

I'd wait, two weeks isn't going to kill you. Of course that's easier said then done.

I bought a Nexus One because I didn't want to wait :D

Thinking of moving to HTC

Hello

I have had a 3G for about 2 years. More or less happy with it and it was certainly the best on the market at the time.

With the 4G just about to be announced I have started thinking about what to get next. I do like the HTC Desire (I am in the UK) and the EVO 4G looks great and am seriously thinking of plumping for that one next.

One factor is that the total cost over 18 months is about half of an iPhone.

I have a MacBook Pro and would miss the iTunes integration but other than that I mostly use Google for mail and calendar.

I am aware that the screen resolution may be better on the 4G but apart from that why not go for the HTC?

If I went for HTC I would have half the cost of an iPad as a compromise.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Some of the reviews have been lackluster about the EVO's actual performance abilities and battery life. It's possible that a software update will make it awesome, but if I were you I'd wait until more people bought them and reviewed them rather than making a choice on the few bloggers that have one at the moment.

Honestly, I wouldn't suggest buying ANY new smartphone within the first few weeks. See what people say and what software updates come out quickly to fix their biggest complaints.

Then decide.

Evo doesn't exist in the UK, it was made for one phone network in the states only.

If your thinking of HTC, wait till next Monday, then maybe wait till the first WP7 phones come out some time in September or, maybe then wait till winter when i'm sure there'll be another new android phone... or maybe wait till next summer...

Yeah, :S HTC

HTC Desire is out for several months now and almost all the reviews are very positive. I'd take Desire over iPhone 4G. Let's all hope a GSM EVO variant will be released some time down the road. The kickstand and large screen is irresistable.:D

Hi

I am always looking for the next phone. I buy and sell phones on eBay all the time. I guess I buy around 10 per year, but I always end up back using an iPhone.

Android is a great OS, but its changing very quickly and the updates to the firmware are just not being released in the way that Apple do. I bought an HTC Magic in May last year and its running 1.6, however the current Android OS is 2.2 and it does not look as if my handset is going to get an update. This is not good news when you consider that the handset is just over a year old and we all seam to be heading to 24 month contracts.

Blackberry have some great features but regardless if its a Bold 9700 or a Storm 2 the os just feels old.

I use my phone as an MP3 player, for calendar appointments, for email, to send text messages, to make notes, play games and to make calls. Yes there are other phones that can do all this, and some of them do somethings better but in my view iPhone is the best all rounder.

I keep thinking there is something better but each time I buy the next great phone I end up back with my iPhone.

Alex

Useful thoughts, thanks

I use my phone for reading emails, sending the odd one or two and my calendar which is an app which syncs with Google Calendar.

Forgetting everything else the HTC Desire will do this and save me around UKP300 over 18 months. As I said, nearly an iPad.

I agree with the comments that there might always be something better out there. I still miss how my Blackberry Pearl worked but when I played with a newer BB recently it was very disappointing in comparison to the iPhone.

I will see what happens on Monday and take it from there.

To be honest though, so far no one has come up with a killer iPhone argument!

The other issue is that my iPhone is now off contract and costing UKP20 per month for far more minutes and texts than I could ever use so there is no real financial imperative to upgrade.

android is bare bones right now. apps aren't polished like the iphone. putting music on your phone requires drag and dropping the individual files. the battery life is worse than the iphone because there's so much stuff running in the background. you could turn off all of the features which then makes it pointless to have a phone like that.

Wish I could go back to Iphone...

After posting a while ago about all the reasons I switched to android...
After using it for 4 months... there are so many things wrong with it, so many things that just haven't been thought through, so many issues with hardware (yes... voice guided GPS is great but not when the battery runs out after an hour on a full charge...)
I wish I could have my Iphone back! there I said it...

Mind expanding on that a bit more? I'm trying to decide whether or not to ditch my 3GS for a Desire HD at the moment.

Though I think Android might be better for me, because I'm a techie who likes mucking around with firmwares and such, and Andriod hardware looks so much better than the iPhone's in terms of specs, posts like these hold me off a bit.

But I mean, the massive screen, 1GHz processor, 768MB RAM, and ability to make phone calls without a case really swade me back to the HTC...
