I do...I take my iPhone off the charger at 5 AM and put it back on at 10 PM. Everything's on and it is used constantly all day and I always have >20% before I put it on the charger.

EDIT: Want to note it's a 3G. Have no idea on the 3GS battery.

Hmm I don't believe this. As I barely make it the whole day from 6:30am till 10:00pm. And I don't use my phone much except for work emails and phone calls during the day, and very little phone calls. I have barely 20% left.

Agree, they must not use the phone that much, with everything off i would get 8 hours of light use. 6 hours with heavy use and 4G on

Your right. It's better than the iphone.

I just came back from Sprint Store and I have to say I loved the screen and even the build quality of the EVO. Wish they had a similar 4.3" screen Android phone on AT&T 3G. I am currently using Sony Ericsson X10 which has 4.0" screen and it felt tiny after spending few minutes with EVO:D.

I am counting on higher screen resolution on iPhone 4 to keep me very happy. Else, I will get back to my X10.

Can't disclose my source. You'll have to trust me on this one. But if you happen to mention Froyo to an Advanced Tech Support Guru at Sprint, if he's nice, he just may confirm it for you.

I just had my EVO rooted and Overclocked! Woot!!!

My friend runs a sprint retail store and he said he was told by sprint froyo won't be out for the evo until dec.

I actually got the info from multiple sources.

We are talking about sprint here, the company that's notorious for screwing over customers with os updates. You only need to go back to the hero and moment for proof. They passed on two major os releases in 1.6 and 2.0 and then took forever to update to 2.1. You honestly think sprint is going to release froyo only a month after the eve's release? Would be awesome but that's dreaming.

Wow. Turn off push email, 3rd party apps and location services? You basically have a paper weight that text messages at that point. None of my friends with iPhones get very good battery life really. My iPad does though.

Yea, a little crazy that the EVO is being attacked so hard. Poor battery is something that goes hand in hand with almost every smart phone.

When I was running 3.1 I was getting pretty good battery, but that's mostly due to SBSettings. I would constantly switch on/off my bluetooth, wifi, 3G whenever I was not using it. Doing that I was able to get enough to get through the day. Nothing impressive though. This is why I have no problem doing the same on an EVO. Still waiting for mine to ship though. :(

Well, that doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Are you getting the iP4? I'm excited about it. Hope it's great.

Nah. Not only do I despise AT&T but the only thing I wanted from the iPhone was the app store. I now have that with my iPad :) My Evo does everything I need, no reason for another phone.

I can assure you I'm not lying. Probably around 30-45 minutes of calls, 1-2 hours of web surfing on 3G, maybe 30-40 text messages, some light app usage (banking, Godfinger, Facebook) and brightness is at 100%. I don't know if I have a freak phone but I make it through the day with ease with everything turned on.

Take a screenshot to prove it like I have done :)

Here is one from today. 6-7 calls, tons of texts, 30 mins of web browsing and some live TV. This is with the 1800mah extended battery. Nearly 21 hours and 49% battery left. Not bad eh?

I went to do it and realized my phone barely left my pocket today besides web surfing so it's not a normal day for me. However, I can assure you that it generally goes through the same routine and lasts all day for me.

I should try and disable things the way you do with your EVO and see how long I can get out of it.

mmmk. Will be waiting for visual proof of what you claim since alot of my friends own iPhones and I have never, ever seen or heard of one getting that kind of life with your claimed usage.

FWIW, my 3GS used to get about 30% better battery life than my current Nexus One. That's what everything turned on on the 3GS and not many widgets on the N1. I used to get about 12 hours of standby + 6 hours usage on it no problem.

I'd try today but the girlfriend is taking the phone. She uses it more than me during the day so it should work out anyways.

I have no interest in lying, I was just telling you that my phone seems to work for me. Hopefully I can keep it up with the new iPhone 4, but apparently if I'm getting way better life than everyone else already my hopes are too high!

Speaking of batteries, threads are starting to show up on the Apple support forums about iPhone batteries giving less and less time. E.g. this one.

Could be the end of natural battery life. Could be more drain from apps or OS updates. Or both.

Everyone was pretty cavalier a few years ago, saying that it wouldn't matter to them if they had to send their phone off to get the battery replaced (an action that is usually cheaper and takes just seconds on other phones).

Return my son's Evo

This is my third attempt at testing the waters and finding a replacement for my $300+ ATT iPhone bill. After almost two weeks with my son's Evo, I am returning it and will add yet another line to my ATT (now-business) account.

Why?

1. Android requires too much of my attention. Overwhelmed with features and odd gestures to get stuff done. Yes Iphone 4OS has its own foibles, but I already know most of the IPhone. I don't want go-go-gadget phones.
2. Replacing my apps was going to add another $50-100, easy.
3. Touch interface is not as springy and responsive. Nasty feeling too. Fingers stick to screen as you scroll around.
4. HUGE phone in my pocket or anywhere, I was embarrassed to use it and I have been lugging the Iphone around for years.
5. Whether real or imagined I am not as happy with their app store. Difficult to setup, hard to buy, feels like an Open Source hack job. Apple has perfected how to get money from my wallet.
6. Sprint pricing is great but not that great, I was only saving about $70 a month.

So I am off the Evo experiment and back again to the fleece-me-forever AT&T. I am pissed i am locked into this situation another two years.

Break your contract. Yeah, you pay $350 or so up front but will you save more than that over the next 2 years with another carrier.

Have you considered a smaller android phone?

There's a reason why Apple will sell 1-2mil new iPhones this week while EVO will be lucky to ever 2 mil. EVER

I returned my EVO and decided to get an iPhone as well, but come on now, your complaints about the EVO are extreme. Its a great phone, not the right phone for me, but a great phone nonetheless. I mean:

1. The phone hardly requires too much attention. The notification bar is a thing of beauty and I will greatly regret not having it on my iPhone. Unless you're running stock android, Sense takes care of almost everything automatically.
2. Of course you're going to have to replace your apps, how is this surprising?
3. While I agree the iPhone is much smoother, your fingers sticking to the screen is your problem and not the phone's. Its called put down the Lays chips or wash your hands.
4. Yeah its big, really big. But in defense of the phone, you should have held it at the store before returning it because it was too big. You don't buy a TV without turning it on first, and you shouldn't assume a cellphone is the right size without picking up the model.
5. The app store looks better with Froyo, and Google Checkout works just fine (though I wish it would have charged me by the month and not by each individual purchase). Oh, and the fact that you can return something within 24 hours is the best thing to happen for apps since apps first were sold.
6. Only saving $70? I can count a few things I could do with an extra $240 a year.

I can't believe I'm defending a phone I didn't actually like, but my individual preferences doesn't take away from the fact that the EVO is a great phone...possibly the BEST geek phone.

I have both right now - and the EVO is winning. I feel like the iPhone is a little kiddie phone after using the EVO for two weeks. I have gotten used to the screen size and now everything else seems "tiny"! I don't really care that much for all of the progams on either platform. They are nice and Apple has done a better job of UI and app integration, but I really need a smartphone for communications and browsing - and the EVO on Sprint's 3G/4G network is doing a better job right now for me. The only thing I really miss is the better camera and the Flickr app on the iPhone.

Anyway, I would consider the iPhone 4 on Verizon, but I am tired of ATT's lack of quality phone service (for me). I get a new phone every year and Sprint's ETF is still only $200 (have not nuked my ATT line yet either), so I'll see where things are early next year.
