Yes I'm sure that is what Apple will do. After all they have one of the worst reps in the industry of doing clandestine undercover moves like this.

One has to keep their eye on these under handed no good corporate types, especially that one with the black mock turtle neck, as evil as they come, a true prince of darkness and dishonest with a capital D!

Yes sir you pinned the tail right on that there do key sure as my name is Huckleberry Finn that senario will surely happen and under the dark cover of night, but surely you will be watching them and waiting for this devious move and will surely alert the forum and the entire world when you catch them making their clandestine changes.

Ok.......

If you don't like the design go with another. I don't see what the problem is.

Yup keep up the hostility. That will really work great for Apple's reputation. This way Apple can go back to being a hostile little clique of users instead of broadening the user base.

Who is being hostile? With the antenna on the outside it is more sensitive. If you don't like that design you can go with another phone or use a free case they are going to provide you.

The audacity of some people to post commentary from either of these two sites and have the complete lack of insight and dare i say it intelligence , to a. consider it valid and truthful, and b. To post it and expect anyone here to believe it is beyond my imagination.
Thanks for this earth shattering ground breakin news, really man, you can't be serious

Keep up the good work bud we appreciate your paranoia and lack of faith enormously

The tone in which that Steve Jobs answered the question regarding post September 30, suggests there will be a more permanent fix for the iPhone antenna problem.

Come on, be realistic. Do you think they can ship bumper cases with the iPhone until the new iPhone comes out next year?

That's why cases are only offered through till september 30 when Apple will "revaluate"

Once again. September 30th is the end of the fiscal third quarter for Apple before they report earnings.

That's why Apple set September 30th as the temp deadline for free bumpers. They are evaluating how much this will cost them in terms of their profits before they report earnings and any potential future write downs.

There will be zero hardware fixes. The bean counters at Apple probably already made calculations it's far cheaper to issue free bumpers that cost Apple less than $2 than to do recalls.

And just milk this current iPhone 4 till next Summer 2011 and release another phone.

Any new antenna changes will have to go through the FCC for approvals.

Many other cell phone companies have had issues with their handsets. They NEVER recall or fix them. They just release a new model and move on.

I don't know what the big fuss about this is. Apple is offering free bumper/cases. If you aren't satisfied return the phone.

A simple non-conductive coating doesn't require an FCC reinspection, which is what they're doing right now. Back stabbing the early adopters by throwing away the bumpers ;)

A complete antenna overhaul, definitely, yes.

If the phone was aloe profile product yes they could do a silent fix. However the iPhone is probably the most high profile product of all phones in the entire world.

Apple is under such a microscope they can't pull this stunt. Maybe they silently "coated" a few refurbs as been rumored but those might have been testing units to see if they could do a "stealth" fix.

Obviously this didn't work since it was already leaked in the techie sites. So they have proceeded to issue free cases or bumpers.

Look at another example of another luxury product. There's a current class action lawsuit on BMW "run flat" tires. These tires have been known they punctur easily. They cost $500 a tire to replace and often times both need to be replaced.

What does BMW do? Thy just keep moving on to the next generation run flats. Now they are on their 3rd generation run flats even though those with 1st gen and some 2nd gen run flats are on a ticking time bomb (in terms of money to fix these tires".

Apples fix will be just to release the 5th gen iPhone.

I have already moved on. I have both tmobile and AT&T. Just purchased a Samsung Vibrant this weekend. I own multiple phones. I will still keep the iPhone 4 but it won't be my main phone. I will just slide my BB Bold 9700 over to my AT&T line and also use the Samsung Vibrant on my tmobile line.

Lots of phone options at my disposable. If u don't like the phone just return it.

I am still keeping my iPhone 4 but it will slide into my backup phone number 3 or 4 slot. I also own a nokia e71 as my fourth phone.

The reason Apple is offering free cases till September 30 does relate to the end of the fiscal quarter. But the main reason, is there will be a hardware fix coming soon. The free cases and bumper promotion is running till then so the iPhones keeps selling until then. If Steven admitted there would be a fix publicly, no one would be buying the current iphone 4s they have already ramped up in production in time for international launch. That would damage their current fiscal quarter.

That could be true. But iPhone 4 owners have a one year warranty. You can always change it to the fixed antenna model if that happens.

Look I think this antenna issue has become overblown.

I just got the Samsung Vibrant (aka Galaxy S) AT&T just released the Samsong Captivate today also. I can reproduce the "death grip" on my Samsung even more than my iPhone 4. There are YouTube videos on these "death grips" on not only the Samsung but also other phones.

But the media won't make an issue of these "death grips" on these iPhone competitors.

I am not going to return either my Samsung it iPhone 4. I use a case all the time so it's a non issue with me

You have a very vocal minority. I just wish the samsung fanboys would raise a media commotion the Apple fanboys do. No one cares when the Samsung Behold 2 holders get screwed when Samsung/Tmoolr promised them Android 2.0 update and they are stuck at Android 1.6.

I am just saying these problems exists on even the newest Android superphones like the Samsung but no one really cares. All they care is to bring down Apple since they are the suppose leader of these super smartphones.

One of the few showing some sense in this thread

There will be no hardware change until iphone 5!

So basically, if you're considering an iPhone 4 you should just buy it now so you can get a free case along with it? I was definitely under the impression that they were going to fix the problem after Sept 30th... but the financial calendar makes way more sense.

Companies don't admit their products are flawed, offer a free fix for the flaw, and then arbitrarily stop offering the free fix. Fundamentals...

And how exactly did they admit that there product was flawed. Steve clearly said that it is a problem that all smart phones experience, the sept 30th cutoff is for financial reasons only. I understand you are trying to justify waiting until the end of September to purchase, but honestly steve didn't give any inclination that they are planning to change anything.

Probably the giant slide that said "we're not perfect". That is the closest Apple has ever come to saying "we screwed up" which would be entirely out of character.

There is a problem with the design of the antennae. Come Sept 30th, they will either have it fixed, or include some type of case/band/bumper in the box. They are simply not in a position to do nothing. You can't offer a free fix to consumers, and then cease to offer the free fix after a specific date without solving the core problem.

What you said may be true... but are you sure you aren't justifying to yourself your early purchase by denying possible hardware revisions down the line and downplaying/counter arguing those who speak about the antenna issue?

Don't be so naive. And don't be so worried about your early purchase to the point of being defensive. IF they revise the hardware, you can always pull out your warranty card. Our whole family and a few of my best friends lined up for the 3GS on the day of release (for 5 hours). We all got 16gb (minus one person who got the 32). 8 of us had yellow screens while 1 had a "perceived as" nicer and whiter screen. I came to macrumors and the yellow screen issue blew up in the forums.

Guess what... all 9 of us (including the one with the "good screen") had to replace our phones for one reason or another within 6 months (battery, home button loose, popped out hold button etc). Not a single one of those warranty refurb phones had a yellow screen. Not ONE. The yellow screen may not have been an issue... but the internet made it so. And I'm pretty sure it was "stealth fixed" as the buzz disappeared over time. Alas, we all ended up with a perfect phone... albeit 6 months later.

Just be happy that Apple is so good about replacements within the warranty period. It may not always be like this in the future.
